| 1. NASA has been studying Mars for over 40 years. They have rovers there studying the planet and to see if a colony can survive in the second smallest planet. NASA is planning a manned mission to Mars early in the 21st century, specifically in the 2030's. 2. It would take 2 1/2 years to get to Mars. Since Mars is 250 million miles away, the rocket would be traveling at a speed of 11415.5251142 mph (I did the math). But if the rocket leaves Earth when Mars swings past us, the rocket would get there in 6 months. 3. Everything needed has to be taken because there isn't a known supply of anything on Mars. This includes food, utensils, plates, exercise equipment, building material, grappling hooks, spacesuits, transportation, and tools for all jobs, like stethoscopes for the doctors and knives for the chef. 4. Exposure to weightlessness causes bones to loose radical amounts of calcium and muscles to lose strength. In fact, on the trip to Mars a healthy 30 to 50 year old can end up with the strength of an 80 year old. 5. I would bring something to entertain me. That something would be the whole Harry Potter, Hunger Games, Divergent, and City of Bones series. Along with that, I would bring a computer to communicate with everyone back on Earth. |
