"Do more Give me 5's if I see something wrong." - By Ben

Picture
What the goal means:
It means to do a give me five when you see something wrong like if there are lots of stuff on the ground. Or If the computers are sticky and also if you see some kids doing bad things.

Why this goal is important:
It is important Because if you don't do any thing about the bad things they could keep on happening and it would never stop.

Evidence that tells me that I was successful in meeting this goal:
  • I Have been doing more give me fives.
  • There have not been that much bad stuff at the end of the year then at the beginning.
  •  And I have been doing more give me fives to get ready for lunch then in the beginning of the year.

"Try not to get stressed about homework and maintain it." - By Harvey G.

What this goal means:
This goal means, when you get stressed about homework you're not doing it. So, I try not to get stressed about the amount of homework. When you're not getting stressed about homework then your doing your homework, not complaining. This goal also helps with the future because then you wouldn't get stressed in the future.
Why this goal is important:
This goal is important because it can save you from having a meltdown of stress in the future for example High School finals that can cause a lot of stress but if you prepare then it'll be easy for you. It's also important because it'll save teachers time because then they would have students that don't get stressed and they would have a good day. On days when I have a lot of homework and I don't get stressed I finish it quickly.

Evidence that I'm on the path to meeting this goal:
  • For example in the winter around December I remember a day when I had a lot of homework but I said to myself (instead of stressing) "I can do this" and I got it done within 50 min.
  • But because I was working hard during the winter I don't have much homework to do in the spring.
  • Time for kids got me stressed a lot (And I didn't get them finished) but I started to be more responsible and turned them in.

What the goal means:The goal means to talk more in Lit Circles to show that you understand the book. The goal means to talk a lot about what just happened on what the book is. The goal means to pay attention when your reading your book.
Why the goal is important:The goal is important because it shows Mr. Solarz that you are understanding the book. It shows that your saying stuff in videos so it means you under stand the book enough to say something in a video. That is why it is important to have this goal.

Evidence that tells me that I was successful in meeting this goal:
  • Saying more in Lit Circles videos.
  • Making sure I know what I am going to say before I start the video.
  • Figuring out what type of video it is going to be before we start.
  • Knowing when to talk more or less.

"Explain your thinking and the strategies used while making decisions." - By Kyren

6/7/2017

Picture
What the goal means:
What this goal means is that you should explain your thinking when you are taking a test or in a group. I also think this means that you should explain your thinking so others can get to know you better. I also think that this goal means that you should be able to explain why you did something.

Why the goal is important:
This goal is important because if you are on a test they might ask you to explain your thinking. It is important to learn how to explain your thinking because people can get to know you better if you can show your thinking. I also think that you should be able to show your thinking when you do homework.

Evidence that tells you that you was successful in meeting this goal:
  • In math tests I work to explain my thinking.
  • In my blog posts I explain my thinking by listing the reasons(in paragraph format) in reflection questions.
  • When making videos I explain my thinking in great detail.

"To be curious and creative." - By Chingoon

6/7/2017

Picture
What the goal means:
The goal means that a person should be curious and creative instead of blending in with others,  you should be different then the others and have a creative mind,  that is because of some teachers that get your kid curiosity out of your mind and makes you non creative.  Being creative is important for kids because if your not creative then the future would be the same for kids in school,  it would be worksheet on worksheet for school kids,  if you have a curiosity then school for kids in the future will be fun learning instead of having a same future the adult6s had and it would be very boring to learn and kids might have a higher influence on dropping out of school which is bad.

Why the goal is important:
The goal is important because if the future is the same as adults had with their past,  then kids will be very non curious and which if it is the same then kids will have bad learning experiences.  Curiosity is very important for having good futures and kids might have fun learning like we do in mr.solarz's class because we involve a lot of technology and our teacher uses 21 century skills which influences curiosity and which is important for people so that everyone thinks differently.

Evidence that tells me that I was successful in meeting this goal:
  • I am wondering on a drawing or design, then I make the design come true by having the design drawn on paper but it was made by my curiosity and creativeness.
  • I think differently then others by having a curious mind and thinking about how to stay curious for the rest of my life.
  • I design or invent unique things like I made a design of a person that looked very interesting and very creative because I used my imagination on the design and it turned out great!

"Keep a cool head in difficult situations." - By: Louisa F.

What the goal means:  In times when it's hard to keep control and stay calm, stay calm. Getting angry will only make whatever the problem, worse. This goal will help kids, like me, who act way before they start to think about what they are doing. This goal helped me improve by not being as reactive as I used to be. I'm still working on this goal, but I know that I can achieve it. If you are easily annoyed or angry easily, this would be a great goal for you. It's hard, but don't let the little things provoke you. This goal can help a lot of people avoid drama and getting into things that you don't need to get into. This goal means: when you are in a place that you don't want to be in, find a way out of it by calming down.

Why the goal is important: Drama can ruin a school year for anyone and everyone who participates in it. Most drama starts because of an overreaction or exaggeration. In order to avoid letting these things affect you or starting these things for others, you need to stay calm and proactive. Working on this goal and trying to achieve it can get you to remind yourself more often that what others do now won't matter in the long run, but what you do now might. This goal will help you avoid things that make you upset or uncomfortable, and spend more time doing things that make you happy. If everyone had this as a daily goal, the world might change.

"Wonder about things then do something about it." - By: Madison

6/7/2017

Picture
What the goal means: This goal means that when I wonder about something I have to ask questions or do something else about my wonders. I can look things up on the internet, ask questions or look in my books if it's in one. I also have to make sure that it's on task so the whole class doesn't get off task.

Why the goal is important: This goal is important because if I'm wondering about something important I should ask a question about it, or look it up online. Then I my questions get answered and I can move on with my thinking.

Evidence that tells you that you was successful in meeting this goal:
  • During We the People when I was wondering about things I either looked it up online or asked a question about it.
  • In math if I am wondering about a concept I will ask a question about it.
  • I ask questions during math if something doesn't make sense or if I am confused about something.

"Be focused and on task while transitioning." - Dylan B.

Picture
What the goal means:
The goal means to be a respectful leader and be on task at all times and use the 7 Habits while transitining. While doing this goal you are being a leader by putting first things first or putting things away and transitinioning to the next subject instead of wasting other peoples time by going slow to transtion.

 Why the goal is important:
The goal is important because it helps you practice the 7 Habits, and working together (if needed). This goal is also important cause later in your life if your slow in work, your probably going to get a strike because being fast helps with getting to meating haing enough time to get breakfast and other stuff that a human needs to have energy for the day.

Evidence that tells me I was succesful in this goal:
  • I am starting to get faster when transitioning.
  • I am using the 7 Habits to help me clean up before anything else.
  • I am being a respectful leader by heling others when needed.

" Have a repertor of stradgies if one is not working" - By: Michelle

6/7/2017

Picture
What the goal means: This goal means that if your trying to solve a problem and the strategy that you are using is not working you should probably switch stradgies because if one is not working than it probably wont work the whole time.

Why the goal is important: This goal is important because it teaches kids how to use multiply stradigies when working to try to solve problems. It also teaches kids how to be  creative problem solvers.

Evidence that shows that I was on the path towards meeting this goal:
  • If you see that one stradige is not working then you should switch stradigees.
  • If you see that someone is trying to solve a problem and its not working than you could go and help them, and give them some advice like if one stradigee is not working then try another one.

"When the class has a sub always exceed expectations." - by Anna

6/7/2017

What the goal means: This goal means that when a class has a sub, always go above and beyond to help the sub get through the day. You help with the sub plans and give them information if needed ( because we are a student - led class). You also always make sure others are being good leaders and followers. We are still a student led classroom unless if the sub plans say something else than go with the flow with the plans.
Why the goal is important: This goal is important because it helps you be a better leader and it will help you build character. You can also be better at giving feedback. Then you can be better or stronger at using life skills, and also being helpful or being kind to people. And you also are following rules better, so you aren't getting in trouble.
Evidence that tells you that you was successful in meeting this goal:
  • I am learning to be more kind and helpful to the sub.
  • Now I am using my feedback and helping the sub better.
  • I am also not getting in trouble because I am following rules better.

What the goal means: This goal means that you try to keep your desk as clean as possible. With no loose papers that are just in your desk and they are from months ago. In our class our desk has to close or else you have to stay in for a lunch recess on a nice day. Just try to make sure to use folders. It also means that you should be able to get all of your materials so then if you do need them they are easy to get in only a few minutes.

Why the goal is important: It is important because then your desk is always neat and organized even if it is hard with all the things you might have. It is also important because then you can always get everything you need out of your desk in a quick way that will take little time. Also then you will never loose anything that is the bottom of the desk.

Evidence that shows that I was on the path towards meeting this goal:
  • When there is not any loose papers in your desk like I start putting more and more papers in my folders to keep it more neat.
  • That your desk will close every time like when I put my math back in my desk it closes with no problem but it used to be a little harder the first month or two just because I wasn't as used to having so many things in one desk.
  • If you can get your things with no trouble then it is a good thing like if you can get all your math stuff quickly without digging through your desk trying to find things like you calculator or ruler.
  • When you clean out your desk you don't find things you have been looking for a long time like a book or a pencil or pen.

What the goal means: You  can use your peers strengths to accomplish a goal you have been working on for a while or for a very short time! Like, Once I had a goal to try and turn in my homework by the time its due and so I asked my peer and they helped me accomplish my goal and make a new friend!
Picture
Why the goal is important:   Its important because if you ALWAYS try to accomplish goals be yourself then you might might not be able to accomplish some. It is also important because it helps you make new friends and you will be able to accomplish more with your new friends by your side!
Evidence that tells you that you was successful in meeting this goal:
  • You start to improve on accomplishing new goals. I used to do around one goal sheet a month and after I had accomplished this goal, I normally do at least two a month and I have gained a new best friend!
  • You know that you are becoming a better peer when people start to ask you to help them accomplish your goals.
  • You are making new goals all of the time.

"Try and not space out as much" - Jack

Picture
What the goal means: Sometimes I space out which is like daydreaming, so I made this goal so that way that stops. That makes it so I pay more attention and learn more in class. I also get to be more active then just staring into space.

Why the goal is important: I get to pay more attention into class, learn more, and be more active. That's important because paying attention in class I get to be more creative and curious. Learning is important because when you know more, you are more wise. And being active keeps you healthy.

Evidence that tells me that I was successful in meeting this goal:
  • I've been using fidgets to keep focused.
  • I've been looking around instead of staring.
  • I've been being more active which helps me not space out.
  • I have a trigger to be aware.

"Understand that there are multiple correct ways to solve a problem." - Hailie

What the goal means: This goal is a really good goal to have if you aren't that good at it. There are alway gonna be something that have multiple ways to solve it and some don't. But for the ones that do It is good to take a little bit of time to just think about it and see if there is a different way to solve the problem. It is a good skill to have in life because it might be a better way to do it.

Why is the goal important: This goal is important because it will be helpful in life too. If you take a little bit of time to think about it and see if there is a different way to solve the problem. This will be helpful because you can also be checking your work to make sure that all of the different ways you tried solving it is correct because if it is a math problem and there are different ways to solve the math problem it will also be helpful checking to make sure that all of the ways that I tried are correct.

Evidence that tells me that I was successful in meeting this goal: Evidence that shows that I have met this goal is is when I am in math or in any other subject I try and figure out and just take a second to think about if there is any other correct way to solve a problem. It would also be helpful to while you are doing that make sure that all of the answers you got you double checked to make sure that they are all correct. I just will make sure that every time I do it I try to figure out different ways. When I am in a group even if other people get a different answer it will be just as good as mine.

"Make sure to speak more in Literature Circle videos." By: Elijah

What the goal means:

This goal means that if I am in a lit circle discussion video with my partner I would talk more instead of just letting my partner do all of the talking for me. I will now talk more in lit circle discussion videos because of this goal, and not make my partner do everything for me, and me not even saying anything the whole entire time.

Why the goal is important

This goal is important because it tells me to talk more and I would talk more instead of just letting my partner do all of the talking for me. I will also do the summaries, but that is not what i'm talking about right now in this blog post.
Picture

Evidence that tells me that I was successful in meeting this goal:

Some evidence that I have for me working towards meeting my goal of talking more in my lit circle videos is that I sometimes talk more than the other partner in my group like when I onetime reversed my goal around and I talked more than my partner so that was good. I also was working towards this at home videos that I make at my house.

"Let others in the class step up and do give me fives." - Charles S.

What the goal means:
This goal means that when we do give me fives in our class, we don't just have one person always doing them it is a different people at different times. Give me fives are special to our class it is when we have something that we need to give out to the whole class we say give me five and everyone listens to you and stops what they are doing.

Why the goal is important:
This goal is important because if we just have one leader in the class then we could not run the class and if that one leader does not remember to do a give me five, who is going to do it. It also is important because later in life you are going to be denied by lots of jobs if you do not know how to lead then you can not work with lots of people.

Evidence that tells me that I was successful in meeting this goal:
  • That I have been doing fewer give me fives in class to let others do them.
  • I have reminded some people to do give me fives.
  • I have been listening to peoples give me fives.
  • When in the line going to a different room I have not been doing the give me fives for Wildly Important Goal.

"View failure as a opportunity to learn and grow." - Cole

What the goal means: The goal means that when I do not succeed I will not give up and learn and reflect on what I did wrong. Then I will see what I can do in the future so that next time I will do better but,  even if i don't I will keep learning from my mistakes.

Why is this goal important?: This goal is important because if I never learned from my mistakes and always just gave up I would almost never learn anything new. This is because I hardly ever learn something and get it right on the first try. So if I didn't learn this goal I would have a really hard time learning or doing anything new.

Evidence that tells me I was successful in meeting this goal: I was successful in meeting this goal because I am reflecting on my failures and trying to fix my mistakes so I will learn what I am trying to learn. I am now being persistent with whatever I am trying to do and most of the time I end up succeeding. For example when I was little I was really shy and didn't like talking but I knew that I needed to talk so I kept trying and now I like to talk to people and am not shy anymore.

"Go Beyond the Minimum." By: Charlie

Picture
What the goal means: The goal means to not just do what the minimum is, but to do extra and give examples.  Also, even if you succeed go even further until you can't go anymore.

Why the goal is important: This goal is important because when you are an adult, if you need to do a lot for an assignment in work (or collage) and you are used to doing the minimum, it will be really hard.  But if you are used to writing a lot or doing a lot, the assignment will be easier.

Evidence that tells me that I was successful in meeting this goal:
  • I wrote as much as I could in a problem in my blog.
  • I  gave extra examples in a problem in math.
  • For a math problem, I tried to write as much as possible in one problem and be as specific as I could.
  • For a math problem, I tried to have it like if someone who didn't know what I was talking about before, they would get what I was talking about when they were reading it.

''Take innovations to the public.'' - Jody B.

What the goal means:   The goal means to not be afraid of things and to let loose and show people the cool thing you made or the cool thing you worked on so that everyone can see wow they did that and then those people try to do what you did and they can tell others about what you did.

Why the goal is important:     This goal is important because kids and adults won't be afraid to come out of their shell and show all the cool things that they have done. This will help kids for when they are older and this will help adults teach their kids or grandkids.

Evidence that tells you that you was successful in meeting this goal:
  • I went to a science fair and almost won! I was the only one who showed up from my school.
  • I taught others about things that I have made so they can try to make it.
  • Jack has had ideas and he has showed the innovation to his friends and then he showed a lot of people and they liked what he had to say.

"Use good speech sounds throughout my day (when making videos and participating in class)." - Abby R.

What the goal means:
It means that when I am talking (making a video or to someone directly), I need to have a strong "R." I don't want people to think that it wasn't the right word. If the person doesn't understand me and it was important, they wouldn't know what the word was. I need people to understand me because it was hard when people asked me to explain when I meant. I also need to stop myself when it isn't strong and to stop myself when it doesn't sound right.
Why the goal is important:
It is important because I need people to understand me and for me not to have to explain what I just said. I also need to stop myself when it doesn't sound right. If it doesn't sound right, I need to say it again. I don't want people to ask me, what do you mean because I didn't use my correct sounds. I also need to learn how to do them because then, I don't always have to talk slow or read slow even though it is better for me.

Evidence that shows that I was on the path towards meeting this goal:
  • Getting better at the "R" sound.
  • Getting better grades.
  • Easier to do the "R" sound.
  • People understand me easier.

"Leverage strengths of others to accomplish a common goal." - By Sam T.

Picture
What the goal means: This goal means to use the strengths of other kids to accomplish a goal. Everyone has different strengths. If we use those strengths the correct way, we will work fluently and effectively as a group. It will help us get to the goal faster. In the future, when we work, we would need to work together to get things done.

Why the goal is important: This goal is important to get used to this in the future. It is practice so we can learn from our mistakes and can put them to use. In almost every job there is some working together involved. And everyone has different strengths. This is a very valuable skill to have in life. If you didn't have this skill, then you wouldn't get as much work done as a group.

Evidence that tells me that I was successful in meeting this goal:
  • During Lit Circles our group finds the best job for everyone so we could work ore effectively.
  • During committee work in colonizing mars, we took the strengths of our group members to get all of the problems solved.
  • During passion time when my partner and I were working on our final slideshow we made a plan to get the work done quickly and effectively.
  • During ecosystems when we were writing about the ecosystem, we were using each other's' strengths to get the work done.

"Study for my math tests a couple nights before the test, and look over my old homework." - By: Madison

6/7/2017

Picture
What the goal means: This goal means that I should study for my math tests a couple of nights before we have the test, and look over my old homework when I get it back. Then I can make sure I understand everything before we take the test to get the best grade I can possibly get. If I don't understand everything I can ask for help to make sure that I understand everything that is going to be on the test.

Why the goal is important: This goal is important because I want the best grade that I can get on my math test. If I study really hard I can achieve this goal and hopefully do really well on my test. Looking over my old homework will make sure that I understand the problems that I got wrong on my homework, and make sure that I will prevent those mistakes in the future.

Evidence that shows that I was on the path towards meeting this goal:
  • I looked at my old homework that got handed back and made sure that I understood everything that I got wrong.
  • I studied the example pages that went with that unit, so that I was really comfortable with all of the concepts.
  • My test might be next week on Tuesday, and I have been looking over my old homework and the past example pages.
  • My test was yesterday and I feel pretty confident!
  • I got my test back and I got a B+ .

"Listen to all directions without any distractions." - By: Daniel

What the goal means: This goal means to be on task and focused when someone is giving directions such as your boss, parents or a teacher. You have to be focused on the directions on what the topic is about, and so then you can know what the directions are so you don't mess up a big part.

Why the goal is important: This goal is important, because if you have trouble with it right now and don't fix it in the future, you might just get fired because you didn't listen to your boss and you messed up a project big time. This is also important to learn because you can always stay focused and not confused when you start homeowrk or whatever the teacher said to do.

Evidence that tells me that I was successful in meeting this goal:
  • I haven't been distracted at all since I wrote this goal!
  • I was doing good with fidgets like rubber band and it helped me focused and I haven't been distracted yet.
  • I have met my goal and still haven't been distracted yet (if I did, I didn't know probably and it was most likely very minor).

"Make sure all the cords and computers are in the cart." - By Connor

Picture
What the goal means:To make sure that the computer cart is put away correctly as in all the computers are put in the right spot, we have all the computers, and the computers are all plugged in. It means that the computer cart should look the same as it was or better than it was before. That way we know how good or bad we did without help from whoever's job it was. That is what the goal means.

Why the goal is important:It is important because the goal makes sure that the computers don't get broken or the cords get broken. The goal is important so that we don't need to replace the computers and cords every year. The goal is important because it makes sure that we have computers all year and the next year. That is why the goal is important.

Evidence that shows that I was on the path towards meeting this goal:
  • The computer cart is good.
  • Checking on the cart more often.
  • Making sure were not missing the computers.
  • Checking to make sure all the computers are plugged in each day we have them.
  • Making sure the computer cart  is plugged in and the surge protecter is on so the computers charge.

"To learn continuously without stopping." - Cole

Picture
What the goal means: The goal means that I should always be learning something and expanding my knowledge because there is new things to learn or get better at in every situation and if I can do this I can learn lots more about so many things even if it is just learning how to do something new.

Why is this goal important?: It is important because if I stop learning outside of school I will never learn the important skills that they don't teach in school. Because of this when I grow up I may struggle with lots of things because I stopped learning, so that is why it is very important to learn all the time.

Evidence that tells me I was successful in meeting this goal: I know I was successful in meeting this goal because I am always trying to learn and see what I should know and what may help me in the future and then I try to learn those skills. I am also not just learning skills that will help me later in life but skills that will help me now with normal situations, and I am also learning things that are useful and fun. For example I have learned better quicker ways to do chores like I learned how to fold clothes much faster which saved me a lot of time.
