Reflection/Synthesis Questions:

Do mountains last forever? Explain why with as much detail as you can. What causes them to last forever or not last forever? Mountains do not last forever because rain/ice and roots weather away rock and crack them in half. Then eventually the whole mountain will get weathered away.
Explain at least two ways that solid rock can break into smaller pieces naturally? One way rock can break into smaller pieces is by rain.How this happens is when it rains the water will get into the crack of the rock and then the water will freeze and crack the rock in half. The second way rock would crack open is when a seed will get into the crack and after a while the root will grow and then the rock will crack in half.
How are rocks at the top of a mountain different than the ones at the bottom? What makes them that way? How did our experiment demonstrate that? The rocks at the top of a mountain are very big and have super sharp edges. And rocks at the bottom of a mountain are a little bit smaller and have smoother sides and edges. How they end up like this is when they get weathered sometimes the smaller pieces roll down the mountain and then the piece could rub against other rocks and when you rub somthing against another thing it becomes smooth. Thats what happened to the rocks. Our experiment demonstrated when you rub two things together their edges will become smooth and curved.

One way solid rock can break into smaller pieces naturally is by water . This means that when it rains the rain water will get into the rocks natural cracks the water will freeze and brake the rock into smaller pieces. Another way solid rock can break into smaller pieces naturally is by roots. This means that when the wind blows the seeds the wind is carrying will drop into the rocks natural cracks and over time their roots will grow and crack the rock in half.
Rocks at the top of a mountain are very large and they have sharp edges. Whereas rocks at the bottom of a mountain are a little bit smaller and they have smoother edges. The rocks at the bottom become this way by rolling down the mountain and smashing into other rocks. Our demonstration showed us that by rolling down the mountain at a high speed and tumbling into rocks they will become smooth and round.
