Notes!

Year: 1776
British are picking on the colonists
French and Indian War:
French vs. British
For land
People died, money was spent
Native americans took sides
British won
England spent to much money
Ask America for money
England taxes America
Natives don't believe in owning land
Cooper makes barrels
King George made a proclamations that you can't go West of the Appilation Mountains
Tax Collecters went to America to get money
Currency Act: The British forced them to make the currency the same as England
People start Rioting - No taxation without repersentation
British made it so that you had to pay extra for newspapers, weddings, childbirth, funerals
The congress decided to not buy stamps
The Americans won!!!!! But on the same day...
The Declaritory Act: The British can tell the Americans what to do and they have to listen
Quartering Act: The soldiers have the right to sleep in the Americans houses and have the Americans cook them dinner
Sons of Liberty: They made the British MISERABLE!!!!!!
Townsend Acts: All those laws
Goveners will loose jobs if the Americans fight the British
George Washington says that the Americans should boycot England
America won
The Boston Mascher: British Soldiers were being teased, someone yelled fire, a soldier fired his gun, five guys were killed, Paul Revere wrote in the news that the soldiers killed them for know reason
Loyalists: For the king
Patriots: For freedom
Paul Revere lied and so lots of people became Patriots
Tea Act: Puts a tax on tea from other places but not on Brittan
Boston Tea Party: Sons of Liberty dressed up as Indians and board a tea ship and through the bags of tea into the harbor
Mayor of Boston didn't let them take of taxes
America created the first continental congress ( Georgia didn't come )
They discussed what to do about England, and wrote a letter to King George
Patrick Henry says " Give me liberty or give me death!'
Thomas Pane wrote " Common Sense"
Are they going to declare war?
How many people will sign the Declaration of Independence ?
Who else is in the congress? A lot of people!
What do they think about the Sons of Liberty? They thought that they were great.
Will they keep doing boycots and protests or will they start actually going and fixing things in person?
What about going to England and speaking to the king?
How will America do any of this in general?
Will Georgia be there? Yes but they came late.
They wanted freedom!
How much do things usually cost? Well, all of the tea dumped into the harbor would cost one million dollars today

Muscular System Facts

Muscles always work in pairs
In order for them to work, one muscle must contract, and the other must relax, or vice-versa
Muscles always pull, but they never push

What was hard for you during this activity?
What was fun?
Explain how your biceps and triceps work to bend your arm at the elbow. Use the following words in your answer:
1. biceps & triceps
2. contract & relax
3. cartilage
4. ligaments
5. tendons
6. humerus & ulna/radius

All agreeing on how we would create our elbow, and explaining it well on camera.
Physically building the elbow, choosing materials.
Your biceps and triceps are connected by tendons to your humerus, your ulna, and your radius. These bone are held together by ligaments. To bend your elbow, the biceps contact and the triceps relax. Your elbow is able to bend because of a joint, which is in the middle of your humerus and your radius. There is cartilage in between a bone and a joint to keep the bones from bruising each other.

Pen Pals Activity 1

What do you hope to get out of the Pen Pals activities? What do you hope to learn about?
How will you make sure that your writing is considered "Advanced" on the rubric above? How will you make sure others in our class meet the "Advanced" level in writing as well?
Why do you think it is worth one hour each week to dedicate to this program?

I hope to learn about other places in the world, and interact with new people.
I will use my best spelling and punctuation, and talk appropriately with my Pen Pals. I will help others with talking appropriately, and help out with spelling and punctuation, without being rude.
Because we probably won't get the chance to interact with people from other countries, and learn this way again in school.

Which product or company are you most excited about doing? Why?
Why product of company do you think will make the most money for us? Why?
Which products or companies would you be sad to see us get rid of? Why?
Which products or companies should we get rid of? Why?

I am most excited about creating a Build Your Own Toy Kit company because I can totally see our whole class working on it together and It seems like a fun thing to do.
I think the Hydroponic gardening would make us the most money because people would be interested in it, so they would be more likely to buy it, and people like to buy fresh fruits and veggies, and flowers, especially if their home grown.
I would be sad to get rid of Coupon books/magazines because it looks fun and could make us money. I would also be sad to get rid of Tie Die T-shirts because it looked fun and exciting.
I think we should get rid of Green Screen Photography because we would be letting strangers near the school. I also think we should not do creating a sport because not many people would notice it and we wouldn't get any money.

Which Joints are Most Important?

What surprised you about your final list compared with the class average?
What things did you agree closely with the class on?
Which joint do you think is most important? Why?
Which joint do you think is least important? Why?

I didn't have a single thing similar to the class average!
The ranking of the jaw, hips, knuckles, and wrists.
Hips. I think this because with out your hips your body would have no support and you wouldn't be able to do anything.
Knuckles. I think this because you can grasp things without knuckles. You don't really need them.

Where Do Bones Moves?

Joints are a turning point in our body, where movements occurs
Fixed joints - don't allow movement
Protect soft organs
Shape our body
Allows our muscles to move our body
Hinge joints - fingers, knees, elbows
Ball and socket joint - one bone ends in a ball, one ends in a socket, and they fit into eachother - hips, shoulders
Skull is like a helmet, it protects your brain
Babies have 270 bones, adults have 206
Baby bones fuse together to make adult bones
Bones DON'T bend
Skull joints are fixed
Ligaments are bands that hold your bones together
Pivot joints allows bones to rotate - ankles, wrists, neck

How Do We Move?

Eat, sleep, exercise
Sweating, speedy heart rate, thirsty, our body sweats to cool us down, speeds up our heart rate to pump extra blood to the body, and makes us thirsty if we are dehydrated.
Rest, take a breath, get a drink

What three basic things do our bodies need in order survive?
If we exert ourselves, what are three (or more) signs that our bodies are in distress? Explain why our body does that (research it if you need to).
What can we do to make these signs go away?

Schoolwide Reading - Launch Lesson 3

Setting: Another country, about fifty years back. Evidence: They are talking about America like it is far away, they have to take ships instead of planes.
Jessie and Grandmother are Jewish. Evidence: They are taught by a Rabi.
Tough Questions: Grandmother asks herself whether or not she should let Jessie go to America.
Jessie looks about eleven years old.
I think that Jessie gave her Grandmother her mothers wedding ring because she is possibly afraid of loosing it.
Jessie misses Grandmother on the ship. Evidence: She cries about her, and won't eat or sleep.
This book takes place after 1885
Jessie is thirteen.
Bathtub in the kitchen? Dress shop in the parlor?
Why is statue of liberty behind Jessie on the cover?
It looks like she's sailing away from New York.
Jessie is sixteen now.
Jessie and Lou keep meeting on Sundays.
Lou proposed!
Jessie's coin jar is filled.
Grandmother came to America!
Memory Moment: Flashback. The sea and the sky are a blur, just like when Jessie left.

What did you think of this book? What did you like and what did you dislike?
This was historical fiction. What do you like about historical fiction and what don't you like?
When the book ended, what were you thinking about? What are you still wondering or wish you'd know more about? Why do you want to know?

On a scale of 1-10, I would probably give this book an 8. I liked the density of the plot, but I didn't really like how it kind of dragged.
I like how historical fiction is like a history lesson, but way more fun, but, it isn't really my favorite style of writing.
When this book ended, I was thinking, Will there be a sequel? I wonder if they will start a family? Does Grandmother stay in new York, or will she move? What is Lou's origin?

Observing and Describing an Apple

1. Fresh smelling
2. Kind of slimy
3. Long stem
4. Rough and tan in the middle
5. Lumpy and smooth skin
6. Getting browner the longer I keep it out
7. Kind of scratched up
8. Shaped like a heart
9. Has a " spine" going down the middle
10. Green vains
11. Fuzzy, leafy, dusty bottom
12. Little white dots all over the skin
13. Sort of see through on the edges
14. Rough, dry and white in the core
15.White powder all over the skin
16. Parts of the core are green, shiny and smooth
17. Tiny seeds are hidden in the core
18. Inside feels fleshy and flaky
19. White hair on the stem
20. Really juicy flesh
21. Inside of apple isn't rotting and decaying
22. Core is becoming brown and stringy
23. Sticky juice

Why were you able to observe so many things about your apple today?
Why is observation and description so important in science?
Rank order the five senses in the order or your observations (i.e. which sense was used most, second most, etc.)

Once someone mentions it, you realize how many things there are to observe in an apple.
Science is basically observation. People who discover new stars were observing the sky. People who discover new microbes were observing chemicals.
Sight, touch, smell, hearing
