Why is it important to use models when explaining or teaching things?

How did you decide on the model that you chose for this video? What made it the best model for the job? (Why didn't you choose a different model?)
It is important because without them it can be harder to visualize and memorize.
What makes models important is that they usually aren't the proper size, or they aren't as realistic as the real thing.
I chose these models because the flashlight can create actual light to help prove points, I used the yellow ball because it helped me when I had to show revolution, and I used the styrofoam ball as earth because it represents the axis and the equator.
