| This give me five can be extremely important in certain situations, especially if we are really off topic. What you need to do is to simply say "give me five, give me five, we need to remember to follow our goal.", and most of us would immediately listen and respond by following the goal. This is important because other people might not be following the goal, which can affect us on the checklist. |

This give me 5 is one that we would typically do before we shut down our computers but we might do it right as we get out our computers. One of our school rules is that we either have delete all the photos on the desktop or put them in the desktop folder. Our class sometimes forgets about this rule so this is a good reminder to ensure that our class follows the rule. This give me 5 is important in our classroom because often times we forget to clear off the desktop of our images and others images. Sometimes our forgetfulness along with the other classes to causes teachers to have to send out emails about cleaning the desktop. This Give Me Five is important because if you are on a shared document and someone is messing it up you should do a Give Me Five to tell the person to stop. Or if your on Trello and someone is changing the back round you should have them stop.
This use of give-me-five is pretty much an announcement that you are doing a mini-lesson on how to do something. The purpose is to tell people that you are doing a mini-lesson on how to do something. You mostly do this use of give-me-five during passion time. Most mini lessons are also based on technology tricks on how to do something. Make sure you are positive that you are doing a mini lesson because if you say "Never mind." it could just disturb somebody's work that they listened to a give-me-five for nothing.
This give-me-five is so important because if it didn't get done, people wouldn't know if there was a mini lesson going on and they could miss out on key information. Mini lessons can include many things that people don't know and if they miss that out, they won't learn new information that could be important. If you want to announce information that will benefit others, like the login to a website or what browser to use, just do a give-me-five and say it. Before doing it, think: Is this important? Is this relevant? Do people need to know this? If the answer is no to any of those question, you probably shouldn't make that give-me-five. If you only need to say it to one person, you don't have to make a give-me-five, but go over and tell them. This give-me-five is important because it benefits others by giving them information they should probably know. If you do this give-me-five, you are most likely saving people time. Sometimes, people will talk through it, which is bad for them because they're missing something important. If this give-me-five wasn't done, people might end up doing something wrong, which wastes time. The "Give me Five that I chose was one that is very important for helping us reflect on what we're doing bad and good. For example, in my video I said that the floors were dirty so we should try doing better at that for the rest of the day. I like because we get to reflect at all times and not just at one point of the day. For this Give me Five, you must make sure everyone is listening because if we don't fix it, Mr. Solarz won't be happy and we might not get positives son the checklist.
This is important in our classroom because we are student led and student have to do this give me five. In this class we are reflecting at all times, and when we do this it is reflecting on how we did bad on something we cxan work on it and be better at it. So, when you're looking to do this, look carefully on what we did bad and how we can work on it. Make sure to be specific! The purpose of doing a give me five to the class back track is so that we can get things don! We want this because if we were of task all the time we wouldn't get any thing done. It is important because we can't get work done when were of task. So we need someone to get us back on task sometimes so we can get work done! This is very important.
So for the uses of give me fives, a lot of them are really important like mine. Mine is when someone is trying to do a give me five and nobody is able to hear that person or is just ignoring that person, that is when another person steps in and helps that person get the class's attention. So what that person does is: You say "Give-Me-Five Give-Me-Five, listen to this person!" Then the class SHOULD turn to the person who you named and listen to their announcement. If the class doesn't listen to the person announcement and go back to chit chatting, then we would probably lose a quarter magnet because we are not paying attention. Just in general, give me fives are really important because it lets you speak to the class when no one is listening and you get to say the things that you want to say to the class.
When this give me five wasn't done well or not at all, then the person who was trying to get something they wanted to say out would start to get frustrated because nobody would be listening to them and talking with their friends instead. We have to do a give-me-five when we are too loud, because otherwise we will continue to be crazy, hyper and way to loud. We need to get back on track so (e.g. is "give-me-five give-me-five we need to quiet down.") We also need to be more on task when something was really exciting. Like when Mr. Solarz won the soup competition we went crazy!!!! Which was cool because he won, but we were really loud. So we needed to change the volume level so we did a give-me-five to calm us down. We also need to do a give-me-five when we are off topic, because we all get excited about really anything so we need to make sure we are on task for the important parts. You want to do a give-me-five right when we start to get loud because if we do it too late we are still off topic. So you want to nip it in the bud, meaning take control before it gets out of control. This give-me-five is very important in our class because if we don't do these types of give-me-five-Fives we will continue being off task and not getting our work done. This would turn out horrible because we would then have a ton of homework and wouldn't know what to do because we weren't paying attention in class. So then we would have to spend more time in class asking how to do homework instead of doing what you are supposed to be doing. If the job was not done well and we did a weak give-me-five-Five. It wouldn't help because we wouldn't be listening, we would be off task. So neither one would help, really at all. When you are doing a give-me-five the goal is for you to get people to pay attention to what you have to say, and do whatever the give-me-five was about.
We sometimes do one because there are no more of one discussion we do for lit circles. I would say that when there are 3 of less left and when there are none. You do it if you are either filling one out or if you notice that they don't have many left. I do them when I notice that people did not do one or I made it have less. This is helpful because when we discuss what video we want to do we might not realize that we can not do the video. If it was not done well would still do the video and we might not realize for a long time and have to do the video over again. I think a tip for this give me five is if you see that there is not many left just don't be afraid to do it right away, and talk very loud. I hope that this works for whoever is going to try to do this type of give me five. I have one other tip that is when you do it there might be people doing videos so they will still be talking but just talk over them and don't screen.
The purpose for doing this give me five is so that we do not forget to do a very important responsibilities that will effect us in the future. We also need this give me five because we all have responsibilities in the class room and we all have to get them done. One more reason for this give me five is that we all need help remembering to do are responsibilities and we did not do this give me five they would not get completed. If we were not to do this give me five students would not be doing their responsibilities. Like if we forgot to move the passion time magnet during each period we would all think we still have one period to finish when it is really the dead line. Another way that problem that could go wrong if we did not do this give me five is that we would forget very important responsibilities such as moving your magnet in the morning or even not doing your job at all. One of the uses of Give Me Fives is to give the class a reminder. This reminder could be to remember to get your science-fair backboard approved, or to put the computers in the cart a certain way. The main reason we use this type of Give Me Five is because reminders are one of the things student-led classrooms rely on. Instead of everyone asking everyone around them, asking the teacher or doing it wrong this Give Me Five allows the student who knows what to do remind everyone how to do it correctly or what to do. Also if you were to do this Give Me Five I don't suggest saying "Because a lot of people are doing it wrong." Even if it is true it could make someone a little upset because they were the last person you corrected. I also advise not saying that at the end of your Give Me Five for two other reasons. One, because it would make the Give Me Five longer and sometimes kids are working really well and then have to give you their full attention for however long your Give Me Five is; that can eventually get annoying. And two, it could come off a little bossy like,"I'm perfect and everyone else made this mistake." This Give Me Five is important because without it people might forget common things or just not do things correctly, or would do them not as nice. It is also important because we need it to be student-led. We can't be student-led if the teacher is telling us everything and doing it too.
The purpose of this Give-me-five is too transition from activity to another so that we benefit from it and so that the teacher of the special benefits from it too. So say that we have gym at 1:00, when it is about 12:55 we would say Give-me-five Give-me-five it's time too clean up for gym. Some good things that you need to know about this type of give-me-five, is that you should probably start cleaning up at 12:57, and when we have computers start it at 12:55. If they get silent and do want you ask that's great, but if they don't have your attention give me five twice, and if they still don't have it and it's a couple of kids than you would say give five give give five give JJ and Alex in a polite way. Oh yeah also say that Mr. Solarz is doing a mini lesson, you can do a give me five and interrupt him to transition it's okay. This type of give me five is REALLY important, I would would maybe say that it's the most important out of all the types of give me fives that were doing. If we didn't do this type of give me five correctly then we wouldn't get our special on time, and would just miss out on it. So this give me five is really important because if when do it wrong then we'll just have to suffer the consequences. So if we do this give me five badly then the person doing it would just have to stand up there saying give me five give me five and we would get their attention. Something that you want to stay away from when doing a give me five are to be to quiet, mad, loud, or just do it every single time because those things are the things that make a give me five bad.
To Give People Instructions Or Directions (e.g. Telling Peers To Tag Their Blog Post) By: Addy4/26/2016 This give me 5 is pretty easy. All you need to do is if you know something that others might not, you tell them what to do. For example, "Give me five, give me five. Remember to tag your blog post with science and ecosystems!" Also if you have seen lots of your peers confused on something, and you know what to do, then just go up toward the front of the room and show others how to do that simple thing. You want to be very loud when you do this so everybody will hear you and recognize that you might be helping them. But don't try to sound mean or annoyed. If only one person is confused, then go to them, and do not do a give me 5 for most people already know it. This give me 5 is very important because if there is one thing that everybody is confused on, then you are making the classroom very student led. And you are helping your peers at the same time! It also tells people what to do if they have no idea. This also helps your teacher if they are not in the room to tell you what to do. This also will make you feel like a good leader which is a great skill in life.
One type of give me five that I think is useful is a transition give me five. It helps clean up to go to different activities or specials. It's good to do them to transition to music because Mr. Berger the music teacher is always on time. When you do this give me five, everyone might not listen the first time so you might have to do it again or tell people to stop and list. The whole purpose of give me five is eyes on me, ears on me, mouth closed, hands free, and body facing me. This means that you can not be doing any thing while people are calling a give me five. You always need to listen to give fives that are for transitions and calling them. If you do this give me five make sure that you do it loud because before transitions are usually really loud so make sure that every one can hear it when you do the give me five.
Doing a Give-Me-Five is not that hard but it is not easy either. When you do one you have to make sure that everything that you are saying is true and it makes sense. Also when you do this give-me-five you have to be serious about it because if you are silly the class is going to think it is not that important of a give-me-five when it really is. When you do this you also want to make sure everyone is listening to you and that you are loud and proud(with the exception of video's or talking to an adult). For example, if you went Give-me-five give-me-five really soft the class would not be able to hear you and they would keep talking without even realizing what you are saying. When you do this for the first time you will prabably be a little nervous, but just remember that you are giving feedback to all of your friends/classmates not the whole world. Even if you do not like having people staring at you you should still try and do some give-me-fives. Doing this give-me-five is really important because if you did not give any feed back to your classmates about how bad or how good we were in the last special no one would care (most likely) about the way you just acted in gym, music, or art. If we did not do this give-me-five this is prabably what would happen, When you walk back in from music, gym, or art and the class was really bad and no one even thought of doing the give-me-five you would go to music the next day or the day after and at the exact same way without even realizing how bad you were and your music teacher has to Email Mr. Solarz about how bad we were And then the whole class would get in trouble. So, you prabably want to remember this give-me-five because other wise everything would turn out to be really bad.
Computer TipsMy use of give-me-five is to do a give-me-five to remind people to publish their blog post on weebly so that they don't lose everything that they have worked on for their post. When I do this give-me-five I want to make sure to do it when we have been working on the post for a while. The reason that I don't want to do this too early is because if I do it like right at the beginning it would be useless because if they just started and don't even have anything on their post they won't listen to your give-me-five. Then when they have worked on it for a while, they might forget to publish it then they might lose all their stuff. That is why there a specific time that you should do this give-me-five. You don't want to do it too early or too late. This particular give-me-five is important to our classroom because if it wasn't done well one specific person could lose all their work on weebly and that would not be fun for that one person to have to redo. Another thing that could happen, even worse, is that the whole class could lose all their work and that would be even worse to redo. If this give-me-five wasn't done at all it would be kind of the same outcome of people losing their stuff on weebly.

This give me five power is not the most important one but it is still necessary to our class. At the end of the day during REARJMCL we have recap, evaluate, and announcements. All of these jobs require the person in charge to be able to gain the attention of the class. During recap we often get off task or need reminders about something like "Remember go to your seat and recap is supposed to be silent." or "Mr. Solarz is out of the room so we might want to extra good." These are important because many people don't remember that we are supposed to do something. Also the recapper, the evaluator or the announcer needs to be in charge. If people are off task or not listening they need to make them listen and it is really just to say "Give Me 5, Give Me 5."
If the recapper, the evaluator and/or the announcer didn't do this then the job would be pointless because nobody would listen and nobody would do what they were supposed to do. It is sometimes more effective if, after you say "Give Me 5, Give Me 5." twice that you name names in a polite way like maybe "Give Me 5, Give Me 5." "Give Me 5, Give Me 5." then say give me five Jeremy and JJ Hi i'm Ben, and i'm going to give you some information about this type of "Give me Five". So i'm going to be explaining the type that is a short announcement like "whose pen is this?" or "Remember to bring in this permission slip tomorrow.". So this "Give me Five" should only last about ten seconds because it is just a quick and short reminder. This Give me five is important because without I could picture kids losing stuff and not finding it because no one is trying to find it. while doing this "Give me Five" make sure to get everyones attention and make sure they are listening. A trick for this job is too make sure that you are speaking loud and clear and showing the item or pointing to where the permission slip could go.
If this "Give me Five"was not done correctly, people would not know what you are talking about and get confused. If this was not done then people might forget to bring in permission slips, get their mail, and even maybe forget to clean up! This type of "Give me Five" is very important and without out it, this classroom would not work out that well and the classroom would go absolutely crazy (I might have over exaggerated that part.). well the classroom would not be the same and not as fun. So I am Ben and that is the type of "Give me Five" I think now you know how to do. Some things we could do with this type of "Give me Five" is make sure more people are listening because sometimes the person who lost their belonging didn't here the announcement and are still looking for it or wondering when to turn in a permission slip or something like that. If people didn't tell other people of there Responsibility they would probity forget and not do it and that would be bad expertly if people for get to do there magnet. Try to do as much give me fives as much as posibal for peoples Responsibility. This job or give me five is very important because other people are able to help get some things done ETC. If you don't know how to do something you should do this because it is very simple and easy!
This is very important because it is able to help the people that may need some help get the help that is needed for them! |
Uses of "Give Me Five" in our Classroom
In our classroom, students have the power and authority to announce "Give me five" any time necessary during class. Of course, it comes with great responsibility and my students develop that responsibility throughout the year. Here are some examples of how "Give me five" was used this year by my students. Archives
