The blue team represented the colonial soldiers. They had fewer men. The white team was the French army. What it represents is the French coming to help the colonial army. The other side of the rope, the Red team, is the British army. The extra red team is the British reinforcements coming to help the red team pulling on the rope.
The French was further away so it took them longer to get to the colonies. The red team got there earlier because they were closer to the colonies. Even though the colonial army was smaller, the French army made them bigger. Also, the colonial soldiers were fighting for something. The British army didn't have anything to fight for. Plus they were scared because they were surrounded by people who disliked them and even hated them.
1. Which team were you a member of?
During the tug of war metaphor demonstration I was a member of the white team, which represented the French army.
2. How did you feel at the beginning of the game?
I felt excited at the beginning of the game. I was on the white team, which was joining the blue team, and I thought we would win.
3. Who did you think would win the game at first (RED or BLUE)? Why?
In the beginning I thought the blue team would win because I already knew the colonial army won.
4. How did you feel as the rules changed? Did you get discouraged or more confident? Why?
When the white team was added to the blue team, I got more confident. I was also excited because I thought we wouldn't have to do our blog because we were joining the blue team and Mr. Solarz said the blue wouldn't have to do their blog if they won. But he lied and we had to do the blog anyway and I was discouraged because I fought for nothing.
5. What were the reasons why the BLUE team won?
The reasons the blue team won were because they had more men, with the help of the French Army, they also had war ships and weapons from the French Army, and the colonial soldiers were fighting for something. The British Army had nothing to gain from winning the war.
6. Historically speaking, what happened once America won the Revolutionary War? What changed in America?
Why was it important that America won the war?
It was important for America to win the war because that would free it from British rule and they could make their own laws. Once they won the war, they began to create their own laws like the constitution.
7. What would have been different if America had lost the war?
If America had lost the war the people would be paying the British government for taxes and protection. By giving their money to the British government, they would not have been able to create its own army for protection, build better forts and houses for protection, and built their settlements.
