- When we are being immature, we use metacognition and stay on topic.
- We will pay attention to what the people around us are saying so that we can give opinions.
- We will be motivated to work because of challenges, not material rewards.
- We will participate and stay focused in Evaluate.
- When we give our honest opinions on goals.
- When we respect the Evaluate-er like we respect Mr. Solarz.
- When we can work our hardest at reflecting on our errors AND our feats.
What the goal means: In Mr. Solarz' Class we have a unique end of the day routine, called REARJMCL. The E stands for Evaluate. During Evaluate, the Evaluate-er asks us what we did good and bad to determine our goal. Then we read of a list of questions to determine how we were as leaders that day. Evaluate is supposed to be silent ad focused on the questions and the goal, but sometimes we are off topic and having side conversations. This goal is to improve our focus and willingness to do evaluate not just because Mr. Solarz told us too, but because we want to participate and reflect on our day. Why this goal is important: One of our "goes unsaid" goals is that we don't work for rewards, we work for a thank you and a challenge. Most people just work at Evaluate because it is the end of the school day and they don't actually listen and evaluate themselves. A lot of kids (including me) have trouble concentrating during Evaluate and start side conversations or fidget. We need to learn to respect others and use metacognition. When we are not paying attention to the Evaluate-er during Evaluate, we aren't respecting Mr. Solarz, because the Evaluate-er has his power, and even if he or she didn't, we should respect them anyway. During the time that we are supposed to be looking back and reflecting on our errors, we are repeating them, which defeats the purpose of Evaluate in the first place. We need to learn to LEARN! "Follow Mr. Solarz' advice when he offers it - he usually knows from experience." - By Harvey G.6/6/2017 What the goal means: This goal means Mr. Solarz has great advice that we should take advantage of Mr. Solarz' advice to make our classroom better and stronger. It also helps with helping other classrooms because we share our learning through videos and social media. Also, Mr.Solarz has had eighteen years of teaching and has had many chances to learn about how to shape the perfect classroom. He has also had many travel options, for example he went to Finland to observe other classrooms. Why this goal is important: This goal is important because Mr. Solarz has a whole ship worth of ideas from eighteen years of sailing on the great sea of teaching. When we have responsibility partners, we will always check on our responsibility partners to give them quality boosters and feedback. Our class do not get grades except on the final report cards. Instead, we get feedback from both other students, and teachers to help us make our work better. Quality boosters are a type of feedback. They are students commenting on others' projects. But they have to make the comments nice and not that harsh. Why the goal is important: This goal is important because it will help people be the best person they can be and do the best work they can. It will also help people learn how to take feedback as a positive thing. This will help them in the future to get better at things from people's feedback from others. What the goal means: At he end of every day we are expected to grab the mail in our mail box if there is mail. We are expected to do this because there are different things that we get in our mail box that is important so if we don't get the mail we might miss out on something like a fun activity at school or a field trip. Why the goal is important: This goal is important because if we don't get our mail at the end of the day we could miss out on something fun or something that is really important and needs to get to our parents. One of our jobs is at the end of the day when everyone is leaving there is one person who makes sure everyones chair is stacked and they got their mail. So that nobody misses anything important or fun. It is an important goal. How we will know if we were successful in meeting our goal:
What the goal means: It means that when the schedule needs to change, you shouldn't start complaining. You need to just go with the flow and not be upset because you don't have a fun activity. Sometimes a boring subject will not be on the schedule because something more important needs to do. That can be an assembly, we need to finish social studies or science, or anything else that is super important. We can't always make time to finish a subject. You might need to do that at home. Why the goal is important: It is important because then you can become responsible and know how to adapt to new things. It is like when you go on vacation and it is a new time zone, you need to adapt to the new times. When you are in Mr. Solarz' class, you need to know, that anything is possible. You can't always think the same things will happen. How we will know if we were successful in meeting our goal:
Why the goal is important: This goal is important because you should direct your attention to the speaker to gain the full extent of their words and to process them to carry out their directions. For example Mr. Solarz gives a give-me-5 and people start talking. That is disrespectful, this is another reason why you should not have side conversations when others are talking. What was supposed happen was, Mr. Solarz gives a give-me-five and he gives his announcement(while no one is speaking). Having no side conversations also promotes successful give-me-fives How we will know if we were successful in meeting our goal:
What the goal means: This goal means that you should check that you do not loose many things. Also, you should not say did anyone see my _______ that is what this means if you drop things pick them up. It also means that we are 5th graders that should be mature. We are not kindergartners that have to keep their stuff with their teachers. That is what this goal means. Why the goal is important: The reason why this goal is important because if we do not keep our things eventually we will have nothing and people might steal things or put them in the lost and found when we do not check it. That is why this goal is important. How we will know if we were successful in meeting our goal:
What the goal means: This goal means try to make our class the best behaved by paying attention, being respectful, participating, etc. It also means, to not talk in between songs and not be giggly. Why the goal is important: This goal is important because you practice skills of being patient and not talking when you are supposed to. Also, you can use the participating, paying attention, and being respectful skills for the rest of your life when you are in meetings or just hanging out. How we will know if we were successful in meeting our goal:
"Behave maturely at all times, especially at specials and when Mr. Solarz isn't around." -Daniel6/6/2017 What the goal means: This goal means to be mature even if there isn't an adult watching you or if they aren't in the room with you. You should always have manners at a dinner table and you should be nice to people and don't tease people because that is immature and also you are being a mean, bully. Why the goal is important: If you are being immature and you don't ever stop, you can get in trouble, people would not like to be friends with you because of your behavior, and also you might get kicked out of something like a school or a sports team because you aren't nice to people because there wasn't an adult watching. "Make sure to bring the cart back to Room 132 when it's no longer red on the calendar." - Hailie B.6/6/2017 What the goal means: A classroom responsibility all year for us is to when ever we have the computer cart we always need to take it back to room 132 so that the other classrooms will know where to go when they need to get the computer cart. If we don't get the computer cart back to room 132 after we are done with it we will usually have a warning or a consequence. Why it is important: If we don't work towards this goal it will never help us learn how to do it the right way. It is a good goal to have because it will be reminding us during the day and we shouldn't forget to take the computer cart back. It is also really important to have this as a goal because then it will be helpful for the other fifth grade classes because they will be able to get the computer cart out of room 132. Another reason why this goal is really important is this will help us throughout life too because when we get older we will be more responsible with remembering to do other responsibilities. How we will know if we were successful in meeting our goal:
What does our goal mean?: Our goal means that we need to correctly line up our snow gear ( snow pants, gloves, hat, boots, and coat). We will place it neatly against the wall in its bag and after we've used it we will place it all back in the back and place the bag out of the way against the wall so all the stuff will be clean. Why is this goal important? This goal is important because if we don't A. the hall way would be a mess. B. People would fall down and trip over the snow gear and C. It would make the floor wet and could ruin the floors. So if we didn't the hallways would be messy, dangerous, and possibly even ruined. How will we know if we were successful in meeting our goal? We can know if we have met our goal if we the hallway is clear and easy to walk in and if we can see that all our snow gear is lined up against the walls. What the goal means: To not revert or become more like the beginning of the school year. If we reverted then Mr. Solarz would have to reverse revert us. That would take up some time of the school year instead of doing fun activities. That is what the goal means. Why the goal is Important: It is important because without it we would revert over break. Then we would need to reverse revert or revert reverting. Otherwise we would need to get back to where we are before break. Without it we would waste time getting back to where we were. Thats why the goal is important. How we will know if we were successful in meeting our goal:
What the goal means: This goal means that jobs in our class are not getting done we have to remind others to do their job because sometimes they forget to do the attendance and Mr. Solarz gets in trouble but we are a student led class that should take the blame. It also means if you are putting mail in the wrong persons mailbox when you are not supposed to do that for an example. If Mr. Solarz told us to stack your chair that would be violating the goal because he told you to do that. That is what this goal means. Why the goal is important: This goal is important because if we did not do are jobs Mr. Solarz would have to them and that would be a lot of work for one person to do. We also should be doing the jobs because we are a student led classroom. It would also would not be clean in the room if the jobs were not done. If some kids did not have to do a job then it would be unfair so that is why we help each others do their job if they can not do it. That is why this goal is important. "When doing any kind of writing, try our hardest to use correct spelling and grammar." - Catelyn R.6/6/2017
Why the goal is important: This is important because if you spell something wrong or use the incorrect grammar for some things you might be thought of differently or you might spell something wrong and people might get the wrong idea or become very confused, so its important to try and give it your all when you write! How we will know if we were successful in meeting our goal:
What the goal means: The goal was made because during individual goals which is a time where we write down goals but the last time we had it, people were making easy goals so they just accomplish all their goals without even really trying so we made this goal so people accomplish it and maintain it well. The goal overall means to try your hardest at making challenging and lofty goals all throughout individual goals. Why is the goal important: The goal is important because you need to make challenging goals in the time that we have because we need to not make easy goals because everything would be hard to you because the goals are so easy. Also, you will feel great if you accomplish a goal but it's a lot better than accomplishing a lofty goal. Plus it's also important to have a lofty goal because if you switch from an easier goal to a lofty goal. How will we know if we are successful with our goal What the goal means: The goal means that everyone shouldn't be independent and should help everyone or lead, sometimes help other to lead by giving them chances to do give me fives and remind them to do a transition give me fives. Also the goal means to help others succeed in class or become a leader and help everyone achieve goals, and help them become leaders or helpers. Being a leaders just means to help the group move on or help everyone individually succeed in life, everyone can be leaders if we all help each other instead of being independent and being separate from the group by not communicating, and collaborating. Some kids, teens, and adults don't collaborate because of the teacher or because of the way the teacher is teaching, teacher need to help kids to have them collaborate and communicate with the class to have more friendships and how our teacher mr.Solarz haves our class work in groups or with partners, it's not like worksheets upon day after day, he teaches by using technology, and fun ways kids can enjoy learning. Why the goal is important: The goal is important because how kids and all ages need to collaborate instead of being independent, being collaborative and helpful to people is really important because 23 minds is better than 1 mind. If all minds collaborate then the world would be very good and excellent, that's because everyone knows something else and someone will always learn something new or a better version of a product or known mentally like designs that might be cooler. Leading and helping is very important for the world, but sometimes letting others lead is useful so every individual can be a leader/helper. How we will know if we were successful in meeting our goal:
-Everyone is helping each other and collaborating by not being independent. -Everyone gets useful life lessons from each other. -The class is letting everyone lead and giving each other standing ovations. What the goal means: This goal was our W.I.G for our whole school last year. W.I.G stands for Wildly Important Goal. When we stay silent in the hallway, we won't be distracting other classes who are working. When we stay to the right side, we don't run into people who are walking in the opposite direction. When we walk with the end in mind, we wouldn't run into anything because we would be looking in front of us. Before we walk into the hallway, we do a "Give Me Five" to remind each other about the hallway expectations. At the end of the day, when we evaluate the day, we reflect and see if we did well or not in the hallway. Why the goal is important: This goal is very important because then people in other classes can stay focused and get their work done more efficiently. This will help our whole school to learn well and learn quickly since their are no distractions. This will help our whole school learn well. How we will know if we were successful in meeting our goal:
What the goal means: The goal means to be a respectful leader and help others at all times. It helps improve teamwork and bonding skills for the classroom. It is also a good example of the 7 Habits and using them in the classroom, but mostly you are using habit 6 "synergize". Synergizing is good to do because you work together as a team not as a single person, when you work together you get more things done like cleaning or organizing. Why the goal is important: The reason this goal is so important because it focuses on teamwork, focusing, and using the 7 Habits. But it mostly focuses on teamwork, working as a team is great for the class cause it makes them meat each other and they can learn about each other like where we came from or what we like. It really helps us bond to use what we know as a advantage to others like in learning or or activites. How we will know if we were successful in meeting our goal:
What this Goal Means: The goal means during our mystery skype we need to try to eliminate at least half of the places the people can be, so that we can make sure that we don't waste other people's time and so that everyone has fun. As well as making sure that Mr. Solarz allows us to continue to mystery skype. Why this Goal is Important: This goal is important because if we waste other people's time they will not want to skype with us again next year and Mr. Solarz willl get crabby at us and cancel mystery skype. How we will know if we were successful in meeting our goal:
What the goal means: This means that we have to be as respectful to our specials teachers as we are to Mr.Solarz. Sometimes we have trouble doing this because we are used to the way Mr.Solarz teaches. Since we can't lead the class and do different things that we aren't used to we have trouble. Then that makes the teacher mad, and they don't think that we are respecting them. This goal helps us make sure that we are respecting all of our specials teachers in all the ways we can. Why the goal is important: This goal is important so teachers get the respect that they deserve. We always remind each other before going into specials if we have this goal to be respectful to the teachers. We also don't want our specials teachers to think that we are a bad class. We want all specials teachers to get the respect from us that they deserve. How we will know if we were successful in meeting our goal:
What the goal means: The goal means to not bend all the rules or not follow them. It means that you should pay attention to the rules and try to follow them the best you can. It also means that if you have a different teacher like a sub or a specials teacher, that you should adapt to what they want and follow the directions they set, not what you usually do. Why the goal is important: This goal is important because if you don't follow it, you will get in trouble because you are not following the directions. Also, this goal will make you more aware of what you are doing and if you should be doing it. Also, you can take those skills into the outside world and use the skills for the rest of your life.
