Lesson 1: What Do We Notice About Poetry?

3/29/2016

What is the poem about?
What is it's subject?

  1. I think it's about the person being in control and that he is in charge of what he does and where he goes.
  2. I don't think that it was really an enchantment but it was easier to visualize then the one about the skate board.

How does the poem look on the page

1.  It looks like a diamond or a shrunken skateboard.  I think the author might have meant it to be a head because the person is about a person.  It might be the head of a Zyggerian Slave Guard.  No idea why though. It also might be a drop of sweat because you sweat when you skateboard.

Goal: Get less stop and jots but more details in them.

  • I think that it started in a different country and it happened a long time ago because in America, even long ago the houses look different.  Plus, I think that in America both genders went to school.
  • Why does she go to school if she is a girl and if her grandma wants Jessie to learn to read and write why doesn't her grandma want to read and write herself.
  • I predict that the Rabbi will pick Jessie to go to America because the book is about how Jessie went across the sea.
  • I think that the Rabbi detests the some of the people that are bragging.  But I think that it is good that he is sleeping on it so he can buy himself some time to choose.
  • I think that Jessie doesn't want to go because she would have to leave her grandmother but at least she can find a new life.
  • I wonder why Jessie gave grandmother the ring because I think that she would have a personal connection to the ring because it was her mother's
  • I think because Grandma and Jessie were trying to teach each other a skill they will have need for it in their new life.
  • I think that it will be hard for her because she just left her only living relative behind.
  • I now think that it will be even harder because she just made a friend and then just lost him.
  • Now that Jessie designed the dress and has started to go to school I wonder what language she used to speak.
  • I think that Jessie will get married to Lou.
  • I thought that Jessie was saving up for a good wedding not for a ticket to America.
  • I think Jessie knew that Grandma would want to get the ring to her and if Grandma had the ring she would have to go to America.

  • I think Henry is brave for moving into a  house that has been vacant for seven years.  I think he would be scared of ghost and spiders.
  • He never thought to fix up a house that was really run down.  At least he has all the stuff he needs.
  • I think that I would be fine as long I had by Rubik's cubes
  • I noticed an Again and Again because all of the neighborhood people are saying "that place is a disgrace"  I think the author is trying to emphasize that his house is really crummy
  • When the people came and wanted him to fix his house he just walked away.
  • I really think that Henry should fix his house because he needs to think about the other people's need.
  • When the mayor told the people to try to be nice that was words of the wiser because I think that that is better than fining them
  • I think that Henry is selfish because even though the ladies baked a pie for him and then he just turned it away
  • Why did he just leave.  It is way easier to just mow your law
  • I don't think that Henry will return because everyone was mean to him.
  • Why was he missing them because they were mean to him but then again they brought him a pie.

  3. I really like Veronica Roth, Rick Riordan, myths, and futuristic fiction.
  4. Sometimes I go off recommendations from friends or I look for specific authors or genres.
  5. I choose to read because I think that is is very fun.  Better than video games in my opinion.
