School wide reading lesson - 3

Questions:

What did you think of this book? What did you like and what did you dislike?
This was historical fiction. What do you like about historical fiction and what don't you like?
When the book ended, what were you thinking about? What are you still wondering or wish you'd know more about? Why do you want to know?

Answers:

Historical fiction is not my favorite, and this book would not be in my favorites. Except, The pictures and descriptions were really good
I only like historical fiction during my favorite times in history but overall I'm not a fan of history
I wish they could write about four more pages to see if grandma was able to make it to the wedding. Also, if there was an epilogue I wonder what would happen.

Jessie migrates to America
Jessie just made a friend but she just lost him
America had busy streets
She wrote note to grandma that she misses her grandma
she sewed good lace
She finds Lou walking and started hanging out
They might get married
Lou proposes to Jessie
she saved up for a ticket for Grandma for america
They got married in the end and Grandma was able to make it

What kinds of books do you like to read? Why?

I usually read before bed and in my bedroom because it's just a good way to get me tired
I like fiction and comics because the characters can do stuff that real humans can't actually do and it's funnier
Nothing in particular but one of my favorites is Andrew Clements
I would probably start with my favorite author and look for books that I've not read before
It usually takes a little bit less than a month if not a whole month

Stop & Jots:

Guy moves into house that hasn't been lived in for years, he's pretty brave. I'd be worried about the ghosts and spiders.
Nobody liked his house but he did, he doesn't care what other people think. Neither would I.
An again and again. They keep saying "this place is a disgrace, nobody likes his house.
Neighbors told him to fix his house but he just walked away.
The neighbors wanted to send him to jail. They sent long notes and they were being mean.
Henry is not phased and he doesn't care what they say. I like that he does this.
I'm starting to think if Henry is rude, the want and he's not hungry in a mean way.
He got annoyed with neighbors so he just moved and left his house.
Neighbors wondering if he would return. Neighbors want somebody to live.
Henry was missing the neighbors, he wrote to the mayor If I moved back would I be able to live the lifestyle that I want?

Conductors of Heat

How did heat energy transfer to the butter in this experiment?
What connections can you make between this experiment and yesterday's experiment? "Both today's experiment and yesterday's experiment... The main differences were..."
How did your results compare to your predictions?
Which of the tested materials were the two best conductors? What is your evidence?
Which of the tested materials were the two worst conductors? What is your evidence?
Do you think water is a good or poor conductor? Why? Can you think of any evidence to support your answer?
Why do you think it matters which material is a good or bad conductor? How do we use conductors in our life?

Predictions: I think that the butter will slide in the following order. copper, brass ,bamboo, aluminum, plastic. The answers are in the following order. Copper, Aluminum, Brass, plastic, and bamboo

It went through the material and into the middle of the butter
Both experiments showed energy tranfers
My predictions were off by a little but I got the first one right
The copper and aluminum because they melted in less than 15 seconds
The bamboo and plastic because they took more than half a hour
Yes because if it's warm it transfers to cold
We we have to find insulators for coats so they make us warm and many others and conductors.

What happened to the temperature of the cold water over time?
What happened to the temperature of the warm water over time?
How did your graph show what happened?
After 15 minutes, what did you notice about the lines on your graph?
What happened to make the temperature of the cold water get warmer?
What happened to make the temperature of the warm water get colder?
Use your line graph to predict what the temperature of the warm and cold water would be after 10 more minutes. Record your predictions below. Why did you choose these temperatures?

Which direction did the heat energy move?

Answers:

One of them was cold and one of them was really hot, The cold wasn't going as fast as the warm.
It went up little by little, it went down a little at the beginning.
I dipped down fast but then evened out with the cold.
It showed how warm was doing all the work and making the cold a little bit warmer.
They were about the same height, they had the same temperature.
The warm had to make agree, The warm was making the cold hotter.
It took it's warmth and gave some to the cold so it went down.
I think the cold would go back cold and the warm would go back to warm.
NO because warmth was making the cold, the food coloring didn't travel anywhere.
It went diagonal at the beginning and then it straitened out

1.They decided that they wanted to have independence so they had a war. Also, Massachusetts wanted it most.
2.That there was 56 representatives there and there was an average of 4 people from each colony.
3.It's just better to listen to people and you don't have to read from a textbook and it's fun!

     1.In objects or things that make something

     2.Probably light energy and sound energy.

     4.Yes, usually electrical or light has a byproduct of sound.
     5. It's important because it tells you how things happen
     6.I wasn't here for putting the pictures on the wheel but I did help filling out the paper and taking pictures, we would usually switch off.

Thought Process: When I was thinking of things to make I was just looking
around and there were of course a lot of people so I
decided to make a person.

    1. I did this guy because he has a lot of dots in him.
    2. I like that I did the straw arms and legs.
    3. I enjoyed this activity because there weren't many directions.

Energy Card Sort

I liked doing this project because we didn't sit down and write a sheet of paper by ourselves, we got pictures and sorted them into 8 categories. The part that was hard was correcting our answers and putting them into the right categories. The easy part was making the signs for the categories. Also, I thought chemical energy was confusing but I'm starting to get it. I liked working in groups as well instead of by ourselves. The easiest category was probably sound energy.
