Muscular System

Notes:

Muscles always work in pairs.
Muscles never push they only pull or contract.
One muscle must relax to let the other one pull.

What was hard for you during this activity?
What was fun?
Explain how your biceps and triceps work to bend your arm at the elbow. Use the following words in your answer:
1. biceps & triceps
2. contract & relax
3. cartilage
4. ligaments
5. tendons
6. humerus & ulna/radius

Answers:

It was hard for me because of restrictions for touching the elbow and talking to each other. another reason is that we had trouble coming up with and executing ideas.
It was fun because of all of the different things we had use and requirements we had to meet. Also it was fun to experiment with how to complete requirements.
Biceps and triceps work together to make your elbow move. Cartilage helps this process because without it our bones would rub together and it would be painful. Ligaments hold the humerus ulna and radius. The way the elbow actually is moved by is the contracting and relaxing of muscles and tendons.

Which product or company are you most excited about doing? Why?
Why product of company do you think will make the most money for us? Why?

Which products or companies should we get rid of? Why?

Answers:

Concession stand because it will be fun to make food. Also it would make quite a bit of money.
Creating g a new sport as long as it's fun. It would make a lot of money because if it's fun kids will by our gear and word will spread to more people.
Hydroponic gardening because it sounds interesting. Another thing would be creating a sport because we would have to test it and make it fun.
Creating stamps because it would just take forever to make a stamp. Another reason is that we would go out of business quickly because we wouldn't make enough stamps.

Answers:

How close I was to the class average. Also that necks one of the least important on the class average.
Wrists at the bottom because without them life wouldn't very much different. Another thing is the hips because moving would be very awkward with out hips.
Hips because moving would be very awkward with out hips. Another reason would be is that everyone would be that every one wold either jump around or do the crab to get around.
Wrists because without them life wouldn't very much different. Another reason is that you could still easily write and type.

Where do Bones Move?

What do bones do?

Bones help you stand.
They keep your organs safe.
They let us move a muscle

What is a joint?

A joint is a place where bones meet and are able to move.
Bones only move at joints.
You can't move at joints.

How did Jeremiah get up?

He heard the branch cracking and his senses shouted Danger.
His brain told his muscles to move.
Muscles responded and made him move.

Notes:

Ligaments hold bones together.
Pivet joints are in your wrists, ankles, and neck.
Cartelidge goes in between joint bones.

How Do We Move

What three basic things do our bodies need in order survive?
If we exert ourselves, what are three (or more) signs that our bodies are in distress? Explain why our body does that (research it if you need to).
What can we do to make these signs go away?

Food,water, and shelter
We pant because our body is trying to get more air. We get a hot and a red face because our blood makes effort to move the heat your body is generating to the skin's surface, where it can be radiated off.
We can rest and stop exercising for a little while.

Observing and Describing an Apple

Smells good
Lopsided
Multiple seeds
Three lumps on the bottom
Juicy to the touch
Green lines
Stem line goes all the way through
Seed areas are hard and shiny
Little white and black dots on the outside
The inside of the seed is white
Fuzzy at the top and bottom area of the stem
Seeds are smooth and brown
Seeds are connected to the grown apple
Squishy
Outside is red and yellow
The toothpick makes juice come out
The inside is easier to poke than the outside

Why were you able to observe so many things about your apple today?
Why is observation and description so important in science?
Rank order the five senses in the order or your observations (i.e. which sense was used most, second most, etc.).

I could observe this much because we had a long time and tools. The tools were a toothpick and magnifying glass.
It's important in notes because you can't remember all the details. It also makes it easier to repeat an experiment.

Poor house and family.
A long time ago.
Goes to school with boys.
Trying to teach each other.
Jewish religion.
Not in America.
Lives with Grandmother.
Jessie has to sew in America.
Going to America is a big deal.
I think Jessie is about 12.
Jessie is afraid.
Clothes and laces for warmth.
Jessie gave Grandmother her mother's wedding ring.
Jessie is sad, sick.
Everyone on the ship is happy because it stopped storming.
Jessie meets Lou.
After 1885 .
Amazed by the statue of liberty.
We now know Jessie is 13.
Living with Aunt K.
Three coins payment.
Their making money with wedding dresses.
Jessie is now 16.
She now is meeting Lou in the park.
Lou asked Jessie to marry him.
Grandmother comes to America with the wedding ring

This was historical fiction. What do you like about historical fiction and what don't you like?

Answers:

I like how it uses lots of detail. I disliked the the author made things sound sad.
I like HF because you can learn what life used to be like. I dislike it because I don't really like non-fiction.
I wish it would tell about her married life because it stops pretty abruptly.
