  1. What is the problem in the scene?

  1. What is the conflict?
  2. What type(s) of conflict are present?
  3. How do I know what type(s) of conflict are present?
  4. How does the conflict move the story along?
  5. How do the characters resolve the conflict?
  6. Are the characters changed by the conflict? How?
  1. Julian, Henry and Miles were teasing Jack, and Justin threatened to hurt them if they kept it up.
  2. Person vs. Person
  3. I know that it Person vs. Person because it  is a person ( Justin ) that is upset with another person ( Julian ).
  4. If we didn't have this scene we wouldn't have gotten to know Justin's character very well, and we would have just thought that he was a minor character, even though he is brave, and loves the Pullmans.
  5. They don't really resolve it in this scene, but at the end of the book Julian moves to another school.
  6. I believe that Justin feels proud, because he walked away feeling like a hero. And Julian was obviously, er, less confident then usual.

Donald Trump is the New President

11/9/2016

Red States = Republican won
Blue States = Democrat won
Teal States = To close to call
Here is my explanation of how the electoral college works:
The president with the most delegates wins, not the one with the most votes. If the majority of a state votes for a republican  candidate, then all of it's delegates go the republican candidate. If the majority of a state votes for a democratic candidate, then all of it's delegates go to the democratic candidate. Some cities, such as California and New York are worth more delegates than states like New Hampshire and Rhode Island because they have more votes.
Here is my explanation of how there are more red states, but Hillary won the popular vote:
Hillary won the popular vote, because she won all of the states with more people in them, like Illinois and Oregon. Trump won more states, but he won less people then Hillary.
Picture
Here is my explanation to why Illinois is traditionally a democratic state: Illinois is home to Chicago, which is a big city, and big cities are generally left leaning, because they are more complex the rural areas, and they want a government that interferes, and keeps things under control.
  • Donald Trump's plan for America ( information from https://www.donaldjtrump.com/ )
On Taxes -
  • Reduce taxes across-the-board, especially for working and middle-income Americans who will receive a massive tax reduction.
  • Ensure the rich will pay their fair share, but no one will pay so much that it destroys jobs or undermines our ability to compete.
  • Eliminate special interest loopholes, make our business tax rate more competitive to keep jobs in America, create new opportunities and revitalize our economy.
  • Reduce the cost of childcare by allowing families to fully deduct the average cost of childcare from their taxes, including stay-at-home parents.
On Ilegal immigration -
  • Prioritize the jobs, wages and security of the American people.
  • Establish new immigration controls to boost wages and to ensure that open jobs are offered to American workers first.
  • Protect the economic well-being of the lawful immigrants already living here by curbing uncontrolled foreign worker admissions
    • Select immigrants based on their likelihood of success in the U.S. and their ability to be financially self-sufficient.
On Healthcare -
  • Repeal and replace Obamacare with Health Savings Accounts (HSAs).
  • Work with Congress to create a patient-centered health care system that promotes choice, quality, and affordability.
  • Work with states to establish high-risk pools to ensure access to coverage for individuals who have not maintained continuous coverage.
  • Allow people to purchase insurance across state lines, in all 50 states, creating a dynamic market.
  • Maximize flexibility for states via block grants so that local leaders can design innovative Medicaid programs that will better serve their low-income citizens.
On Economy -
  • Create a dynamic booming economy that will create 25 million new jobs over the next decade.
  • For each 1 percent in added GDP growth, the economy adds 1.2 million jobs. Increasing growth by 1.5 percent would result in 18 million jobs (1.5 million times 1.2 million, multiplied by 10 years) above the projected current law job figures of 7 million, producing a total of 25 million new jobs for the American economy.
  • Reform policies with a pro-growth tax plan, a new modern regulatory framework, an America-First trade policy, an unleashed American energy plan, and the “penny plan.”
  • Boost growth to 3.5 percent per year on average, with the potential to reach a 4 percent growth rate.

The Election is Next Week

  1. What did President Obama say was the one thing that would help the world?
  2. Why do you think President Obama gave that as his answer?
  3. Kids can change the world. Adults can change the world. It will go faster if we all work together. What is one way I can help change the world?
  1. For kids to be kind to one and other everyday. If kids practice this, then one day, when they're adults, they will do that too.
  2. Because he wants to get the point across that both kids and adults can change the world.
  3. To help others everyday, so that they will pass it on. If everybody helped everybody else ( kids and adults) then we would have a good chance at world peace.
