What I think I know about mars.

My notes on the video

    • Rockets have reached Mars but not people
    • it is 250 million miles.
    • Its volcanoes are as wide as the state  of Missouri
  • some mountain valleys are as long as the grand canyon
  • It is so cold there that the water is frozen be neath the surface
  • they are making lots of ways that are genius to get there.
  • They found a mederoide from mars and it had water minerals and that there may be life on the planet.
  • they found faces in the ground.
  • a guy made a way back from mars to earth
  • they are making a machine that takes pee and turns it into water
  • they are collecting food for mars
  • they are experimenting with different color of light if it helps the plants grow
  • you need to work out for 2 hours to keep your muscles
  • they are creating a workout machine
  • I feel scared o go into space
  • i don't think i can handle the stress you have to face

  1. What do you know about NASA's plans to visit Mars?
  2. How long will the trip take?
  3. What supplies and equipment will the astronauts need to survive there?
  4. What do you think are the risks of traveling to such a distant planet?
  5. What would you want to bring with you?
1. I know that they have started to make things that will help them survive on mars. They are stoking up on food that they will need to survive on they way to mars.
2. The trip will take 6 months if mars is right next to earth.
3. They will need a treadmill so their muscles could feel the pressure they do on earth. If they don't do that once they come back from mars they would not be able to move.
4. Some of the risks are that there is a chance is you may not come back from mars. You can get hit from a asteroide.
5. I would want to bring food, water, and space suite.
I would want to bring food so my muscles get the nutrients  they need, water so i stay hydrated, and a space suite so i can breath.

Questions

Answers

  1. How did the gelatin in Cup 1 change?  Did its ability to pass through the filter change?
  2. Did the enzyme powder cause the change in Cup 1?  What evidence do you have to support your answer?
  3. What was the one difference between Cups 1 and 2?  Was there a change to the gelatin in cup 2?
  4. Which material from our lab was a metaphor for the bloodstream?  In which cup did the gelatin’s nutrients reach the “bloodstream”?
  5. Based on your experimental findings, why do you think it’s important for the food you eat to be digested?
  6. How is food digested in the digestion system?  What type of digestion did the model demonstrate?
  7. What do you think would happen if you ate lots of food but couldn't digest it? Would you still be hungry? Would you have lots of energy? Would you perform well in a sports competition?  Explain!
1. Yes it did change. The meat tenderizer broke the gelatin down and was making it into liquid and it leaked through the filter.

2. The enzyme powder did cause the change in cup 1. If you sterd the gelatin in cup 2 it was squishy. In cup one there was liquid at the bottom and the gelatin was soft.

3. There was no change in cup 2 because it had nothing breaking down the gelatin. The difference was That cube one was liquidy because the enzyme powder was breaking it down. Cup 2 was all squishy and nothing went through the filter because it had nothing to break it down.

4. I think the metaphor for bloodstream was the jello and I think in cup 1 was when the nutrients reached the bloodstream.

5. I think it is important that the food that we eat gets digested. If we don't digest our food we cant get nutrients that our muscles need.

6. Food is digested when food is enter through the mouth and chopped in smaller pieces by teeth. Our saliva helps with chemical digestion. Our tongue forms it into a ball. And then it goes to the esophagus and down to your stomach. The stomach churns the food and releases acids and enzymes. It breaks it down into even smaller pieces. Then it goes to the small intestine and the small intestine it takes the nutrients and gives it to the capillaries so they can take the nutrients to the muscles. Then it goes to the large intestine and the large intestine drains the water and when its done the the waste comes out through the anus. The model demonstrated how it works in our stomach by the meat tenderiser acting like the enzymes breaking down the gelatin.

7. I think if you eat a lot of food but you don't digest it you cant do all things Mr. Solarz said in question. You won't be able to do all these things because when you are digesting and the food reaches the small intestine the small intestine takes the nutrients and gives it to the capillaries and the capillaries take it to every cell in our body.

I was just walking to my friends house and I saw a miserable hyena stuck in a tree. It looked old because it had grey hair. I tried to climb the tree but I kept on slipping of the tree. Finally I decided to get a ladder and I got up the tree. The hyena started to talk it moaned

“ food food.” I felt like he wanted food so I went and got him a sandwich He ate it and said “ Thank you.” I felt good helping a miserable grey hyena. Then finally went to my friends house. The end.

Breathing through Straws

  1. What was the purpose of breathing through the straws?
  2. While breathing through the wide straw, were some of the activities more difficult to do than others? If so, which ones?
  3. How does your breathing change as you become more active? Why do these changes happen?
  4. Why do you think that breathing through the wide straw caused the effects that you described?
  5. Did breathing through the thin straw affect you differently than breathing through the wide straw? If so, explain why you think this occurred.
  6. Why do you think you were asked to breathe through the thin straw for 20 seconds instead of 1 minute?
  7. Why do you think you were not asked to walk or run while breathing through the thin straw?
  8. How would your daily life be affected if you could only breathe in small amounts of air with each breath?
1. The purpose was to learn how it feels having brochettes and asthma.
2. It was hard when I was walking and running because breathing through the wide straw could not provide large amount of oxygen needed for these activities.
3. It changes my breathing as I become more active because the heart is trying to produce oxygen and nutrients to your muscles so they can keep working.
4.My tongue was getting dry because I was trying to suck in allot of air. My ears were tightening because my nose was closed and it put pressure when I tried to breath.
5. Yes did affect me differently because not enough air was getting into my lungs and if i don't get enough air in my muscles aren't getting what they need.
6. I think we were asked to do it for 20 seconds instead of 1 minute because we could pass out if we breath through a thin straw.
7. I think we went asked to walk or run with the thin straw because if you cant to 1 minute that means you should not walk or run with the thin straw. Also if I ran my muscles will need oxygen constantly but i cant get enough air in my body.
8. You wouldn't be able to run and jog for a long period. That would happen because your body is not getting enough oxygen so it cant do these things.
