What I Think I Know About Mars

Its very dangerous to get to Mars.
To get to Mars its 250 million miles.
I would take 2 1/2 years to get there.
The days are only a few minutes longer on Mars but years are twice as long.

What do you know about NASA's plans to visit Mars?
How long will the trip take?
What supplies and equipment will the astronauts need to survive there?
What do you think are the risks of traveling to such a distant planet?
What would you want to bring with you?

1. They are trying to see if there's life on Mars or if there's minerals. Also they want to see if they could live.
2.The trip will take 2 and a half years and 18 months staying there. It takes 250 million miles to get there.
3. They will need food and water. They need air as well. They need something to exercise to so they don't get really weak when they get to Mars.
4. There are specks of meteorite that could tear apart ships.
5.I would want something to exercise with and something to to. Maybe a few goodies because I don't think they would have treats. Maybe something to do like a crossword book.

87 have safe water close by. 13 didn't and have clean water and its a while away.
62 have a safe sewage. 38 don't though so they could get diseases. Usually poop gives that.
68 had clean air and 32 couldn't because of pollution.

14% of the world cant read or write.
More males read then female.
63 people could have jobs.

The richest 10 people in the village 85% wealth.
The poorest 10 people have less than 2 dollars a day.
80 people get 6$ a day.

50 radios
45 televisions
92 telephone. More than 60 cell phones.
22 computers.

Cars...
2 trucks

16 bikes.
Electric....
76 have electricity
24 don't.
Most of the 76 use there power for light at night.
Health...
41 people are in a area with malarial.
250 is the max people.

Reflection Questions:

How did the gelatin in Cup 1 change? Did its ability to pass through the filter change?
Did the enzyme powder cause the change in Cup 1? What evidence do you have to support your answer?
What was the one difference between Cups 1 and 2? Was there a change to the gelatin in cup 2?
Which material from our lab was a metaphor for the bloodstream? In which cup did the gelatin’s nutrients reach the “bloodstream”?
Based on your experimental findings, why do you think it’s important for the food you eat to be digested?
How is food digested in the digestion system? What type of digestion did the model demonstrate?
What do you think would happen if you ate lots of food but couldn’t digest it? Would you still be hungry? Would you have lots of energy? Would you perform well in a sports competition? Explain!

1. The gelatin in cup one turned to liquid. It passed through almost instantly through the filter.
2. The enzyme changed it for sure. My evidence is the gelatin that didn't have the powder never passed through the cup or turn into liquid.
3. Gelatin 2 dint change much at all. Gelatin one changed a lot. It was really liquidy if not all liquid. Gelatin one didn't change.
4. Cup one made it. It went through the filter which is like getting to the bloodstream.
5. If you didn't digest you'd have these big chunks of food in our throat and choke. We couldn't be able to live.
6.The model showed chemical digestion. Chemical digestion is where your saliva breaks your food down with the chemicals. There's also mechanical digestion with is you teeth chewing.
7.You wouldn't be as strong because you couldn't digest your food. Your food gives nutrient's and settles hunger but when your doesn't digest you cant get these nutrients and will be very hungry all the time. You couldn't have enough body fat or nutrients to play in a Sports Competition.

100 Word Challenge The Savannah

It was a grey day in the Savannah. Very foggy. I was worried because I couldn't see anything. It was even more eerie when I heard the laugh of a hyena. I brought my sandwich out but instead of eating it split it in half and threw into miserable doom of fog. I heard fighting and laughing until it was all silent. I was a researcher and researching hyenas. I hear footsteps and spin around. I jump up. "I'm dead." I think. No cant think like that. Have to try. I see my truck and climb in and race away.

Breathing Through Straws

What was the purpose of breathing through the straws?
While breathing through the wide straw, were some of the activities more difficult to do than others? If so, which ones?
How does your breathing change as you become more active? Why do these changes happen?
Why do you think that breathing through the wide straw caused the effects that you described?
Did breathing through the thin straw affect you differently than breathing through the wide straw? If so, explain why you think this occurred.
Why do you think you were asked to breathe through the thin straw for 20 seconds instead of 1 minute?
Why do you think you were not asked to walk or run while breathing through the thin straw?
How would your daily life be affected if you could only breathe in small amounts of air with each breath?

1. It showed how people with asthma and other lung diseases feel. Very tiring.\
2. The running was very hard and the sitting and walking weren't that hard. Running was really the only one that was that hard.
3. You have heavier breaths because your body needs more oxygen then they usually need.
4. Well the wide straw was easier and was less difficult. It didn't really take your breath away. Only in running did I feel that way because I was not getting enough oxygen for my body to work.
5.The thin straw I thought was to easy. Only in the end did I even really feel that bad. I could feel the difference though on how much less oxygen you get.
6.Well some people might get dizzy because not enough oxygen is bad for you. I think I could do a minute though.
7. If you ran with the thin straw for 60 seconds or a minute I think you'd faint. The wide straw was kind of hard so the thin straw would be 10 times worse.
8. You couldn't run as easily and if you could for short distances. It would be very hard.
