Look at the image below that shows a portion of a forest ecosystem. Name at least five components (living or non-living things) of the ecosystem that you can either observe directly or infer.
What are three (or more) interactions that might occur in this portion of the forest ecosystem?

Answers:

Living things get many important things from their ecosystems. If there was nothing important or special to that animal in their ecosystem, they would find a new home. You want to live somewhere that fulfills your your needs. Animals get food, water, shelter (or their version of shelter), and safety all from their ecosystem.
Some evidence I have to back up question one is that animals need food, water safety and some type of shelter; they can't live without those essential needs. So they have to get those things from their ecosystem, if they didn't they would die. And then the living things wouldn't be living any more.
An ecosystem is a place where living things interact with other living things and non-living things.
One thing I would like to learn in this unit is what the main difference between a habitat, biome and ecosystem really is. I would also like to learn what classifies a place as an ecosystem over a biome or habitat.
Some components to this forest ecosystem are trees, the deer, the pond (water), rocks, bugs and mud.
One interaction that might occur in this part of the forest ecosystem is the deer playing together. One other interaction is when a deer goes to get a drink it will be interacting with the water. Another interaction would be when a bird lands on a tree. The bird and tree will be interacting because they are touching. One final interaction that could happen is if a worm is eaten by a bird. The interaction is the bird eating the worm.

This forest ecosystem is for reflection questions five and six.

Lesson 1: What Do We Notice About Poetry?

What is the poem about?
What is its subject?

I think this poem is about a kid feeling in control on his or her skate board. The subject is about how they are completely in control while on their skate board.

I think the author is describing how the June bugs are attracted to light. And when Mother turns off the light it is like a spell is broken, because they all fly away or loose interest.

How does the poem look on the page?

It looks like a misshapen kite. Or the author made it like that to keep it symmetrical. One other reason the author might have made it like that is to have it look like a human head.

The author didn't arrange the words in any specific pattern. She just put them on the page.

Reflection Questions:

Choose two personal items to explain why you're bringing them.
Explain how you plan to use the work supplies (in paragraph form.)

Answers:

I am bringing a Kindle because I can read any books I want! Books weigh a lot so, bringing a Kindle will save room. Also I love to read. And another item is a scrapbook of my family and friends back home. This will keep me from getting to homesick. Also it will remind me to text or FaceTime them or some other weird 2150 thing.
I plan to use these things because I am a doctor. Their is another doctor so she can bring more technical mars things but I just brought the basics. I don't really need to bring too much medicine because their already is a medicine maker (who I assume is an expert at medicine.) All of the things I brought will help me if someone gets hurt or is sick. It is important to help someone if they are sick on mars, because we don't want disease spreading.

How did your body respond when the ball of paper was thrown at you?
How would this reflex protect your eyes if the transparency had not been there?

Me: I definitely blinked. I flinched at how loud the sound was when the paper ball hit the transparency sheet. I think I kept my eyes closed until the ball fell. I was kind of startled. Partner: Blinked and kind of flinched, he kind of backed up-barely
My eyes would have closed so I didn't get poked by the paper. It is a good reflex to have.

Questions :

1. Can you feel it when your pupils dilate?
2. Do you have any control over your pupils when they dilate?
3. What do we call this when a reflex happens without our control?
4. Why do our pupils get bigger in the dark and smaller in the light?
5. How does this reflex protect our eyes?

No, I can not feel my pupils dilate.
I really don't have any control over it. Well I could turn the lights back off, close my eyes, or shield my eyes with my hands. But other than that no.
We could call it an unplanned reflex. Or a thing to be grateful for. Our bodies protect us without us thinking about it.
The get bigger and smaller to let in light. This allows us to have the right amount of light in our eyes to see.
This reflex is very important because if our eyes didn't dilate we would take in too much light and then become blind. Or we wouldn't be able to see.

What I Think I Know About Mars

Notes:

What do you know about NASA's plans to visit Mars?
How long will the trip take?
What supplies and equipment will the astronauts need to survive there?
What do you think are the risks of traveling to such a distant planet?
What would you want to bring with you?

NASA has many ideas about how they should have the astronauts exercise. Also they are continuing to improve a mars suit. NASA might use a return ship to eventually get astronauts home.
The trip will take around six months. Half way to mars is about 102 days.
They would need good space suits, food, water, oxygen and weather equipment. They would also need medical equipment.
One risk is solar flares, which can last a couple hours of over a week. The astronauts would be in a small room for a while. Also we don't know what kinds of diseases can be found on Mars.
I would want to bring many things to entertain myself on the long journey to Mars. I will want to bring a kindle, so I can read any book I want. I would also definitely want to bring a iPhone with games on it.
