How Our Cells Get Nutrients

Reflection Questions:

1. How did the gelatin in Cup 1 change?  Did its ability to pass through the filter change?
2. Did the enzyme powder cause the change in Cup 1?  What evidence do you have to support your answer?
   
3. What was the one difference between Cups 1 and 2?  Was there a change to the gelatin in cup 2?
   
4. Which material from our lab was a metaphor for the bloodstream?  In which cup did the gelatin’s nutrients reach the “bloodstream”?
5. Based on your experimental findings, why do you think it’s important for the food you eat to be digested?
6. How is food digested in the digestion system?  What type of digestion did the model demonstrate?
   
7. What do you think would happen if you ate lots of food but couldn’t digest it? Would you still be hungry? Would you have lots of energy? Would you perform well in a sports competition?  Explain!

1. The gelatin in cup one turned to liquid. It passed through almost instantly through the filter.
2. The enzyme changed it for sure. My evidence is the gelatin that didn't have the powder never passed through the cup or turn into liquid.
3. Gelatin 2 dint change much at all. Gelatin one changed a lot. It was really liquidy if not all liquid. Gelatin one didn't change.
4. Cup one made it. It went through the filter which is like getting to the bloodstream.
5. If you didn't digest you'd have these big chunks of food in our throat and choke. We couldn't be able to live.
6.The model showed chemical digestion. Chemical digestion is where your saliva breaks your food down with the chemicals. There's also mechanical digestion with is you teeth chewing.
7.You wouldn't be as strong because you couldn't digest your food. Your food gives nutrient's and settles hunger but when your doesn't digest you cant get these nutrients and will be very hungry all the time. You couldn't have enough body fat or nutrients to play in a Sports Competition.
