What I think I know about Mars

2/20/2015

Notes on the video:
  • Mars is also known as the red planet
  • The space between space and mars is a hostile place to travel
  • getting their will take courage and the best minds
  • The juarny is 250 million miles
  • it is only a third the size of Earth
  • Its highest peek is 3 times taller than mount everise
  • Gravity is as much as half it on Earth
  • A year is twice as long
  • When the first mission to mars takes off their goal is to find proof of life

  1. What do you know about NASA's plans to visit Mars?
  2. How long will the trip take?
  3. What supplies and equipment will the astronauts need to survive there?
  4. What do you think are the risks of traveling to such a distant planet?
  5. What would you want to bring with you?
1. One thing I know about the visit to mars is they are going  to try to make the trip last less than it usually does.
2. The trip will take 6 months to get to Mars. I think it will take this long because you are traveling  a very long distance to get to Mars.
3. They need the work out materials to stay fit. They need this because they are in a low gravity place and when the get back they might not be able to walk for some time.
4. One risk is a solar flare that can put a hole in the space craft. This is dangers because If you do not make it into the shelter in time you might not make it.
5. One thing I would want to bring with me is a book. I would bring a book because you are staying up there for a period of time and I might get bored.

How do our cells get the nutrients they need?

  • 1. How did the gelatin in Cup 1 change?  Did its ability to pass through the filter change?
  • Did the enzyme powder cause the change in Cup 1?  What evidence do you have to support your answer?
  • 2.What was the one difference between Cups 1 and 2?  Was there a change to the gelatin in cup 2?
  • 3.Which material from our lab was a metaphor for the bloodstream?  In which cup did the gelatin’s nutrients reach the “bloodstream”?
  • 4.Based on your experimental findings, why do you think it’s important for the food you eat to be digested?
  • 5.How is food digested in the digestion system?  What type of digestion did the model demonstrate?
  • 6.What do you think would happen if you ate lots of food but couldn’t digest it? Would you still be hungry? Would you have lots of energy? Would you perform well in a sports competition?  Explain!

  • 1. The gelatin in Cup 1 hanged because it started to separate in the cup. The ability to pass through the filter changed because it created a hole to pass through.
    1. The enzyme powder did cause the change in cup 1. Some evidence is that in the first cup the jello started to separate and in cup one the jello did not separate.
    2. The one difference in both cups is that in cup 1 the jell started to separate and in cup 2 the jello did not separate. There was no change in cup 2.
    3. The coffee filter represented the bloodstream because the coffee filter was the onethat obsovered the nutrients. In cup 1 they reached the bloodstream.
    4. I think the food we eat is important that it gets digested because if the food did not get digested it would sit in the body forever and not be used.
    5. The food is digested in this system by going into the stomach then into the small intestine to absorb the nutrients then in the large intestine to finish the process. The type of digestion it is is when the nuttiness is absorbed into the bloodstream.
    6. I think you would might get a stomach ache if it just sits there. I think you would but wouldn't eat if you had a stomach ache. I do not think you would have lots of energy because you have a stomach ache. I do not think you would play well in a sport competition because your food would just sit in you stomach and create a stomach problem.

     Kid Vs Witch

What I think that will happen in the next book is Skalla turning into a evil witch again and trying to take over the world again. I think she will attack a different place were she thinks Thatcher, Trudy, and Shoal will not be able to stop her from taking over. Then they will get there in time and stop her and finish her off for real this time making sure she is gone.

                                     The Talking
    Hyena

I was walking with my friends down a trail in the middle of the forest dark at night. I stepped on something squishy I thought it was dog poop but no it was a sandwich with grey mold on it. Then I saw a big shape in the distance and it was a Hyena. I started to climb up the tree in horror. The Hyena started to talk to me and that was just more horror. The Hyena was saying “ I am so miserable just give me the sandwich.” I gave it the sandwich and ran for my life screaming.

    Breathing Through Straws

    Picture
    Picture
    1. What was the purpose of breathing through the straws?
    2. While breathing through the wide straw, were some of the activities more difficult to do than others? If so, which ones?
    3. How does your breathing change as you become more active? Why do these changes happen?
    4. Why do you think that breathing through the wide straw caused the effects that you described?
    5. Did breathing through the thin straw affect you differently than breathing through the wide straw? If so, explain why you think this occurred.
    6. Why do you think you were asked to breathe through the thin straw for 20 seconds instead of 1 minute?
    7. Why do you think you were not asked to walk or run while breathing through the thin straw?
    8. How would your daily life be affected if you could only breathe in small amounts of air with each breath?

    1. The purpose was to feel what it feels like if you were to have asthma or bronchitis. I think this could also be important because this could make people want to find a permanent cure for them.
    2. There was one that was more difficult and it was running in place. I think it was more difficult because it was involving more muscle movement.
    3. It changes by breathing heaver and faster. These changes happen because we need more oxygen to our muscles.
    4. I think it caused those effects because it was a lot harder t breath than normal. It was hard because I only got a minimal oxygen.
    5. Breathing throuh the thin straw did affect me differently . I think it affected me differently because I was breathing through a thinner straw than the wide straw.
    6. I think I was asked to breathe only for 20 seconds rather than a minute because the thin straw only let a tiny amount of oxygen in at a time.
    7. I think I was not asked to run or walk because I would a lot more oxygen than just sitting, and if sitting waas difficult for me and my partner than that would be very difficult.
    8. My daily life wold be effected because I would not be able to to the things I love and play or run and walk and I love to do all of those things.
