  1. Plants need energy and matter to grow. Where do plants get their ENERGY?
  2. Where do plants get their MATTER?
  3. Where do plants get their FOOD (be careful - this is a trick question)?
  4. Why are plants called Producers?
  5. What would happen if plants didn't have a way to get energy?
  6. What would happen to animals if there were no plants to eat?
  7. What are some of the LIVING components of a plant "system"? (A plant "system" is everything that a plant needs to survive and everything it produces.)
  8. What are some of the NON-LIVING components of a plant "system"?
  9. In what ways do the components of the system interact?
  10. What matter is transported in and out of the plant system?
Answers:
  1. They get there energy in food and in food is calories and that where they get there energy from.
  2.  Plants get all of there matter from water and the sun.
  3. I think it comes from the elements and that is in the soil.
  4. Because they produce food for animals.
  5. Than animals would start dying because the plants would.
  6. The animals would die because without producers animals can't live.
  7. Maybe other plants because they give out buds.
  8. Some Non-living components of a plant system are soil,water,sun and elements
  9. A plant needs water and sun to survive so the sun shines on the plant and the plant takes in water
  10.  Soil and water is transported because water is sucked up from the soil.

  4. Using this food chain, "sunlight to apple to worm to bird to cat," How do organisms in this food chain get the matter they need for body repair and growth?
  5. Using the same food chain in #4, How do organisms in that food chain get the energy they need for body warmth and motion?
  6. What do you think happens to the matter that is NOT used by the organisms in a food chain or food web? Is it wasted or does something else happen?
Answers:
  1. .Well, my food chain went from the sun to a human and in between were grass, cows, wolf, and moose.
  2. No, because once a species gets eaten the food web will shrink and different animals won't be able to eat that species anymore because there gone.
  3. It means that there species has been eaten and the food web will shrink.
  4. The animal gets nutrients from whatever is in front of them and matter is in them.
  5. Animals get energy from matter and matter is what they eat
  6. It is not wasted, it is just matter that animals or whatever don't want to eat

On the human food label:
  1. How do we find the energy (calories) per serving?
  2. How do we find the matter (carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins, minerals)?
  3. Where can we locate the list of ingredients?
On the pet food label:
  1. Where can we locate the list of ingredients?
  2. How do we find the percentage of different types of matter in the food?
Human food label:
  1. Look at the top of the Nutrition facts and find how many calories it is in one serving.
  2. It's bolded in the middle and then you can look at the percentage or milligrams.
  3. At the bottom where it has ingredients is bolded. On the Pet food label
  4. The list of ingredients is at the very top.
  5. You look at the guaranteed analysis, then look at the percentage.
Answer the following questions while analyzing the Nutrition Labels:
  1. As a result of looking at food labels, what did you learn about food?
  2. Look at the ingredients of one human food label. Write down the food name. What ingredients came from animals?
  3. What ingredients in the above food label came from plants?
  4. What similarities and differences did you notice between the human food and pet food labels you looked at?
  5. Choose an animal/insect from the ecosystem walk. What do you think it eats? Explain what you think it gets from its food.
Answers
  1. It can help you grow with calcium, and give you energy with calories. 
  2. Tomato soup. In it there was no ingredients from animals.
  3. The ingredients that came from plants was corn and tomatoes.
  4. I couldn't find a lot but there was spices in both of them, and there was a lot of calcium and stuff like that.
  5. I chose a squirrel and I would say that they mostly eat fruits and vegetables.

  1. Calories provide animals and humans Matter and energy, the more calories the more energy but it is not good for your health
