What do bones do?
- ribs and skull protect our organs (heart, lungs, kidneys, liver, stomach, eyes, esophagus , pancreas, intestines etc...)
- help us stand up
- allows our muscles to move
- connects your bones
- where two or more bones meet so we can move/bend
- fixed joints don't allow you move
- hinge joints can do one movement (up and down)
- top two knuckles on your fingers on hinge joint
- ball on socket joints the ball will turn in the socket (shoulder, hips)
- gliding joints (allows you to swing your arms and legs in most directions) and pivot joints (allows your arms and legs to rotate from side to side) (neck, ankles, wrist)
Fun Facts
- kids/babies have more bones than adults
- cartilage is in between bones to prevent them from rubbing together and it's also found in the nose
- the Bone Marrow is a "nursery" for our cells being created
- bones aren't completely solid but are still very very very strong
- more than 200 bones in your body
