How do special effects and green screen technology work? By: Stephen and Ryan

What do we know?

We know that special effects are used in movies to make the character look like they are some type of zombie or some type of monster. They could also use a fog machine or a strobe light to make a outdoors scary theme. With a green screen you are able to put any image or video on a green screen to make a seem like you are somewhere when you really aren't.

What did we learn?

i used to not know how green screens and special FX and now i know all about it and it could be very helpful in the real world

How will I learn the information?

We will learn the information by making videos with a green screen and using different websites to get facts.

What action did we take?

we made a website sevreal videos and talked with people in and out of school i loved this expriance

What do we want to know?

We want to know how they pull of all of the amazing special effects like how they make someone a monster. We also want to know how much green screen and how much equipment they need make the green screen work with all of the amazing pictures and videos.

if you can do it with differnt collored screens and if special efects can get rid of your limbs ext. in moives

Reflection: in this progect i learned how green screens work and special FX its been great working with my partner and all thew things i can use in the real world if i want to make some videos i like some of the pros and cons in green screens like how there expencive and how they help movies special effects can also help movies and the stars makeup so they can custmise there person i would recamend this project to olthers.

In this project I think it was really fun to learn how green screens and special effects work. It has been really fun working with my partner because we worked well together and we both knew what we were doing with green screens and fx. It was really fun to make different videos with the green screens and use the strobe light to make a really cool video. It was kind of hard to make the final green screen video and make it on I movie.

What do I know?

Cars are really hard to draw if there supposed to be realistic.

What did I learn?

I learned that it is not to hard to draw a car. That drawing cars is very fun.That I am a good artist even if I traced them.

What do I want to know?

If I can easily draw a sports car when I am done with this project.

What action did we take?

I Drew a lot traced and made this video above.It was really fun how I got to show people how to draw cars.I loved how I got to draw what I loved.

How will I get the information?

How to draw books and tutorials on you tube and my brain.

What questions do I still have?

1.Can people who are artist draw really fast and can I do that.
2.Is there a more efficient/easier way to draw cars .

Reflection

This was a very fun project and I loved how Ben could help me at any given time and we could just talk cars/what I should draw and it was awesome. But I didn't like that it took me so long to make a car so my goal is to be faster at drawing. If you practice you can draw any thing easily without tracing without pictures just a pencil and paper! I believe that did I did a nice job.

How Have Tanks Evolved Over The Years? By: Matthew

What do I Know?

I know that previous tanks have been fast but Germans tanks have been some of the best tanks. Take the Tiger II for example (Tank in the upper left) that tank was in World War II that had thick armor a good gun and pretty good speed for a tank with that amount of armor. Or the Maus some of it's armor is more than a foot thick and it's thinnest armor is more than a inch thick. It has a good gun too, because it's long and it's very strong. American tanks were not always on the top of the list, but now America's tank's are close or at the top of the list. Some of British's tanks have been fast and have a good gun like the Crusader, it's fast and can fire multiple bullets at once, or you can take the Matilda for example it has good armor against certain bullets. The tanks from Russia are fast and some of them have good armor and some of the slower tanks have better guns. Some tanks are designed for different thing like some tanks can carry bridges and put them over obstacles that tanks can't get over, or some of them are designed to carry troops, others are designed for combat, and other are designed to go in water.

What did I Learn?

I learned that Russia made a tank that could be dropped out of a plane, the fastest tank ever was the S 2000 Scorpion Peacekeeper.

What do I Want to Know?

I want to know the statistics of old tanks and new tanks and compare them scientifically to figure out witch one is better.

What Action did I Take?

I made a website about it I also went on youtube and I also looked up images on it.

How Will I Learn the Information?

I will learn the information by going on YouTube and go to a park where they have live tanks to climb on and go on websites.

What Questions do I Still Have?

I still want to know what it was like inside the tank and how it was like to live on one. I also want to know how much a tank armor can with stand.

Reflection: I liked this project because it was fun and I was interested in the project, and it was fun learning all the statistics of them I also liked learning about the tanks in different countries. The hard part was finding the sats about them, it was also hard finding the right information for the tank and finding the right tank. I thought the website was was fun, but it was hard to get all the information. But overall it was fun.

What do we know?

I know that the brain works really hard to keep us alive and thinking everyday.
The brain is a really important part of our body and really interesting to learn about.
It also has different parts.

What did we learn?

I learned so much about the different medical conditions! I learned about concussions, migraines, brain aneurysm, and stroke. I also learned how to prevent them, warnings that you get before them, and what they are! It was very interesting to learn about these even though it was a bit weird and kind of complicated. It was so much fun!

What do we want to know?

I want to know about the brain in the human body and what happens when you have different medical conditions like a migraine, aneurysm, concussion, and stroke. It would be really interesting to learn about this.

What action did we take?

I will share my website and my video with my family members and my friends. I hope they will enjoy it and learn something from it. It was extremely fun to do and if I had more time, I would find another medical condition to do!

How will I learn the information?

I will find my information by asking my grandma because she is a chemist and see what she knows, asking my mom because she is a pharmacist and see what she knows, look in different books, and research online.

Reflection:

I absolutely loved this topic. It wasn't boring to me at all and it was so much fun to do. Every time passion time came up, I was so excited to start working and getting things done. This passion time project was very interesting. It was about the brain and what happens inside it. I learned about migraines, concussions, brain aneurysm, and stroke. I also learned how to prevent them and warnings that you get before them and what they are. Now, when any of my family members have any of these medical conditions, I can tell them what they are, how to prevent them, and warnings that you get before them.

What do I Know?

Some English roots are Greek and Latin. English and Spanish are very similar and so is Latin; if you look at a Latin sentence you will find similarities with English words. People came over from Britain and were the ones who won the land; they already spoke English.

What did I learn?

I learned every thing in my video. I also learned that there is NOT a lot of information on this topic on the internet. I didn't know what a linguist is. But is not that complicated just someone who is informed and knows about foreign languages. I also didn't know that there was an old English, and middle English. I thought there would just be blank English and modern English.

What do I Want to Know?

My essential question. If this is an often asked subject, so will it be easy to find information on or will I have trouble finding information on my topic? Will there be a lot of information on trustworthy sights?

What Action Did I Take?

I made a video explaining what I learned, my sources and notes about how I found this information. I uploaded my video to Youtube.

How will I Learn the Information?

I will learn what I can from my Caesars English book. I will also see what my dictionary has to offer. And finally I will use the internet and books.

What Questions do I Still Have?

I wonder why I could only find information on some websites because I found the things I wanted but on a limited amount of websites so I am wondering why. The information is out so why would it not on the web. I also am wondering if middle english changed by people just speaking less formal because we don't speak that formal.

Reflection:

This was a hard but worth it project. There were not a lot of trustworthy websites that I found. But I did find some good sources that really helped. I think that they already got all the information they could because you can't learn a lot about of a dead language with barely any recorded records. I did enjoy this very much and think that this was a fun topic to learn about because I knew barely anything about topic; but really am interested in it. So over all this was a fun passion project.

A lot of snakes are poisonous.
There are poisonous frogs.
poison can kill somebody.
Poison can sometimes take a while to get into your system.
Poison can be different colors.

What did we learn?

A bunch of new facts about a bunch of new animals.
The island Taipan snake is the most venomous snake in the wild.
The Komodo dragon was very poisonous.
A specific kind of snake can resist a poison dart frog.
We didn't know that (at max) an 8 inch octopus could be.
A box jellyfish can kill 60 adults in less than 3 minutes.
The deathstalker scorpion needs at least a 75ºF
There is a poisonous bird called a hooded pitohuis.

JJ Reflection:

This was a very fun project, I was better having a partner because I got clarification on stuff I didn’t know and got help typing and researching. One hard thing was that halfway through, we looked at are essential question and decided we were doing the wrong thing. A good was having a partner to research or type while I was fixing something on our slide or blog post. Sometimes we got of task but when we did we went straight back into serious mode. I had a lot of fun researching poisonous animals, there were so much cool stuff that I learned

Alex Reflection: I really enjoyed doing the project with my partner because it was a lot more easy because I could tell him what to type and I could be on the site I got it from. He would just be typing it on the google slide. Something that was hard was that the essential question we had wasn’t the same as what we were doing because we were looking up facts about the poisonous animals not telling how they used their poison. Sometimes we got a little off task and we got back on task quickly. I also found some really interesting facts on all of the different poisonous animals like I didn’t know that

a specific kind of snake can resist a poison dart frog.

Can I Recreate An Iconic Painting Using Oil Pastel? Giuliana

What Do I KNOW?

Oil Pastel is a type of crayon that spreads and mixes easily. Most people use it for shading and blending colors. The painting I will recreate is called Marylin Monroe Pop Art, By Andy Warhol. It was made in 1962 by using a picture of Marylin Monroe and changing the colors. Andy Warhol made pop art popular and made many of them.

What Did I LEARN?

In 1921, Sakura Crayon Company created a crayon that was brighter that regular ones. It was something that was intended for kids, not for the serious artist. In 1947, artists Pablo Picasso and Henri Goetz asked Sakura Crayon Company to create an upgraded version of this bright crayon that can be used on many surfaces and would help start oil paintings. With the help of the two artists, Sakura Crayon Company released the first professional oil pastel. Oil pastel isn't great for filling in small spaces due to the wide tip and that it smears. I also learned through firsthand experience that when you have to start over, you can't freak out. Freaking out would have only taken away any hope that I would finish with a great product. Instead of regretting a mistake, I learned from it, knowing that when I restart I won't redo that mistake. After this project, I now fully understand "trial and error."

What Do I WANT to Know?

Along with learning a bit more about the actual picture, I want to learn what are the best and worst ways to use oil pastels, like how to prevent the colors from smearing. I also want to learn the origins of oil pastel and where it came from.

What ACTION Did I Take?

I recreated Marylin Monroe Pop Art with oil pastel and made a time lapse video of me coloring it in.

HOW Will I Learn This?

By doing some extra research and learning from actually recreating the picture.

What QUESTIONS Do I Still Have?

I wonder if I had more time, would I be able to make my result more detailed? If I used a different technique to color in my painting, would my result be better?

Reflection

I underestimated this passion time project. I was actually thinking that I should do more than one work of art. I didn't know that I would have to restart twice, and that just drawing Marylin Monroe with pencil would take a whole hour. Every time I screwed up on coloring her, I wanted to scream. Although I was utterly disappointed, I learned to stay calm and start again. Being angry wouldn't benefit me in any way. Overall, I learned more about controlling my anger and starting over than

Can We Perform (A Mid Summer Nights Dream) With Only Two Actors And Can We Do Character Analysis? By: Addie and Addy

What do I KNOW already?

We know basically the whole story line of the play and the characters which we definitely have our opinions about. We know their personalities which will be awesome in the character analysis
and will help us bring the characters to life. We already have performed this play giving us great knowledge and insight on how to this play wonderfully but some trouble might come with only having two performers.

What did we LEARN?

We learned a lot more about the characters in the play! Acting their parts out really let us get to know the characters more! The most important thing we learned was time management! We took on such a huge project that at one point seemed like we weren't going to finish, but we worked really hard and went to every homework club to finish it! We will not take on such big projects in the future!

What do I WANT to know?

We want to know if we can accomplish putting on this difficult and long play in a timely fashion and execute it professionally. We would also like to know more about the characters and get to know them better.

What ACTION did we take?

We videotaped a play that we acted in and we did character analysis' on the characters! We also took on a huge project!

HOW will I learn this information?

We will learn this by putting on the play and evaluating our overall performance skill. We will also learn from our character analysis from which we will know them better.

What QUESTIONS do we still have?

Do we think we could do this better if we did it again?
Did we do our best at all times?

Addie's Reflection:
The hardest part of this project was trying to manage our time and finish our project on time. Another difficulty we had to overcome was the fact that we were experiencing technical difficulties with iMovie. Even with our setbacks we still had tons of fun. I think the effort put into it (practically every homework club!) was definitely worth it and I think that we learned a lot despite the fact it wasn't a research project. One of the super fun parts was that we got to wear tons of costumes and use funny voices. I think that when you play a character like we did you really get attached and I am going to miss playing Bottom (watch our video above to see what I'm talking about.) We collaborated really well and were there for each other when the other one was were frustrated. If I could work with Addy on another passion time project I most certainly would. Overall I just think this was a great experience and I think that the lesson we learned about how big of a project we took on was very valuable and we will carry it with us on to future projects.

Addy's Reflection:
The hardest part of this project was probably finishing the whole thing! We had to work really hard and long to actually finish the play! We had to go to every homework club we could and work on it! Something that was also hard was getting the videos onto Imovie! We finally just started to videotape on camera because of technology problems! The best part of this project was probably the costumes! We really had fun dressing up and saying our lines together! I also rally loved getting to know the character better! I really loved how Addie and I collaborated so well! We always helped each other and made the other laugh! I really wish we could do another project together because we know each other so well after doing this play together! I really can't believe we did it and can't wait to do another amazing project!

What shooting and ball handling skills can I teach to others to make them better basketball players? Cassidy

What do I KNOW?

I know that shooting and ball handling helps you get open in any sort of basketball game. I also know that when you shoot a basket you have to wave good-bye to the ball and aim for the middle of the rim. When try a different basketball move in a real game you could make a defender fall or fake them out big time.

What did I Learn?

I learned that in order to become a better basketball player it is easier to teach it to others to become better at it. I also learned that some coaches have way different styles of coaching and some have similar ways, but most are way different. One of the ways of the coaching is to be very hard but give them good advise in the end. During this project I learned that when you teach people the things that you know you feel good about yourself. I found many good basketball player video's ,but there were some that were 11,12, and 6 year old's. That is when I realized and learned that you can become the best player with just a little bit of practice.

What do I WANT to know?

I want to know how to be able to teach basketball and how I could help people with showing them my moves. I want to able to teach people how to do the hardest things in basketball that I know. I also wan to learn how to do some moves my self. I want to know how some coaches coach differently then other coaches.

What Action did I take?

I made video's of me doing basketball moves. I made video's of me teaching people how to shoot lay-ups and how to shoot the ball properly. When I was doing those video's I tried to show as much as could with doing the right thing and not messing up. When I was getting the video's of good basketball players I kept looking into what good players I could find and I actually got to players my age which I was really proud of.

HOW will I find out?

I will make videos of me doing moves. I will also take advise from coaches online and try to get smarter about basketball. Then I will put video's of NBA basketball players playing at there best. I will also make video's of me shooting and i will try to teach people the best I can.

What Questions Do I Still Have?

I still wonder what kind of hard moves I could of taught other people? I also have wondered what kind of basketball players people should want to become?

Refection:
I loved doing this project because I got to teach other people the sport that I love and I had a lot of fun video taping. When I was doing the video's of me shooting and doing moves I had so much fun because I was at school and playing basketball. When I was shooting my first video I was really excited and scared. When I started that video ( doing my moves) I was a bit nervous because that is not my strong spot in basketball. I had a hard time with all of my video's because sometimes they got deleted or were not uploading and when I would try to upload them to YouTube when I would try to type it would not let me and I had to wait for a long time to figure out what was wrong which would waste a lot of time. Even though I had a lot of trouble with video's there were a lot of things that were easy. For example, since I play basketball this project was easy because I just did what I do at practice. I loved doing this project!

What do I Know?

How will I learn the Information?

I know that sports and exercise are good for your body. It helps you by when you exercise you are burning fat and building muscles which are 2 great things to do. But I also know that while you are exercising or doing sports you tighten your muscles. While this is happening you can put a muscle or even more seriously snap a muscle. I also know that people like to play sports because they know that they are getting stronger and better at whatever they are doing.

I want to know how you build muscles while you are exercising or doing sports. I am really curious on how the muscles form. Do they just come out thin are? How can you "build" muscles? Do dells help form them? If you don't exercise for a while and you lose muscles what happens to them? Do they turn into fat? Is that why when you don't lift weights, or whatever, your triceps turn flabby?

I will look at websites that talk about health and fitness. That will show what can happen to your body when you play sports. I will also use a lot my background knowledge, knowing that I have a lot. I might even ask some friends, that I know are serious in sports. I will ask them if they have had any injuries that are still make them a little "rickety" in areas. Like if their knee pops from falling on it or your ankle hurts still from a sprain. They will warn me about injuries (like I have had before) and I will write what they said on my website.

I learned that there are so many ways that sports can effect your body in good ways and bad ways. For example you can break a leg. Or a good thing would be to make a new friend or learn something new in that sport. I personally think that sports are really rewarding when something good turns out of them. Like when I learn a new move I get really happy. I also learned that if you think that when you are the only one that is injured, don't worry you are not alone. Think of all the other famous athletes with so many injuries and he/she has to sit on the sidelines when they don't want to. Think of Derek Rose!

The action that I took was I told people, who read my website, that they have to be aware of all the things that could possibly hurt them. Like a broken arm, a sprained ankle, and much, much more. I think that it is also cool how MANY things can hurt you. Some are minor and some are major. That is technically what I made my website for too. To remind people that sports can be dangerous but they can be really fun too!

Some questions that I still have are what happens when you get hurt and you can't heal? What will you do to stay in shape? Eat healthier? What if you get so unhealthy that one day you "pop"? What if when you don't like sports anymore and you have nothing to do in your spare time? Sit around and watch t.v.? That sounds like a boring life to me!

Reflection:
I really liked doing this passion time project because I got to figure out what can happen to your body when you might hurt it during playing sports. It was fun when I got to see different opinions of people on different websites. They were all a bit different, and that was what really cool about it. I also got to ask one of my friends about her experiences on injuries. She plays basketball and soccer and she messed up her left knee and right ankle. These were in basketball and soccer. Her knee pops when she straightens it out all the way. This is just showing the bad side of sports. The good side of sports is pretty much everything else. I mean that sports really are fun for most people. I really liked doing this topic because sports and exercise interest me a lot. It has been really fun!
