Oregon Trail Reflection

Me standing in front of Chimney Rock
The Oregon trail is a simulation that actually happened in a time. We started in Independence Missouri with ots and lots of money which was found when we first landed in independance. We decided to use the money to buy lots of supplies to use on the Oregon trail. Using lots of problem solving we take off onto the trail. We get to learn about different landmarks. We learned about how pioneers used to handle problems that happen today. Sickness also happens a lot. So I think it should be taught all around the world because its really interesting.

  • What bodies of surface water did you find while examining the three maps?
  • Were there any types of surface water on the Arlington Heights map that you weren’t able to find on the Illinois map? If so, why?
  • Were there any types of surface water on the Illinois map that you couldn’t find on the United States map? If so, why?
  • What are some names of the bodies of water in Illinois and Arlington Heights? What bodies of water did you identify?
1. I saw lots of different types of surface water including Oceans, Reserviors, Creeks, Channels,Inlets,Lakes, rivers, Bays, Sounds, Seas, Gulfs, and a Strait.
2. Yes there were little spots of water all over the place that we couldn't see on the Illinois map. They were too small.
3. Yes except some of the water was bigger then the Arlington heights map but still small enough to not be shown.

Moral Story

Once their was a teenager named Jeff. He was just like every other teenager. He was a great baseball player in College and was a pretty hard worker. After he noticed something was wrong about his game like hitting he would keep working at it. Then one day after graduating college and moving on to MLB. He was a projected to be a first round pick and was going to make a lot of money.

‘’ Im really proud of you’’ Said his father and Mother on the day of the draft while they were driving to the draft. He was nervous that he wouldnt get drafted high. Then the first round had passed then more and more. Then in the final round the last overall pick they called his name,

‘’And the Mariners select with the last overall pick Jeff White.’’ He walked up disappointed and took his hat held up the jersey and smiled for the cameras. He was heartbroken and he left the draft. He started spring training in the AA and he started to strike out and get error after error. He stopped trying. All he wanted was to be in the first round and play in the MLB. Then his parents asked him,

‘’Whats wrong. Why arent you playing like you did in college?’’

‘’ I dont want to play baseball anymore.’’

‘’Why?’’

‘’Because I’m not good anymore.’’

‘’ Sure you are. Is this because you didnt get drafted high?’’

‘’Maybe.’’

He started trying again and after lots of hard work and preparation he started moving through the ranks and finally he had his first start ever in the MLB. The moral of the story was to teach you no matter how something doesn't go your way you got to keep trying because some good will go your way.

Watery Earth Lesson 7: My Water Molecules Journey

Lets start when I was just flying through the sky. Then it all changed. I saw my buddies start slamming into the ground. Then we started flying down to the ground until I was squirted out into a large party with my friends. We started to get a little hot. Then I didnt know what started to happen to me. I got swept up into the air. This is what me and my friends thought was gonna happen to us. They called its everport no evaporation. Then we had a party up there. They were talking about it and they said that we had just been condensed.
I said ''You guys must be a pro at this water stuff.''
Then we started to get pulled down. I felt like the time when I got pulled down and crashed into the ground. Then one of my friends fell out of the party and said ''Hang loose and stay narly.'' Then more of my friends started leaving. Then I was slipping through all the cracks and i was stopped by a huge rock.

Leaf
I predict that it will roll down and leave streaks of water behind.

I think that some water will be obsorbed and some will roll down and go to the bottom.

I think that some water will move into the creases of the wood and the water will be obsorbed with little rolling down.

I think that barely any water will be absorbed and some will break through to the bottom.

As i predicted no water from what i could see was obsorbed and it rolled down the side.

As i predicted the water was obsorbed and rolled down the leaf.

As i predicted some got obsorbed and some rolled down.

As I predicted barely any water was obsorbed and most went to the bottom.
I wasn't surprised because I predicted what would have happened correctly.

I wasn't surprised because I predicted what would have happened correctly.

I wasn't surprised because I predicted what would have happened correctly.

I wasn't surprised because I predicted what would have happened correctly.
  1. Which materials surprised you the most? Why?
  2. Which materials do you still wonder about? How do you think water will respond to that material?
1. The leaf was the one that mostly surprised me because I thought that some would get absorbed but none did.
2. I wonder about sponges and does it really go inside of it or flow in and out. I think it is going to stay inside for a while but will come out eventully

Science Fair Presentation- First Draft

Im glad that I recorded my presentation before the Science Fair because
  • It helped me pick out the things that I need to work on
  • I can compare my videos

Science Fair Presentation-Improved Version

By the end of the Science fair, My presentation was much better because
  • I had practiced it a ton so I remembered what to say
  • I practiced on my parents so I felt comfortable with parents
Questions:
  1. Overall, I think that the Science Fair was a valuable experience because...
  2. I definitely made some mistakes along the way, but I learned from them. Here are some examples...
  3. If I were given the chance to do anything differently, I would...
1. It helped me be able to discuss topics and talk to adults. It taught me that you need to do everything good enough to present.
2. I didn't make sure that the constant variables were constant. That made me revise my project to its fullest.
3. Make the science fair in the spring so I would be able to do the project with real baseballs. The reason is that I wanted to get more accurate results.
