Me standing in front of Court House Rock
Day 1: We landed in our UFO and squished a man and we eventuality learned we had killed him. We then found a bag of gold that belonged to him so we were rich! We found a newspaper article about our UFO.
Day 2: We decided that instead of all the other trails, for instance Sante Fe Trail, we decided to still go on the Oregon Trail.
Day 3: We decided what to bring for materials: 6 Prairie Schooners to carry our supplies, grease for the wagon wheels, blankets, honey, pots and pans, sugar, muskets and weapons to protect us, corn, tea, rice, bread, soup, beans bacon, butter, eggs, salt, pepper, tomatoes, milk, water, dried fruit, veggies. Clothes like pants, shirts, shorts, stockings (socks)digging tools for when we make it to Oregon for the gold. Oxen for pulling the wagons, and a butter churn Etc.
Day 4: We decided at first to take Conestoga Wagons, we then traded them for six Prairie Schooners like I said.
Day 5: We had to cross a river by ourselves with the wagons and the oxen.
Day 6: Alsion, Nicole, And Kendall all got blisters and Alison had to get her foot cut off.\
Day 7/8: There was a herd full of about 100-200  buffalo that were in way of the trail. We waited there for about 2 hours until somebody shot at one of the buffalo and the herd came at us. Luckily, Nobody was injured.
Day 9:
Alison needed an IV  so we payed the 20 dollars for it. Once we got it, we washed her ankle off in boiled water. Then we put  the IV in her and she survived.
Day 10:
The Hatfields were all sick with fever and the Mr. McCoy and Mr.Smith arguing about who was leader and could decide if we were going leave the Hatfields’ behind. We did a majority vote and we decided that we were keeping them in the train and risk being sick. But  they decided to stay back anyways.
Day 11:

Iskander Alatas ended up having the same disease that the Hatfields and the Mccoys had. We had to figure out how to keep him safe, so for now, we put him in a quarantine.
Day 12/13: Today Kai Bon was sharpening our knifes and cut his pinky off. When we got to Fort Leramie Hanna found herself Madly in Love with her Future Husband. We then made a tough decision to leave Iskander Alatas behind.

Watery Earth Lesson 9: Finding Bodies of Water in the USA,Illinois,Cook County, and Arlington Heights

5/20/2015

  • What bodies of surface water did you find while examining the three maps?
  • Were there any types of surface water on the Arlington Heights map that you weren’t able to find on the Illinois map? If so, why?
  • Were there any types of surface water on the Illinois map that you couldn’t find on the United States map? If so, why?
  • What are some names of the bodies of water in Illinois and Arlington Heights? What bodies of water did you identify?
1.  The normal ones that I found were Inlets,Rivers, and lakes. But I found a little bit of everything on the list.
2. Lake Arlington. I didn't find it on the Illinois map because its so small and they only but big landmarks on there.
3. Fox Lake, is one, and pretty much verything but Lake Michigan. This is because to make the United States map,It has to be a huge body of water.
4. Lake Michigan is the only one. The bodies of water were basically either a lake or a river. Nothing else.

1. What Type of person is Milo?
2. Do you think Milo is a good student?
3. Why do you think Milo acts the way he does?
4. Would Milo be someone you want to be friends with? Why or Why not.
5. Describe a time when you felt grumpy and disinterseted like Milo?

1. He is really brave and adventurous. He loves to learn new things whenever he can.
2. I think he would be a very good student because he behaves and as I said in Number 1 loves to learn new things.
3. I think he acts like this so he can get people to like him and make new friends because he doesn't have many. Because he does not go to school.
4. Maybe not, because I feel really pressured when I get asked a lot of questions and have limited time to answer. And he asks a lot of questions.
5. One time in math class we were taking a test and I really didn't feel like taking it. So what I did was for like 20 minutes I just sat there and did nothing. I ended up running out of time so I stayed after school to finish it.

Watery Earth Lesson 7: My Water Molecule Journey

4/30/2015

My Water Molecule Journey

I was a little water molecule in a comet coming to crash down into the Earth. I was in a comet. After I crash landed in my comet I landed in Moneague Lake in Jamaica. It felt so good to finally be free instead of having to be stuck in a comet.

One Day, a Jamaican water worker was coming to pick up water and he picked up me. And I got taken to a Luxury house of some famous person I was guessing. And I went in to the house in the water jug. And it turns out that it was Usain Bolts House! He was in need of a jug of water and he dranked me. Then when he was running the 100 meter dash at the  Olympics he was sweating ( precipitating) and I was the sweat! But unfortunately I had to be Evaporated.  And then I was condensing and when I went up to the cloud to have a party and it turns out that the sweat that evaporated from the 7 other runners were there too. They were Hanna,Stacy,Emily,Bela,Aidan,Hasanain, and Nicky.  I was condensing.  So we had a party and them we went back into the sky to be rain again. Maybe We would be olympians sweat again someday. We waited for that day to come for a long time.

Drops of Water on Different Surfaces

Surface

Prediction

Actual

Reflection

1.Stick

2.Grass

3.Paper

4.Woodchips

5. Water
1. I think the stick will absorb the water but some water won't absorb to the stick.
2. I think the water will go through the grass.
3. I think the paper will dissolve a little bit.
4. I think the wood chip would do nothing big and it will barely get wet.
5. I think the water will make a big splash.
1. My prediction was supported exactly the way I thought it was gonna be.
2. My prediction was wrong. Some went to the bottom but some was stuck on the top of the grass.
3. The Paper went to the bottom of the cup and stayed on the paper.
4. It happened exactly as I thought it would.
5. It just went in the cup. No splash.
1. I thought this one was easier then most to try and guess what will happen.
2. This one I was suprised at the results because grass is so skinny you would think it goes right through it.
3. This is the one I was probably the most surprised on.
4. Since, it's such a hard surface I figured it would go down the sides if it hit it.
5. This was the most surprising of them all. Usually, when water hits water it makes a big splash. It didn't.
  1. Which materials surprised you the most? Why?
  2. Which materials do you still wonder about? How do you think water will respond to that material?
1. Here is the order:
          1. Water
          2. Paper
          3. Wood Chips
          4. Grass
           5. Stick
2. I wonder how yarn would respond. I think the yarn would get soaked but some water would go to the bottom because yarn is so skinny.

Science Fair!

                           Science Fair Presentation: First Draft

  • My first speech would have been a little too long for 65 different.
  • I wasn't as detailed in my second video during the Science Fair.

                          Science Fair Presentation: Improved Version

  • It was much easier to say that 65 times then it was for the first.
  • I felt like I got everything I needed to say in a short amount of time.
  • I'm glad I recorded after so people know what I actually   said.

  1. Overall, I think that the Science Fair was a valuable experience because...
  2. I definitely made some mistakes along the way, but I learned from them. Here are some examples...
  3. If I were given the chance to do anything differently, I would..

1. I got to share my interests with everyone and teach everyone science. Even the teachers.
2. I didn't know what I was going to say during the presentation. But then I got  used to what to say and kept saying that. So then it was clear talking.
3. I would have explained all of my slides. I would have also had people look at my slides.

5th Grade Mentors- Mrs. Cory's class

My Experience was amazing.  I definitely changed in between it. At the beginning me and him were both very shy to each other. Not wanting to ask questions. But when I started to talk and ask questions the kid started to speak up more. I think that the student went out of the classroom feeling more confident to ask questions and make more friends then he already has. I think he has more confidence in himself. I think he will have a easier time making friends because. I think next time that I do this project I will get involved more quicker and ask questions. Also instead of just talking, I think I'll do something with them like draw or something. Lucas was so much one to talk with and a very interesting kid!
