2nd Continental Congress

2nd Continental congress
  • The tea act affected them.
  • The quebec act didn’t affect them because it was in Canada.
  • Some people hated some more and some people hated some less.
  • Sam Adams was the leader of the sons of liberty and they rebelled against the British by boycotting.
  • They didn’t want England to own them because they were bossing the colonies around. They also wanted to be in the parliament.
  • They didn’t think it was fair to be taxed and not get a say weather or not they wanted it.
  • They got annoyed more and more as they made more taxes.
  • Some of them were loyalists.
  • They called the soldiers lobsters.
  • They felt a little scared when they were there own country and some felt happy to do it.
  • At the 2nd continental congress they accomplished asking for peace with England they also then decided to declare independence.
  • They were mean to British soldier they threw rocks at them.
  • They were kind of scared that the king would hurt them.
  • They chose Thomas Jefferson to write the declaration of independance because he new 7 languages and  had good handwriting .
  • Ben Franklin was inspired to be an inventor because he always had an interest in science and building.
  • The loyalists were picked because they wanted a say.
  • The best part of not being owned by Great Britain is they don’t have soldiers in cities and aren't being taxed.
  • They thought the Boston massacre was terrible and they were angry especially because John Adams defended the soldiers.
I am glad I got to go to the 2nd continental congress because I got to learn about how not everyone in the congress was a patriot some of the people at the continental congress were actually loyalists. Another cool thing  learned was that the reason Thomas Jefferson wrote the declaration of independence was because he had the best handwriting and he knew 7 languages. He was also a great writer but terrible at public speaking. One of the acts that really didn't affect them at all was the Quebec act it didn't affect them because it was in Canada. I also learned that Sam Adams was the leader and started the sons of liberty and he motivated people to boycott and smuggle in other goods. They would rebel against the British.

Observing the Sun for a Day.

By Daniel

Reflection/Synthesis Questions:
  1. What shape (or pattern) did the sun appear to make in the sky over the course of the day? What evidence do you have to support your explanation?
  2. How did the height of the sun change during the day? What evidence do you have to support your explanation?
  3. Why was it important to use the same landmark(s) for each observation and have a permanent spot to record our observations from?
  4. When you look at your data from the day, how did the sun’s position seem to change over time?
  5. If you did the same activity next week, do you think you would see the same pattern of movement of the sun? Why or why not?
  6. What about next month?
  7. What about 6 months from now?
  8. Based on your observations, where do you think the sun goes every evening?
1. It made an ark shape. I have evidence because I know that when the Earth is spinning around it's axis the axis is not straight up and downs so when the Earth spins the sun looks like and ark.
2. The height of the sun changed during the day it started low got high than got low again. I have evidence that it did this because the Earths axis is on an angle and when it spins you see more and more of the sun than after noon you see less and less. So it looks like it's moving across the sky.
3. It is important to use the same landmark for each observation b because then you can see the difference more clearly.
4.When I looked at the dat I noticed that it made an ark shape it started a little over the trees then  it got higher than after noon it got lower again.
5. If I did this experiment again next week I think that I would find similar results but at noon the sun would just be a tiny bit lower because I know the closer I get to winter the lower the sun gets.
6. If I did this experiment again next month I think that again I would see the ark shape but the sun would rise a little later, be a little lower at noon and set sooner.
7.  In the next six months I would see something totally different. I would still see the ark shape but the sun would be rising sooner, higher at noon, and setting later. Also every day the sun would be getting higher at noon not lower.
8. I know that the sun doesn't go anywhere and that we are the ones that are actually moving. But the Earth is spinning so that is why it looks like the sun is going across the sky but when it is night that is when we can't see the sun the other side of the world is day and they can see this sun.

Observing Shadow Pattern

How can the sun tell you the season?

1. Picture 1
2. Picture 2
3. Picture 3
4. Picture 4
5. Picture 5
1. Since it is 7:30 in the picture and it is still bright out and the kid is wearing short sleeves and is riding a bike.  With these clues I think that it would make sense if it was summer.
2. Sense the grass is still green and I see mist that means that it is kind of cold but but not to cold. Also it is 7:15 and it is sunrise and there are pumpkins I think it is fall.
3. It is only 4:30 and it is only sunset, there is snow on the ground which means it's cold, and all the leaves are off the trees so this means it is winter.
4.There are flowers blooming but there is still snow on the ground but it is a light coat and it looks like it's melting and it is 7 in the morning and it is already bright outside so I think that with these clues it is spring. Also the grass is starting to grow.
5. The shadow is still pretty long and it is 12:30 PM  it wouldn't be that long in any other season so that is why I think it is Winter.

Earths Gravitational Force

9/11/2017

  1. Which of the following best describes Earth’s shape?
    A. disk
    B. circle
    C. sphere
    D. plane
  2. Earth’s gravity pulls an object toward its ____________________.
  3. Which model do you find most useful to explain gravity and its effects? Why?
    - Tennis ball and rubber band?
    - Styrofoam ball and toothpicks?
    - Circle on paper with arrows?
  4. Why are models helpful at explaining complex scientific concepts like gravity?
  5. Do you think the moon is affected by Earth’s gravity? If so, why doesn’t it fall “down” toward the Earth?
  6. Why doesn’t a plane or bird fall from the sky?
  7. Does gravity ever stop working? Do any forces ever cancel out gravity or reverse it? Explain.
  8. Why is this lesson on gravity a good time to teach about craters?

Answers

1.Sphere
2. Core
3. Styrofoam and toothpicks because I think it is easiest do explain and I think it kind of shows people better.
4. Models are helpful because you can show people instead of just telling people and with showing it is easier for the people to understand what you are trying to explain.
5.  I think that the reason that the Moon doesn't fall towards Earth is because the moon is in the Earths orbit and it just stays circling the Earth because the Earth  weighs way more than the moon. So it has a better center of gravity.
6.  Birds don't just fall because they weigh so little and there wings allow them to glide and they weigh so little that there wings pushing down is enough to keep them in the air.  Planes stay in the air because they have a motor that pushes air out and makes them fly.
7.I think that some forces do cancel out gravity. I think that one thing that does cancel out gravity is helium. I know this because when you put helium in a balloon it floats up.  I think it floats up because helium is lighter than air.
8. Learning about gravity is a good time to talk about craters because craters are from asteroids and asteroids fall to the ground because of gravity.
