What the goal means: The purpose of this goal is to finish a passion project that you are proud of. To create one with proper evidence and research, and a well aligned and well written blog post. I set this goal to help myself create a successful project that I actually learned from. This goal would be helpful for a person who has not had a lot of successful passion projects in the past and/or have been doing passion projects the way that they did in third and fourth grade, which is a lot different from in Mr. Solarz' class . This goal pushed me to work on more creative and innovative passion projects in the future. My goal was made to encourage kids to make sure their passion projects are as inventive and clever as they imagined it to be.
Why the goal is important: Passion time (or Genius Hour) is supposed to be a time to have fun learning and being creative, but sometimes the big idea in kids' heads is hard to actually make a reality. It's frustrating and difficult to make what you had planned to make. It's also hard to work under the deadlines and times of passion time. We only have ten one hour periods to finish a project, and sometime the project takes to much time. Kids shouldn't be upset when they start passion time, they should be inspired. This goal can also be a starter for developing a growth mindset. A lot of people (like me) give up easily when something doesn't work out the way they wanted to, or tell themselves that they can't do it. We need to know that anything is possible IF we make it possible.
Evidence that tells me that I was successful in meeting this goal:
- Before I start project I make a time plan so that I don't run out of time.
- My last three projects were a huge success and my last websites got almost 20 views a week.
- My reflections are now paragraphs instead of just sentences and question and answers.
- I start and end my projects at least one period before the deadline so that I can finish on time.
- I try to use most of my time researching so that I have evidence for the points I make on my finished product.
