Science Fair Presentation - First Draft

I would have been glad to record my presentation on video before the Science Fair because:

• It would have showed that I needed to practice what I was going to say so I wouldn't sound as though I had no Idea what I was talking about.
• I could have kept my first video in mind, and fixed the mistakes from it during the actual Science Fair.
• I could have compared my two videos.

Science Fair Presentation - Improved Version

By the end of the Science Fair my presentation would have been much better because:

• I would have gotten lots of practice explaining my project.
• I would have almost memorized every word.
• I would have learned how I wanted to present my project.

Questions

  1. Overall, I think that the Science Fair was a valuable experience because...
  2. I definitely made some mistakes along the way, but I learned from them. Here are some examples...
  3. If I were given the chance to do anything differently, I would...
1. It would have been a valuable experience because I have learned some presenting skills that are important. I also learned lots of new things during my research.
2. I needed lots of help with my Science Fair slideshow, since I had been sick, and made mistakes on it. I also almost didn't get my poster board finished on time and I had to stay in to finish it. I didn't have any basic liquids at first, but then Mr. Solarz got some for me!
3. I would have definitely been there for the Science Fair. I also would have had my video done earlier. I would have tested more basic liquids, since we only had three.

Oregon Trail Reflection

Picture
At the start of our journey, we had to buy supplies. We bought Conestoga wagons, but they were too heavy so we had to trade them in for Prairie Schooners. We got lots of supplies for the journey, and still had some money left for when we got to Oregon. We had lots of bad blisters on our feet, and we had to drain them. We had to cross the Kansas river, but unfortunately Matilda Faulk's blister got infected so badly, that the doctors had to amputate her foot. We stayed and rested at alcove spring for a little while. I was amazed by the huge herd of buffalo that crossed our path, but I was soon bored, because they had been in the way for too long. Somebody shot at one, and a few buffalo were scares and charged at our wagon. I was horrified that we would lose a wagon, but luckily they missed. We (finally) got to rest at fort Kearney. Our oxen were exhausted, so we all got to rest. Our wagon train had gotten some sick people, and we were scared that the disease would spread.

Watery Earth Lesson 9 - Finding Bodies Of Water On Maps

5/20/2015

  • What bodies of surface water did you find while examining the three maps?
  • Were there any types of surface water on the Arlington Heights map that you weren’t able to find on the Illinois map? If so, why?
  • Were there any types of surface water on the Illinois map that you couldn’t find on the United States map? If so, why?
  • What are some names of the bodies of water in Illinois and Arlington Heights? What bodies of water did you identify?
• We found lots of lakes and rivers. We also found oceans, bays, gulfs, and many more. We learned what reservoirs are, they are lakes used as a water supply.
• Yes, we found several small lakes that were too small to even see on the Illinois map. One example would be Pear Tree Lake, which is a small lake that we couldn't see on the Illinois map.
• Yes, we found lakes and creeks on the Illinois map that were too small to be seen on the United States map. We found Goose Lake, on the Illinois map but we couldn't see it on the United States map. We could see it on the Illinois map because the map is zoomed in to see more details like smaller lakes.
• We saw Eagle Creek and Lake Bloomington on the Illinois map. We saw Hasbrook Park and Clearwater park on the Arlington Heights map. We identified all types of bodies of water, we mainly identified lakes. We also saw rivers, oceans, gulfs, bays, inlets, reservoirs, seas, sounds, channels, and inlets.

  Be Honest
    By: Bela

Cringle the cat silently prowled down the stairs. She was a calico cat, with a black spot of fur that looked like a mask over her eyes. She had snuck out of her bed. She slunk through the shadows. She quickly crossed the open living room, and then she was in the kitchen. Cringle immediately ran to cupboard. she opened it, and was greeted by the tantalizing smell of cat treats. She decided to eat only a few, 2 or 3. But, she munched on them so fast that the treats were gone in a few minutes. She hid the bag under the couch, and went snuck back to bed.
The next morning, her mom went to the cupboard to get a cat treat for Cringle, who had done her chores all week without being asked.
“Cringle, do you know where the cat treats are? I can’t find them.”
Cringle stiffened. She didn’t want her mom to find out that she had eaten them.
    “No, I don’t.” She lied.
“Thank you, anyway. I wonder where they could have gone. Her mom responded, feeling rather puzzled. She checked all the kitchen, but decided to give up. She walked into the living room where Cringle was washing her paw nervously.
“I’m sorry Cringle, I was going to let you have some treats, but I can’t find them.”
At this, Cringle felt so guilty that the whole story spilled out. When she was done, she was crying and feeling sad.
Her mom thought for some time, the finally said,
“How about this: since you ate all the treats, you can buy us another bag of treats with your own money.”
Cringle nodded.
Ever since then, Cringle was honest, and never told a lie.

1. What type of person is Milo?
2. Do you think Milo is a good student? Why or why not?
3. Why do you think Milo acts the way he does?
4. Would Milo be someone you would like to be friends with? Why or why not?
5. Describe a time when you felt grumpy and disinterested like Milo.
1. Milo is the type of person who can be dull. He doesn't try very hard to see the interesting things in life. He believes almost everything is boring. He is grumpy and isn't very interested in anything.
2. No, because when you aren't interested in anything you probably won't try very hard, which is what Milo does, and that doesn't make him a good student. He doesn't care so he hardly gets anything done.
3. I think he acts the way he does because some people are just like that, and not too many incredibly interesting things happen to him. And when interesting things do happen he doesn't pay attention to them.
4. I wouldn't like to be friends with somebody like Milo. No, because he isn't very interesting and doesn't seem to take interest in anything like friends.
5. Once I had to go shopping for shoes, shoe shopping is my least favorite type of shopping. I didn't really care about the shoes I got, just that I got out of the store as soon as possible. It took awhile and I wanted to go home.

Watery Earth Lesson 7: My Water Molecule's Journey

4/30/2015

I was with my friends where we had accumulated in one flowing mass of water. We had just precipitated from our spot in the sky. We were a clean river, where people would come to fetch drinking water. We were flowing, when a woman came and put a bucket in our path, we flowed right in. I wondered what we were going to be used for. I quickly found out, because the woman took a small cup and dipped it into the bucket, dragging me into the cup. She gulped us down immediately. She took us to a painter’s studio. The man I learned, was Leonardo Da Vinci. The woman sat on a chair and posed for him. It was incredibly hot in the building and we were perspired out onto her face. We sat on her cheek for some time, waiting patiently for the man to paint our portrait. We eventually evaporated into the air, and never got to see our portrait.

I have been through a lot since that portrait was painted. I have been through the whole water cycle many times over, being transpired by plants, being evaporated into the air, condensing into a big cloud with friends, precipitating down from the sky, but finally, I have made it. I have waited for so long for this moment, I will finally see my famous portrait. I am probably the one of the most recognized water molecules in the art world. We have been traveling through the air, looking for the area. Suddenly, I spot a crowd, looking at my famous portrait. I drift forward quickly. I can’t wait to see my portrait. I can finally see the picture. I take in the picture, then I gasp, something important is missing: ME!!!

Watery Earth Lesson 6 Drops of Water on Different Surfaces

4/28/2015

Surface

1.Aluminum Foil
(Metal Statue)
2.Grass
3.Rock
4.Stick
(Tree)

Prediction

1. I predict the water will repel, and just sit on the foil.
2. I predict the water will slide down the side of the grass.
3. I predict the water will also slide down the side of the rock.
4. I predict the water will absorb into the stick.

Actual

1. It just sat as droplets on the foil.
2. It slid down the grass and sat in a puddle at the bottom of the cup. Some water collected on the grass.
3. It slid down the rock and some of the water soaked in.
4. Some of the water absorbed into the stick, but the rest fell into the cup.

Reflection

1. I wasn't surprised because it was my prediction.
2. It surprised me that the water collected on the grass.
3. I was surprised that some soaked in because it is a rock.
4. I wasn't surprised that the water absorbed.
  1. Which materials surprised you the most? Why?
  2. Which materials do you still wonder about? How do you think water will respond to that material?
1. I was surprised the most that some of the water collected on the grass. It wasn't my prediction and it surprised me, because I didn't expect it.
2. I wonder how different types of grass or wood would react to the water. I think they would react the same, but some types might be different enough that the water would do something different.

1. Describe your experience.
1.I know Lexie, because in preschool she and my little sister were really good friends. We played the game 'That's Me' for a while, until she said that she likes to draw, and I got out some paper and markers. We drew pictures, and Lexie was really good at drawing. I asked her some of the questions while she was drawing. When we were writing down each others' names she had incredibly neat handwriting.
2. Did your student leave our room feeling good about herself? How do you know?

3. What will you do differently when you meet Mrs. Arce's class?
2. Yes, because she was smiling, and was happy. She also was very talkative.
3. I will try to talk more, because I didn't talk too much. then again, my buddy enjoyed talking and preferred me to listen.
