Lesson 1: What is an Ecosystem?

1. What do living things get from their ecosystems?
2. What evidence do you have to support your answer to Question 1?
3. What does the term ecosystem mean, based on your experience in this lesson? (Don't use the definition from the BIG IDEA here. Put it into your own words.)
4. Brainstorm at least one question you have about Ecosystems that you hope you learn from this unit.
5. Look at the image below that shows a portion of a forest ecosystem. Name at least five components (living or non-living things) of the ecosystem that you can either observe directly or infer. 
6. What are three (or more) interactions that might occur in this portion of the forest ecosystem?

Answers:

1. Living things get their food from ecosystems, and their water.   These are all really important things that the animals need to survive. 
2. The evidence I have is the picture above. The picture above shows the worms ecosystem, where their food which is the dirt and the flowers and they get their water from when  the soil get watered or when it rains. 
3. A system where living things live and they interact with each other and where they can interact with the things around them.
4. One question I have for ecosystems is.... How many different types of ecosystem's are there in the world? I really want to find this out during this unit because I have always wondered how many different types of ecosystems there are in the world.  
5. The image shows trees, deer, grass, rocks, and dirt.These are the things I can infer and observe about the picture that was below all of these questions.
6. The deer can eat the grass, the tree can use capillary action to get the nutrients and water from the soil, and the deer can drink the water.
