Which Joints are Most Important

12/11/2015

Picture

Questions:

  • Which joint did you choose as our most important joint?
  • Why did you choose that joint?
  • What things would be difficult to do without that joint?
  • What movement can be done without the use of joints?

Answers:

  • I choose the jaw.
  • I chose the jaw because without your jaw you can't chew food; and if you can't eat you don't live.
  • You would have to purify all your meat and food and dump it down your throat.
  • Jumping half a inch of the ground? Trust Falling, blinking, falling face first on your front side. You can't really do much without joint.

Signs of Exertion

Observation 1: Getting a small Side Cramp
Because He had been running for a while and maybe because he didn't stretch.
Observation 2: Not talking as understandably.
Because he is tired and has been running in place for a few minutes.
Observation 3: Hands flailing
Because he did not feel like putting as much effort into his running. Also after running for a while you loose interest in the little things.
Observation 4: Face is getting red
Because blood flows to your face to try to move the heat your body is generating to the skin's surface, where it can be radiated off.
Observation 5: He is breathing heavy
Because he is getting tired and he is not pacing his breathing as you should while running. It will help you run faster.
Observation 6: Knees not going as high
Because he was running for a few minutes and has used up lots of energy.
Observation 7: Sweating
Because he is working hard and wearing pants. That will reduce the air that gets to his skin.
Observation 8: He is doing anything he can to not have to jump
Because I feel the jumping jacks are more tiring. Also he doesn't want to get tired.
Observation 9: Breathing every second
Because he didn't take time to find a pace and breath.
Observation 10: Getting irritated more than usual
Because he has been running for a couple minutes and I didn't respond to him when he was running.

Reflection Questions:

-What three basic things do our bodies need in order survive?

-If we exert ourselves, what are three (or more) signs that our bodies are in distress? Explain why our body does that (research it if you need to).

-What can we do to make these signs go away?

Answers:

-Our bodies need food, water, sleep and energy.

-We sweat as our body temperature rises. Sweating is a body's way of cooling it's self. We  breathe heavily too. Our muscles are working hard, therefore they need more oxygen. Finally our muscles get sore. Your body wants/needs extra nutrients when exerting yourself, so the heart needs to pump more.

-You could drink some water and sit down and relax.

4 - SBA 2: Observing & Describing an Apple

Observations:

  • The skin is red/orangeish with a very light green/yellow. It has faint light green dots with a whitish middle.
  • The flesh of the apple looks wet and juicy.
  • In the spot on top where the stem should be it is all green with brownish spots. It is very rough.
  • The half of the apple looks like a heart shape.
  • It smells sweet and a little bit tart.
  • In the flesh there is a circle with a little darker green flesh that I think is the core.
  • The outer top edge of the flesh is staying the lightest and not getting brown.
  • The skin of the apple is glossy as if it was lightly waxed.
  • There is two slim slots where seeds could be.
  • The flesh is firm except where it is browning a lot.
  • The flesh on the toothpick I poked in the apple came up with slightly yellowish, translucent, apple flesh.
  • When I scrape a toothpick on the crisp flesh of the apple it makes a scraping noise.
  • When I scratch the skin the tiny line that remains is kind of brown.
  • The juice of the apple was easily absorbed by the paper towel. But then quickly evaporates.
  • No seeds on this half of the apple.
  • The skin is almost transparent.
  • The middle of the flesh (core) is darker than the other flesh.

Reflection Questions:

Answers:

  • Why were you able to observe so many things about your apple today?
  • Why is observation and description so important in science?
  • Rank order the five senses in the order or your observations (i.e. which sense was used most, second most, etc.).
  • I had a lot of time, a good magnifying glass and a toothpick.
  • It is important because it can help when comparing things or describing something to someone.
  • Touch, Hearing, Sight, Smell, Taste because tasting things isn't as important as touching or feeling objects.

How might Humans and Aliens be Different?

12/2/2015

Humans:

Picture
  • Our two legs and two feet work well with the gravity Earth atmosphere possesses.
  • We have lungs to breath in the air made of lots of oxygen.
  • We have eyes to see the objects in front of us.

Aliens:

Picture
  • The red fin on my alien's head is to keep him cool because the planet is always humid.
  • The Alien is heavy so he doesn't float in the low gravity.
  • His starfish like body helps him move across the wet smooth surface of the planet.

1. Compare and contrast your alien and a human.  What similarities do they have and what differences do they have?  These should be related to the parts of their bodies that have a specific purpose (Example: Both have feet which help them both stand straight up.)  Try to be specific and explain things with detail.

Comparisons: We are both life-forms. We both have an eye(s) to see with.
Contrasts: I have legs, and arms; he doesn't. We both have different kinds of mouths because we eat different things. Mostly everything else regarding body parts.

More Aliens from different planets!

WEXPN3 Focusing on Perspective

  • Laying on the minuscule navy blue squares
  • With the whitish scratch over the hoodoos
  • The reflective chain connecting it all
  • It said BRYCE CANYON NATIONAL PARK in black around the picture
“Where am I?” I ask out loud to no one, when I wake up. Finally when I open my eyes and can’t believe what I see. I'm laying in a navy blue hole, sinking down quicker and quicker. Then realizing I might be sitting on my backpack, I stand up, only to sink lower. “But I can’t be unless I'm...” panicking now. Then I try climb up the slanted hole. With every step I take, I just sink deeper and deeper into the hole. After a couple tries of this, I decided to jump/climb up the backpack instead of hiking up it. I notice one of my key chains that is now almost as big as me. “Oh No I’m an inch tall!” It is my Bryce Canyon chain. It faintly reflects the little light there is. I can’t see much because I notice that I am in my closet! I can see all the different colored clothes. Sitting down on the minuscule navy blue squares that make up my backpack, I notice the whitish scratch over the hoodoos. Wondering about the fourth grade and if I will ever get to become big again, I see the door to the closet open and the light reflect off the shiny metal surface that makes up the key chain. It’s my mom; well I think it is because she is HUGE. I have to hide so she doesn't see me! So I carefully and quietly drop the chain down the side of the backpack and hold onto the chain. I climb down/bungee jump into the mesh water bottle pocket. I'm still holding onto the flipping picture of Bryce Canyon.
