This is a subheading and it goes under a heading and usually answers the heading.

Caption

This is as caption and describes the photograph or photo.

Sidebar

This is a sidebar and it shows stuff off to the side that will help understand the page.

Glossary

This is where it says where the words are and what they mean.

A Chart
This is a chart and it describes moments in time as a chart or a timeline.

Timeline
The timeline shows when things happened compared to things that happened before and after.

Bibliography
This is where there is more information on the topic and where they got it from.

Heading
This is the title of one part of the book and gives the reader a hint what the next couple pages will be about.

Bullets
Little dots used to separate Ideas and make notes or lists.

Diagram
This is a diagram of a place and labeled and has different colors that mean different things.

Index
This is an Index and it shows where different topics of the book are and where they are.

Biography

Tells about someone. This is about Women explorers.
Lucy Evelin Cheeseman is who we will read about.
She was encouraged to bring home insects and bugs.

Reference

Lizards are more common than every body thinks.
It's Scales are the fingernails on your fingers.
Can blend in with stuff.
They can regrow body parts.
It's a reference about Lizards

Literary

Literary is a story but still tells facts.
Has illustrations instead of photographs.
Didn't tells as much facts as a reference.

Stop and Jots are not notes.
Stop and jots are thoughts that you have wile reading.
These thoughts can be any kind of lit circle discussion or any type of thought that might not share

Stop & Jots

Via is compassionate, she cares about Justin enough to convince that he will be OK memorizing his lines. Not every friend cares as much as she does about her friends.
A ladybug landed on Via hand and I think Justin wished for another date with Via because he kissed her. I think Via wished for one to because she smiled after.
I think that those three boys are Julian, Miles, and his twin Henry. They saw Jack and they don't like Jack.
I think Justin will go up to Julian and his friends and ask him why they were being mean to Jack because Jack just brought up Augie, and Justin will be like that except for Via.
I think Miranda still cares about Augie because she she still has a picture of him in her wallet and when you have a best friend you get to care about there family.
Augie mom and Augie were talking about daisy meeting grans in heaven and they were just having a nice peaceful talk and mom was trying to calm down Augie about daisy passing away.
The play is just about to start and they're looking at Via and her friends in the program. I wonder what will happen.
Everybody liked the play and the whole audience cheered. They were the last people to get and they got a standing ovation.
Augie got lost in the crowd and a familiar voice sounded and I think it is Miranda.
Via went to summer camp and she would make up things about herself and go hang out with the boys and that isn't allowed and when she got back she called Ella instead of Via.

1. Charles W. Walker because I want to see how to work a gun and how often they used them.
2. Captain John Ira Parke because his job is important and I want to see how he does it.

Mistress Maclean, She was the Innkeeper. She had lots of laws to follow and had two helpers. She helped with lots of important things in the town.
Peter Smith was a Frontiersman. He lived about 10 hours away from any other towns. He usually had one meal a day.
Private Rowland Soule, he didn't have a lot money. He taught us how to hold a musket for an inspection.
Ida, she was a mom and she had lots of children's toys. They were very expensive. Some games were, Jacobs Ladder, Shut the Box and Quoints .
Captain Parke , he was a surveyor. He measured land with links and held a big compass on a stick.
Zeb, He was a carpenter, He used hatchets, axes, and knives and other tools like that to cut wood.
Charles W. Walker, He was a militia. His gun used a big sized bullet for his flint gun and militias made the most money
Catherine DuBois, She taught us about colonial clothing. Girls wore dresses and gowns, Boys wore clothes like there fathers.
Jennet Lundhal, She was a spinner, She spun wool than gave it to the weaver. She bartered and traded with people.
Joseph O'Fallon He was a trapper, He trapped animals and than traded it for money. Beaver fur was very expensive and valuable. The native Americans were businesses partners.

Reflection

It was cool seeing how people lived there life as a colonist. WE heard what clothes the wore, and how to use a gun, etc. They actually looked like real colonists with a job and a house or shelter. Also, they let us hold a fake musket and learn the orders and how and when to use it. My favorite person was Ida because I learned what toys and games kids would play.

Answers:

His favorite is Share something that was confusing, because it helps understand the book that you're reading better
Pose a question because the conversations get much better.
Pose a Question and we asked each other if we could solve the mystery that was going on and it was a very good discussion.

STOP & JOTS

Summer and Augie wanted Jack to come sit with them at lunch. His friends dissed Jack again. Jack was getting looked at and Augie said "Welcome to my World."
Justin is now Vias "friend". And I wonder how he looks like and I want to know a little bit about him.
Justin was lying that Augie looks fine, and usually people wouldn't come back when they saw Augie because Justin was saying that sarcastically.
Via and Justin go to restaurant so Justin can meet Vias parents. After, they went back and had ice cream. Justin has ticks because he's nervous

Jack punched Julian and Augie liked it. Augie asked him if he really did and Augie knew he did it because Julian said something mean about Augie.
Again and Again. Everybody keeps dissing Jack Will, because he punched Julian
Julian had 200 people party for hollidays and told everybody Jack Will had anger problems. Also, Jack and Augie were some of the few people who didn't get invited.

Reflection Questions:

What guideline above was new to you? Why do you suppose we should follow that guideline. If nothing was new to you, create one new guideline that we should all follow while discussing our reading. Explain why you think we should follow that guideline.

Rube Goldberg Project - JJ

In my project it starts out with somebody knocking over the dominoes. Than the dominoes knock the ball in the scale, then the scale launches a different ball onto a ramp, the ramp flings the ball and it hits a target. The target opens a blind and the sun melts ice in a funnel. The water goes into a glass. The ball that was in the scale falls out onto a ramp and hits a different target. That target activates his alarm and plays the persons favorite sound.

The dominoes tip over the ball into the ramp. The ball is launched onto a target. The target makes the blinds open and after the sun melts the ice in the funnel. Into a cup, then the other ball that was in the scale rolls out onto a target that plays his favorite song and gives him his breakfast.

Answer the following Reflection Questions:
1. What was the most surprising thing you learned about energy during this entire unit? Why was it surprising?
2. What was your favorite part of this energy unit? Why was it your favorite?
3. Where is energy found?
4. How would you define energy?

Answers:

It was all the types of energy forms and there probably was more than I learned
I think this was because it was really fun
In things that have one or more energy forms in them
Something that makes something happen

If you were about to read a book about about an astronaut who went to Venus, what are three or more things you might think about before reading that would activate your schema?
If the book said, "The astronaut's helmet began to melt..." what would you imagine the cause was? Why would his or her helmet be melting? Use your schema to answer this question.

Insulated Bottles

What was your maximum temperature (use your Data Chart, not the picture)?
What was your minimum temperature (use your Data Chart, not the picture)?
What is your range? If you had any penalties or gifts, include those in your total.
What materials did you use in your insulated bottle (type them in order from your first layer, second layer, and third layer.)? Why did you choose the materials that you did?
What are some materials that you didn't choose? Why didn't you choose them?
Explain any blips on your graph (if you have them). Why do you think it did that?
Is an insulator a good or a poor conductor of heat energy? This is an important question, so really think before you answer it!

About 105º F.
About 72ºF.
33ºF.
I used two tinfoil sheets, quilt, and some white fuzzy stuff. They looked like good insulators.
I didn't choose the plastic wrap because it wasn't very thick. Also, the thin cloth and that wasn't thick either.
It's probably because the holders including me weren't holding the bottle straight up and we kept wobbling them.
Poor conductor because insulators are supposed to stop heat and conductors renew heat and keep it and the bottles were supposed to keep the heat inside the bottle.
