Watery Earth Lesson 4: How Flamingos use Water

Flamingos are very interesting, they use water in many ways which helps them live their everyday life. Flamingos hold their breath when they feed their children underwater. Since Flamingos have long legs, they can swim much deeper than many other animals. They are often seen floating in dense packs of the water. Flamingos cannot live without water because they basically live in it. They are mostly seen living in lakes. Flamingos use their tongues to suck water in at the front of the bill and pump it out through the sides.
They get their beautiful color by bobbing up some shrimp from the inside of the water. As you can see, Flamingos need water to live their life! Even the food they eat drinks water!

              How humans and Flamingos use and need water

Humans

• Unlike Flamingos,The average American uses around 150-250 gallons of water daily while the flamingo uses way less.
• Humans use water to wash our dishes when flamingos do not have dishes which make washing dishes unreasonable for flamingos.
  

Both

• Both humans and flamingos need water to survive. Without water, the human and the flamingo would not be able to live.
• Both flamingos and humans bathe themselves with water.
  

Flamingos

• Unlike humans, flamingos have webbed feet which help them swim. Human do not have webbed  feet, they just have to learn how to swim with the help of our arms and legs as well.
  

   1.Why is water considered a "Natural Resource?"
   2.   How is water essential (required) to our survival and the survival of all living things?

• Water is considered a natural resource because it is not man-made. This means that humans did not invent water, it was here on earth before any human laid on earth.
• Water helps with our hygiene, eating/ drinking. Without water our everyday life would not be normal. Also, water is used to keep plants growing and staying healthy. Water is a very important part of our lives.
