Oregon Trail Reflection

PictureMe visiting Chimney Rock!
It's been a long tough adventure along the Oregon Trail. So far we have discovered many problems. When we crossed our first river three of our travelers got infections on there feet because we popped our blisters. and even worse Matilda Faulk had to get her foot amputated because her infection was so bad! On the other hand for the other two people they just had two weeks in the wagon and they had to take special medicine to heel. Along the way we found out that Iskandar Alatas was very sick. A nice man offered to sell us snake oil to help cure his sickness. Not everyone believed that snake oil would help cure his sickness so we decided to search it up and we found out that snake oil is a fraud and people try to sell it just to make money. We decided not to take the offer. We finally got to Fort Laramie. A lot happened at Fort Laramie, Kai Bon was sharpening knives and he cut off his finger. Ouch!! While we were trying to get him better Alexandrine Haberle Fell in love and decided to stay! Iskandar Alatas was very sick and had to stay. We alsofound out that we had spent lots of money.

Watery Earth Lesson 9- Finding Bodies of Water on Maps

5/20/2015

  • What bodies of surface water did you find while examining the three maps?
  • Were there any types of surface water on the Arlington Heights map that you weren’t able to find on the Illinois map? If so, why?
  • Were there any types of surface water on the Illinois map that you couldn’t find on the United States map? If so, why?
  • What are some names of the bodies of water in Illinois and Arlington Heights? What bodies of water did you identify?
1. When looking at the three maps I found Lakes, Bays, Rivers, and Gulfs.
2. Yes, I found a lake in our town that I could not find on the IL map. I couldn't find it on the IL map because it was bigger and it did not zoom in on Arlington Heights.
3. Yes, there were many lakes on the IL map that I could not find on the U.S. map. I couldn't find it on the U.S. map because it was not so zoomed in.
4. There is Pear Tree Lake and Lake Michagan. I identified lakes.

Watery Earth Lesson 7: My Water Molecules Journey

4/30/2015

Whoosh!!! There I was falling in the sky down to some strange planet called earth. Crash! Boom! Pow! Goes one other comet just like the one i'm riding on. 3,2,1, Crash! I somehow ended up in a big pile of water. It so loud all of the other molecules chatting about things i dont even know. It seems that all of these people have been here for a long time and have made friends.

“Ow! Jeez you would think coming from Precipitation wouldn't hurt so much.” I look over and another molecule has fallen. It sounds like hes talking gibberish or something. “Precipitation” I keep thinking back to myself what could that mean. I race over to the molecule to help it up.

    “Are you okay?”

“Yeah, I’m good. Did it hurt a lot when you fell from Precipitation?”

    “What?”

“You’ve never heard of the water cycle?”

    “No, tell me about it.”

Watery Earth Lesson 6- Drops of Water on Different Surfaces

Surface

Grass

Log Cabin

Yarn

 Paper

Concrete
Prediction

I think it will form as a bubble on the grass.
I think it will absorb the water.
I think that the yarn will not absorb the water.
I think that the paper will absorb the water.
I don't think that the concrete will absorb the water.
Actual

The water on the grass did bubble so therefore my prediction was correct.
The log cabin did not absorb the water so therefore my prediction was wrong.
The water on the yarn did bubble so therefore my prediction was correct
The paper did absorb the water so therefore my prediction was correct.
The concrete did not absorb the water so therefore my prediction was correct.
Reflection
I was not supervised by the results because I have seen the water from the rain on the grass in the morning.
I was suprised by the results because whenever I have seen woood after rain it is soggy because it has absorbs that water.
I was not surprised by the results because my prediction was correct.
I was not surprised by the results becuase I always get water on paper.
I was not surprised by the results because my prediction was correct.
  1. Which materials surprised you the most? Why?
  2. Which materials do you still wonder about? How do you think water will respond to that material?
1. The log cabin surprised me the most. It surprised me the most because I have seen wood that is wet and it was absorbed.
2. I still wonder about cotton. I think the cotton will absorb the water.

Science Fair

  1. Overall, I think that the Science Fair was a valuable experience because...
  2. I definitely made some mistakes along the way, but I learned from them. Here are some examples...
  3. If I were given the chance to do anything differently, I would...

  1. I got to share my interest with parents and lots of big and little kids.
  2. One mistake is when I was sharing with some parents I gave the wrong information and instead of keep say the wrong information I corrected it.
  3. I would try to put more pictures on and have displayed what I used.
By the end of the Science Fair my presentation was better because I felt more confident in my presentation.
Was not here to record my first video.
