Reflection Questions: 

  1. How did the temperatures of the water in the two red Solo cups compare at the beginning?
  2. What happened to the temperature of the cold water over time?
  3. What happened to the temperature of the warm water over time?
  4. How did your graph show what happened? Explain carefully!
  5. After 15 minutes, what did you notice about the lines on your graph?
  6. What happened to make the temperature of the cold water get warmer?
  7. What happened to make the temperature of the warm water get colder?
  8. Use your line graph to predict when the two lines would merge. Describe. Why did you choose this timeframe?
  9. Which direction did the heat energy move?

Answers:

  1. The two cups had a very big difference because the hot one was about 104 degreases. Also the cold one was about 43 degreases. Why I think there was such a big difference was because the one that was cold had ice in it and the other one didn't and because the one that was hot was very very hot. 
  2. Over time the cold one got hotter. I think it got hotter because the ice was dissolving and the ice was the main way the water stayed cold. 
  3. Over time the hot water got colder. I think the hot water got colder because the room the water was in didn't get about any colder.
  4. The graph showed how the water got warmer or colder by using lines. The lines moved over time and if it went more towards the top it means it's getting hotter. Also if the line goes down it means that it's getting colder.
  5. I'm sorry, but I really can't answer this question because when the thermometer was in the water for about 15 minutes we were having our Valentines Day party.
  6. ​The cold water changed because of the ice melting. I think the ice melted because the room did not really get colder .
  7. The hot water's temp changed because of the air. Also air wasn't the only thing that changed the temp. The temp changed also because the water got used to the temp of the room.
  8. I think the lines would merge together if it had another hour. Why i think it would take hour is because after a while it takes a long time for the water to change temp.
  9. The hot water's line on the graph went down. It went down because the water got colder and as I said earlier when the line goes down it means the water is getting colder.​

Energy Transfers

These four videos represent my best explanations of energy transfers:

MESSAGE FAN- Chemical to Motion to Motion and Chemical to Light (Motion and Sound as Byproducts)
ELECTRO LAMPS- Electrical to Motion to Gravitational and Electric to Light(Heat is a Byproduct) 
ENERGY BALL- Heat to Chemical to Electrical to Sound(Motion is a Byproduct)
PULL BACK CAR- Motion to Sound to Gravitational and Sound to Motion(A different Sound energy is a Byproduct)

Reflection/Synthesis Questions:

  1. What was your favorite station? Why?
  2. Which object was most difficult to figure out?  Why was it so hard to figure out the energy transfers in this object?
  3. Why did you choose the four videos above? What criteria did you use to select those?
  4. Was it always possible to know for sure what kinds of energy transfers occurred

Answers:

  1. My favorite station was the electro lamp and ball. It was my favorite because I loved the electro lamp that had all different colors. Also another reason why it was my favorite station was because I thought that it was cool that all of the electro lamps and ball were different. And that is my answer to question one.
  2. The hardest station to figure out was the energy ball. The energy ball was the hardest one to figure out because whenever we thought we knew it Mr.Solarz would come back up to me and Molly D and give us somethingto figure out. Also if you think I'm blaming Mr.Solarz I'm not. And that is my answer to question two.
  3. I chose the videos up above because I thought that they were the hardest ones to figure out. The criteria that made me choose the videos I chose was because they were our hardest thinking. And that is my answer to question three.
  4. It wasn't always possible to know for sure what kinds of energy occured. For example the energy ball, me and Molly won't know for sure if we got it right unless we maybe put a tiny camera next to the motor. And that is my answer to question four.
