without meat tenderizer

  • it is still green
  • the coffee filter is wet at the bottom but it let no jello through

with meat tenderizer

  • It has spilled through and is sticking to the side of the
  • The coffee filter is completely wet.

How does this relate to the stomach and why did the meat tenderizer do what it do?

I think it relates to the stomach because the stomach squirts acid at the food to break it down.  The meat tenderizer broke down the jello and allow it to flow through the coffee filter.  Since the coffee filter was completely wet in the cup with meat tenderizer I think the meat tenderizer made the liquid wet and it spread to the rest of the body.

Questions

Answers

1. How are the two cups different and why?
2. What process in the human body is demonstrated by the liquid in the bottom of the cup?
3. What process in the human body is demonstrated by the wet coffee filter?
4. How does this lab help us understand digestion?

  1. The cup without the meat tenderizer didn't have any liquid in the bottom whereas the cup with the meat tenderizer did have liquid in the bottom.  Also the meat tenderizer one coffee filter was wet.
  2. I think the process of the stomach breaking down the food was symbolized because the meat tenderizer broke down the jello and made it able to go through the the coffee filter.  It symbolizes the enzymes.
  3. The wetness is the large intestine because it absorbs the liquid and then it distributes the liquid all over the body.
  4. It helps us understand digestion because it shows us that it takes the jello (food) and breaks it down into what it could use: the liquid.  There is no enzymes in the green one so it didn't break down at all.

Questions

Answers

  • Explain what surprised you about the statistics of our world.
  • What upset you?  What do you wish were different?
  • What made you want to do something to improve a situation?
  • Can you do anything to help? If so, what?
I was very surprised that that 10% of the world had nearly 85% of the world's wealth and that the village only had ten automobiles.  I was extremely surprised that the lowest 10% made only $2 a day.  I wish that the cost of automobiles were a bit lower because only 10% of the people can afford them or maybe they don't need it.  I also wish that more people had electricity because only 76% of people have electricity.  I wanted to decrease the number of people who could get malaria because 41% live in a place where malaria is common.  I think that if people donate some money to doctors then they might be able to help the people who get sick and die because they have no available treatment.  I could help by doing volunteer projects to help get supplies to the people who need it and I could encourage others to help in their own ways.

Human Body Lesson 12 - Breathing Hard for our Muscles

2/4/2016

Sitting in a chair (Wide Straw)
  • How did you feel?
It was fine for reasons below.
  • Was it easy or hard to breathe through the straw?
Easy because I wasn't doing anything and the straw was pretty big
  • Did you want to stop or keep going?                                                                                                               I wanted to keep going because it was fun.

Walking in Place (Wide Straw)
  • How did you feel?
It was a little bit harder because I was doing doing something instead of just sitting there
  • Was it easy or hard to breathe through the straw?
It was harder than the last time but it still wasn't that.
  • Did you want to stop or keep going?                                                                                                               I think it was harder than last time but it was fun so I would have kept going.
Running in Place (Wide Straw)
  • How did you feel?
It was a lot harder than the previous activities and it was hard to get air
  • Was it easy or hard to breathe through the straw?
It was very hard because by body was demanding a lot of oxygen and the straw was limiting the air.
