Plants as Producers!

Reflection/Synthesis:

1. Plants need energy and matter to grow. Where do plants get their ENERGY?
2. Where do plants get their MATTER?
3. Where do plants get their FOOD (be careful - this is a trick question)?
4. Why are plants called Producers?
5. What would happen if plants didn't have a way to get energy?
6. What would happen to animals if there were no plants to eat?
7. What are some of the LIVING components of a plant "system"? (A plant "system" is everything that a plant needs to survive and everything it produces.)
8. What are some of the NON-LIVING components of a plant "system"?
9. In what ways do the components of the system interact?
10. What matter is transported in and out of the plant system?

Answers:

1. Plants get their energy from the sun. It keeps them warm and if they get too hot they will wilt. 
2. Plants get their matter from Carbon. Carbon comes from carbon dioxide, which the plants breath in!
3.  They get their matter from the soil that they are planted in because it gives them nutrients, it gets its water from the rain or water. It gets its food from photosynthesis, which means the plant makes its own food. It gets it from carbon dioxide, soil, the sun, and water.
4. .  They are called producers because the produce food for other animals and then those animals become food for more animals and so on, so they produced that to happen.
5.  The food chain would be WAY down for one part because they wont be producing food for other animals to eat.
6. The animals would die because plants were their food source and other animals would die because the animals who ate the plants aren't there for them to eat ect. 
   
7. I didn't know the answer but I think that  Biotic factors  is one of the LIVING components of a plant.
8. Some of the non-living components are soil and carbon-dioxide.
9. One way that they interact is that the plant takes the nutrients out of soil.
10. I don't know the answer but I think It is Oxygen.
