What do we Know? That the bottom of a boat can affect the speed of it a good amount (for the better or worse). we also know both of us wanted to do a hand on project instead of text book research project so this seemed like the perfect one. What Did We Learn? We learned the different types of boat hulls and how they work. We tested out different boat hulls and how they work. It was cool how to figure out which boat hull is the best. | What do we Want to Know?We want to know if by changing the shape and material of h hull of the boat if it will make it go faster or slower bob up or sink a bit and that kind of thing What Actions Did We Take?At the beginning of the round, we made up two different boat hulls, which were complete fails. Then we did some researching and we found out two different boat hulls that we want to create and test. Pretty much at the end of the passion time round we thought it was pretty much "which boat hull is the best". | How will we Learn this Information? We will make different boat hulls and see which one works the best. We may also do some researching about different boat hulls. What Questions Do We Still Have? Some questions we still have are "how are RC boats made?", "how do scientists decide how much power RC boats have?", and "Is there some sort of professional league for RC boating?" |

This project was fun. I learned a lot about different types of boat hulls. At the beginning of the round, we came up with two of our own boat hulls. Both were complete fails. We thought they would work but they failed. We felt like complete idiots. Then we did some researching about different boat hulls. We found the perfect website with different boat hulls and the pros and cons of the different boat hulls. We realized that the boat the we own is a catamaran. We decided we wanted to try two different types of boat hulls, the deep vee and the shallow vee. We started to create the shallow vee as our hull. This hull worked great and we thought it almost performed better than the catamaran. Then we did the deep vee. This hull was meant to ride it in lakes because it handles choppy water well. This wasn't really meant for ponds which is where we rode our RC boats. This did not perform as well as the catamaran or the shallow vee. Pretty much this project turned into "Which Boat Hull is the Best?" The best part about this project was testing the boat with different hulls. Driving the RC boat around was awesome. My least favorite part about this project was waiting for the boat to come. At the beginning of the round, we decided we would order a RC boat on amazon. This took forever so we had to exchange time with Mr. Solarz. We finally decided to cancel our order and our good friend TJ gave us one of his RC boats. I hope in south that I will be able to do passion time, I will miss it.
Ryan's reflection
Ryan:
In this project I learned a ton about boats and different hulls. I also had tons of fun testing the boat at ponds and the different hulls were tons of fun to make. It was tons of fun to learn how the different hulls worked and did on the bottom of the boat. I also enjoyed making the videos and time lapses (although we didn't have the I-pad stand). One of my favorite things was the failure and the winning. Like when we found out that our boat wasn’t a dual tunnels but a catamaran and a win was when the shallow vee was the best for us because we're learning different things in this and that's one of my favorite things in any project. Someone I want to thank is TJ for giving us the boat here check his project out click here to see it.
