  • 1. Have you ever injured a joint? (Sprained ankle, dislocated shoulder, tennis elbow, etc.) How did it feel? What things were difficult to do after the injury?
  • 2. Which of their moveable joints would be the hardest to live without?
  • 3. What things would be difficult to do without that joint? Why?
  • 4. If you had to choose one of your moveable joints to live without, which one would it be? Why?
  • Is there any movement they could do without joints? (I can think of at least one.)
  • 1. No I have never injured a joint. I think it would feel like it would hurt and be weird for a while, but eventually you would get used to it.
    2.  The jaw would be the hardest joint to live without. It would be hard because you couldn't eat or drink and then eventually you would die because of not being able to do those things.
    3. Eating, drinking, and talking. They would be hard because if you weren't able to open your mouth you couldn't talk and eat or drink.
    4. Wrists because you can still pick up things. Also you can move your arms without wrists.
    5.  Yes you could move around. You could move around because you don't need to bend when you can keep your legs straight and walk like a penguin.

    Picture
    1. What five basic things do humans need in order survive?
    2. If we exert ourselves, what are three (or more) signs that our bodies are in distress? Explain why our body does that (research it if you need to).
    3. What can we do to make these signs go away?
    1. Sleep,Shelter,Food,Water, ans Oxygen.
    2. Very heavy breathing, When your heart is beating very fast, and your head pounding very hard. Your head pounds because your not getting blood to your head. Your heart starts beating really fast because it trying to work really hard.
    3. We can make these signs go away by: stop exercising, drink water, and relax for like 5 min..

    Observing and Describing an Apple

    Before
    Picture
    After
    Picture
    Notes
    ·     Thin vertical line in the middle that digs into the core of the apple
    ·     Inside the thin hole our little ridges
    ·     It smells sweet, but at the same time it smells sour
    ·     A little thin piece of apple is hanging over the hole
    ·     The stem starts out pointing straight up then it bends backward
    ·     The apple part feels like an ice rink. Very wet and if you were little you would feel that it is slippery
    ·     The skin feels very squishy, but it is not
    ·     Right under the top of the apple and a little bit on top of the bottom there is brown spots
    ·     When I put the toothpick in the hole apple sticks to it
    ·     At the top of the apple the skin is darkish red
    ·     The whole apple skin is very dark red
    ·     At the top of the apple there is a green spot near the stem
    ·     When you destroy the apple you can find a seed

    1. Why were you able to observe so many things about your apple today?
    2. Why is observation and description so important in science?
    3. Rank order the five senses in the order or your observations (i.e. which sense was used most, second most, etc
    1. I was able to see lots of things because we had a magnifying glass to see small things and a toothpick to pull things out. Also because it was only half an apple so you could see inside the apple.
    2. So you know what you are actually experimenting on better. Also because you can look back on what you wrote.
    3. Sight, touch, smell, hear, and taste.

Human body Pre- and Post- test

    1. What was the hardest part of this activity?
    2. Which organs do you think you put in the right places?
    3. Which organs do you think are probably in the wrong places?
    1. Figuring out what each organ does in the body. This was hard because some organs you didn't even know what they were so you just had to guess.
    2. The esophogus, the heart, the stomach, the pancreas, the gull bladder, the bladder, the large and small intestine, the brain, and the lungs.
    3. The trachea, the kidneys, the liver, the diaphargm, the pharnyx, the larnyx.

How Might Humans and Aliens Be Different?

    12/3/2014

    Humans
    Picture
Some ways humans have adapted are:
    1.  We have an organ system that digests are food so we can eat and get the nutrients we need.
    2. We have a heart that pumps blood to all the organs and muscles so they can work.
    3. We have lungs so we can breath, so we won't die.
    4. We have joints so we can move are arms and legs lots of different ways.
    5. We have a nose so we can smell stuff and breath to survive.
    6. We have eyes to see our surroundings.
    7. We have ears so we can hear what is going on around us.
    8. We have hands and feet to feel what is around us.
    9. We have a brain to control our body and tell them what to do.
    Aliens
    Picture
Some ways this alien has adapted to its planet are:
    1. This planet is wet and muddy so it has big hands with claws to dig into the ground and push forward.
    2. It uses its big eyes to see and its very big because it might get mud in it's eye so it needs to have lots of space not covered in mud so it can see.
    3. It has a big vacuum-like nose so it can suck up the rich nutrient mud to eat.
    4. It has the shell to protect it from the high gravity.
    • 1. Do we have cells similar to the aliens you created?  How or why not?
    • 2. Humans (and probably aliens) have cells that have special functions.  What are some of these cells and what organs and systems are they a part of?  Give at least three examples and be specific.  (Example: Osteoclasts are cells that make up spongy bone inside of many of our bones.  This is part of the skeletal system.)
    1. No because when you eat you usually have to grind your food down they eat mud so they don't have to grind down their food. Also they need to be heavy unlike people because they need to protect themselves from the high gravity.
    2. Heart cells help your heart which is an organ, Brain cells help your brain work, and shell cells to make the shell harder to make it more protective.
