Lesson 1: What Do We Notice About Poetry?

​What is the poem about?
What is its subject?

I think this poem is about a kid feeling in control on his or her skate board. The subject is about how they are completely in control while on their skate board. 


​I think the author is describing how the June bugs are attracted to light. And when Mother turns off the light it is like a spell is broken, because they all fly away or loose interest.  

​How does the poem look on the page?

It looks like a misshapen kite. Or the author made it like that to keep it symmetrical. One other reason the author might have made it like that is to have it look like a human head. 

The author didn't arrange the words in any specific pattern. She just put them on the page.
