Greeter By Tyler

The first thing that I want to say about being a greeter is that it is really fun, and not too hard to do either. Some things that you need to know about being a greeter is that you always want to have a smile on your face and be really nice and easy going because your basically representing our class because your the first face the'll see. I think that you will already know this but if you don't just make sure to not say anything about where we live, because it's a mystery Skype their trying guess that. Some things that you need to cover when your a greeter is that you should say like "hi were so happy to mystery Skype with you." Greet them then someone else should say who wants to go first, I like doing rock-paper-scissors that usually works out. The third thing that you want to say is what style to want to do, the choices are we just switch back and fourth or once you get a question right then you get a follow up. Then to wrap it up, you want to say something like good look and may the best class win. There is only one downside though, it's that this job you only get to do at the start. So then you just get to do it and then be a researcher the rest of the time.
So this job being a greeter is a really important job because a first impression is everything, right. Don't you want a new class to like you and think that your good. Like what if we Skype with some class in Brazil and we don't do a good job greeting them, then everyone will know us in Brazil as a bad class. So if this job was done badly or even not done at all, yeesh that would not turn out well our class, so I hope that you future greeters do your job right.
Some good tips that I have for being a greeter is to always smile and act nice, and just remember to go with the flow and let them have it the way that they want it.

During the signer job sometimes they cant here us so we need to show them signs and those sighs say yes no were thinking those kind of things its very important because sometime Skype glitches.
a way to improve this job would be to have 3 people on it and maybe combine closes and thankers with another job to do more things

This is a job we do almost every single time. This job is super important because you are able to share more things about your town country and even school or teacher. Some tips or tricks that you can do is to make it short and sweet.

This job is super important to mystery skype because you are able to share even more information about your town school and even you teacher! If the job is done wrong it is a big waste of time and you didn't get to share a lot off stuff about your town/city and even school or teacher.

Videographer By: Matthew

Videographer is an important job because maybe you or you parents want to see the Mystery Skype.
All you have to do is to grab an IPad and go into Youtube capture and hit video.  What you do next is go around videoing the Mystery Skype it should last for 5- 10 minutes, you also want to ask poeple what there job is too.  The next part is to upload the video, and how you do that is to hit upload and then it will take you to a page where it will automatically start uploading.  You have to put the title in too, it should be Mystery Skype #_  and what number the Mystery Skype is.  Once its done uploading you leave the page up on the IPad, go into education.weebly.com and go to Daily Photo Journal and make a new post.  Put in a Youtube slot and click on it and copy letter by letter into the blog post and title it the same as the video.
These are some of the videos that I have taken before during Mystery Skype.

Greeter

Being a greeter is a great job to have and you have to participate in it. If you are in a bad mood don't be frustrated, always try to be happy so they know that you are friendly. Respect all of their ideas and don't be bossy because some time they do mystery Skype's differently . Some times the kids who we mystery Skype haven't done a mystery Skype before, so if they are confused help them not be confused and if they make a mistake in something  don't get mad at them, be patient and correct their mistake.
When you are greeting the mystery Skype people you have to introduce yourself first. You also say that you are so happy to be mystery Skyping with them, because it is always fun to do a mystery Skype and it helps them know that we appreciate them giving up their time to do a mystery Skype with us. Then you ask them to introduce themselves because it is polite. When they are done introducing themselves you ask them, "how do you want to play the game? Do you want to play like if you get a question right to get a follow-up question? Or do you want to play like you keep on switching up turns? After the person you are mystery Skyping answers you ask them who wants to go first, usually you let them go first but if you really want to go first you either ask them if you could go first or you rock paper scissors if you don't care who goes first.
Being a greeter is important because if we don't have greeters then we will have no idea who goes first, what their names are, and how we are playing. There might be an confusion over who gets to go first and there might be another confusion about if we are playing with follow up questions or no follow up questions. One other reason why we need greeters is because we would not be able to thank the people who we are mystery Skyping with and that would not be good because they would not know how happy we are to be mystery Skyping with them.

Videographer - Giuliana

A videographer has to do a couple of things during Mystery Skype.  First of all, they need to go around the room with the IPad, recording.  Every once in a while, they need to go up to someone and interview them.  Ask a few questions, like what's the person's job and what type of Mystery Skype questions are they asking.  Videographers need to stop recording halfway into the Skype to upload the video to YouTube.  After that, they put it in the Daily Photo Journal.
This job is important because it keeps record of the Mystery Skype.  If people wanted to know how it went, they can watch the video.  It is also a video Mr. Solarz can use as an example of a student-led activity.  If no one did this job, we wouldn't have record of that Mystery Skype and people will forget it.

Task Master - Cassidy

The Task Master is a really important part of mystery skype.  This job is important because during skypes we need someone to go around and help other classmates with computer tips, editing, etc...  The task master looks on the mystery skype spreadsheet to see if other students need help writing questions, grammar, and punctuation. When you see a grammar mistake or anyone having trouble with something you should go up to them and ask if you are to any assistance, and if they say yes just tell them quietly if you see anything wrong with their questions or there research that they have on their computer. If they say not then just tell them really quick that there is something wrong with what they are doing. Also, if you do not know what is wrong with it and there is something wrong with the persons computer take their computer and ask someone that does know, hopefully they are not busy so you can ask them ask them for help even though you are the one that is supposed to be the one that is trying to help that person. Some helpful tips to make the job run smoothly are to be a good listener, cooperate, and know how to edit.
The job of Task Master is very important because without one there will be mistakes and confusion.  The Task Master needs to make sure that all of the other students follow the expectations of the teacher.  If we didn't have a Task Master the mystery skype would be a disaster.  Students work may not be done or may have many errors.  The mystery skype may not work well without this job.  It is someone that the other people in mystery skype count on to check their work.

My job is a photographer so I take photos when we are doing thing we normally do. I would say if you see a interesting thing that other people would maybe be interested in I take a photo of them. When I upload them to the a blog I do it in the middle of when we are in the mystery skype. I think that it is important to not just take photos of the same people maybe take photos of almost everyone, and at different angles of the classroom. I think one tip I would tell people is that they should not take them all at one time, I always take some and then work on the questions then a little bit later work on taking more photos.
This job is important because we can take photos when ever but we sometimes don't take them while we are do fun things. So that means that the photographer can take them and work on things because we should have some photos on the daily photo journal on mystery skype. I also think that my job is important because we sometimes tweet out photos for the other classes or people to see, I think that it would be cool if the other class saw the photos and said this is what they do while they mystery skype maybe we can do that  to.

Questioner - By: Addy

4/27/2016

The questions job is very basic. All you do is ask the other classroom the question that your peers came up with. The only thing you cannot do is come up with the questions yourselves. But you can distinguish which questions are good or bad, cheer when you or the other class get the question right, and you can suggest ideas for questions for others to say on the google spreadsheet. You should always try to be happy or cheerful during this job because it will make the other class feel confident. Like when they get a question right, don't act depressed! This game isn't about them. It is about you getting better at asking questions! If a question is obvious, (Like if you live in a certain country) than you can just tell them yes. But if a question is not so obvious, your peers will get you proof for their answer.
This job is important to each mystery Skype because without us, we wouldn't be able to verbally tell the other class what the question is! We also wouldn't be able to hear if we got a question correct, or if they have any hints for where they are! This job also does not make others have to come up to the board and ask their question. That is a good factor to the job. If this job was not done well, lets just say that the other class would be asking us to speak louder many times, if we had already answered the question, and a whole lot of other things! So that is why the questioner is so important!

Greeter - By: Rachel

My job the greeter is the first job to do anything. We start the show! So the first thing you would do as a greeter would be to kneel in front of the computer ready to start. Then with the other greeters you can decide who will say what. Then once the Skype starts the first speaker will say something like "Hello, we are so excited to Mystery Skype with you! My name is _____ and they are ___, ____, and ____." Then another greeter will ask the class if they want to go first, if we should go first or if they want to play rock, paper,
scissors so see who should start. That person then gets to play rock, paper, scissors if that is what the other class wants. Then the third greeter should ask the class if they want to play normal back and forth (with the questions) or play where if the answer to the question you ask is a YES, then you get a follow up question. If the other class doesn't understand or know, just tell them we can do the normal back and forth. Once that is all settled the finale greeter will say something along these lines "Okay! We are so excited to Mystery Skype with you guys, and lets get started!" Then all the greeters will go back to their seats to be researchers.
The mystery Skype job of the greeter is a important job because without it we wouldn't know how we were playing, and who was going first. We also would have an awkward start because the questioners would be sitting their and would be like "Uhhh hi, can we go first?" And the other class would be like, "Uhh okay." And then we would ask a question. So with the greeters the Mystery Skype starts of nice, smooth and fun!

Videographer - Audrey

Well... My job is the videographer and to point this out, this job is pretty fun. When you become a videographer, you are the one that is charge of making and uploading the videos that you record onto paulsolarz.weebly.com and onto YoutTube. If you don't publish your videos that you recorded on YouTube, then nobody around the whole world will get to see how Mystery Skype is done in or classroom. And if you don't publish the video onto paulsolarz.weebly.com, then the video that you made won't be on our website. Some hints and tricks that I have for doing my job is to make sure that you walk around the whole classroom because if you don't, then the video will be very boring and nobody will want to watch it. Also, remember to make sure that the video you are recording is steady and not to wiggling because if it is not steady, then it will be very hard for the person who is watching that video to focus on what you recorded.
If the videographer job was done poorly or not even done at all, then that would be really bad. Why? Well videos are really important, especially when you make the during Mystery Skype because Mystery Skype is a very awesome time and every one around the world might wan't to see it so if you don't make those videos, then not many people around the world will know how Mystery Skype goes in Mr. Solarz's class.

A signer holds up signs to the screen, and keeps signs by he/she.

The responsibility of a signer is to put up signs to the screen so that the other class can see the note. The main reason we have signs is if we can't hear the other class or we have bad connection we communicate with signs. This happened a lot when I was signer. The other class would be discussing or talking to each other and the questioners would ask the question. The other class would completely ignore them so I would put up a sign saying "Are you ready?" It could take them as long as 2 minutes to see the sign. During the job you have to be quick putting up the signs. If the questioners tell you to put up a certain sign, you have to put up that sign.
This is important to each Mystery Skype because it shows the other classroom visually what we want to say. Like I said, if there's bad connection or they can't hear us, we put up a sign to show what we want to say. If this job didn't get done, we wouldn't be able to to show the other classroom visually what we want to say. During Mystery Skype, probably a lot of people would get bored because we possibly can't hear another classroom and no matter how loud they are, we still can't hear them. It would probably ruin the whole point of Mystery Skype because we can't hear the other classroom's questions.
One thing to make this job more successful is to not hold up a sign for more than 5 seconds if they read and see the sign. I have seen kids do it longer than 5 seconds and it wastes time and it could annoys some people.

Questioners - By Regan

The questioner is perhaps the most important Mystery Skype job, alongside coming up with the questions. To do this job, you have to answer questions that the other class asks based on the information that the questioner's assistant shows you. You also have to pick one question from the Google Spreadsheet that the class comes up with to ask. To answer a question, you need to have proof shown to you by the questioner's assistants before you do so, even if you know the answer already.
This job is important because you have to ask questions in a Mystery Skype! Without this job, well... Mystery Skype would be kind of pointless. You also have the responsibility of answering the questions with proof that the other class asks. If that couldn't happen, there would be one class asking endless, unanswered questions.

Data Enterer-Mason

So for data enterer you have to enter the Yes or No in to the slot with the correct question in it.  You have to highlight the columns with the gray 3 color and you also bold the question and the Yes or No answer.  We usually split the highlighting and Yes No And Bold job among us.
So this job is Important because If we didn't have this job people might forget witch question we're on.  Or we might not know witch answer to base the next questions off of.  We wouldn't know what the questions were and the
questioners wouldn't be able to keep up.

So for this job there will be two people doing it at once. Usually you should switch off doing each part of the job each time you do a mystery Skype. So one of the things that you do in this job is bolding the question that the questioners say and writing either yes or no depending what the other class said. The other part that you do in this job is to highlight the whole row so that people know what row that we are answering questions in.
This job is important to Mystery Skype because if I wasn't to do this job people would not know what row they should put their questions and the questioners would not know what row they should pick the questions from. If you were not t put yes or no in the row that the questions picked the answer the people would not know what question to chose next like whether they should ask what state they live in or even what school they live in.
A trick for doing this job is to always listen to what question the questioners chose and also always make sure that we are asking questions on the right row. One more trick is that you have to be fast because the people are constantly putting in questions and they have to know where to put them

Task Master: By Jeremy

It is extremely important that there is a task master.  The main job of the task master is to make sure that everyone is on task and is doing well.  You need to make sure people are answering and asking questions.  If they haven't asked a question or submitted one they you need to politely remind them that a Mystery Skype is a team effort and suggest that they enter a few questions instead of researching.  You might want to give them a suggestion like "We know there state starts with A-L.  How can we cut that in half?"  Also, make sure that people have the tabs that they need open like a google maps tab, our spreadsheet (Mystery Skype #_ at paulsolarz.weebly.com/mystery-skype) and also maybe a new tab for quick researching.  If people are off task or aren't prepared to do something than a Mystery Skype will go to long and you will have to cancel.  Thus, it is extremely important to have a task master that know what they are doing and is actually doing it.
If you don't do this job the Mystery Skype won't work.  If people are off task they aren't getting any work done.  I have been in Mystery Skypes where there are no questions submitted and/or there is nobody working on the answers.  The other team is confused and we don't know what we are doing.  The Mystery Skype is very boring that way and the other class starts to think that we aren't responsible enough to be doing this.  Make sure that you are being polite when you remind people and get your questions/answers submitted as well

You walk around the room asking what the student's job is and then you ask how they do their job. You are taping them as they do their job. This is important because if other people across the country want to experience skyping a classroom they will have a better idea of how to do this.
Tips: Try to make your video pretty short, like 5 to 10 minutes longs.
When you stop the video upload it right away so you can be part of the activity.

Greeter By: Addie H.

The Greeters have very important jobs because they basically make the first impression of our class. The greeters would know what they would have to say because we split up the little opening speech so everyone gets a part. We we would say Hi we are super excited to mystery skype with you guys today my name is __ and my name is ___ I'm ___ and I'm _____. Then someone would say we have two ways to play back and forth with questions or if you get one correct you get a follow up question. Last we say do you want to go first or do you want us to go first? That is the end of our little opening but sometimes we have to do something else to. Every once and a while the class will play rock, paper, scissor, shoot with us and we select and Greeter to play against them. Of course in addition to being a Greeter you are still a researcher.
We need our Greeters because they help us figure out how were going to play and the order were going in. Our Greeters have to be really nice and friendly or else it will seem like were a bad mannered class and the other class probably won't want to mystery skype us again.
One thing that could make the job of Greeter better that works really well is to decide who will say what which we already do but sometimes we forget to do it. I also think it would be a good idea to pick someone to play rock, paper, scissor, shoot just in case.

Questioners Assistant - Ben

Hi i'm Ben, and my Mystery Skype job is the questioners assistant. During the period of time that this is your job, you will approve answers to questions asked by the other class. So the main part of this job is - The class asks a question, researchers check to see if there question is correct or incorrect. Then if a researcher thinks they have proof, they come over to you and you tell them wether that it is right or not. If they are right you can give them a thumbs up and then give them an "OK" to go and tell the questioners. Some tips and tricks for this job are, giving other people a chance to get approved answers and don't let the same people that rush over to get theres approved every time. Another tip is always have your Atlas open to the page that has the correct continent because you will need to check if answers are correct. The last tip or trick is to always double check if the answer that you have just approved because if it is not correct, that could be bad.
This job is very important to Mystery Skype because without it, if your answer to the question was wrong, then the whole thing would get messed up. Another reason why we need this job is because it helps all of the other jobs, like the researchers, we can give them feedback if they were not correct and help them. We can also help the questioners because they are the ones that ask all of the questions so we need them to be telling the other class the correct answer. If we did not have a questioners assistant, well lets just say Mystery Skype wouldn't be the best thing. So a quick overview of why it would be bad if we didn't have it. If answers to questions were wrong, no one would be able to tell the person.

Photographer - Alex

For the photographer job you need to be taking pictures for most of the period then you have to upload them with around 15 or 20 minutes left. If you use the camera you have to make sure you have a computer that has Iphoto on it. Then you go to to your, computer and download the photos to Iphoto be sure to use the cord connect it to the camera and the computer. You want to take pictures from all different angles not just one side. You also have to be sure to still type in questions and be active with the google spreadsheet. This is difficult if you are taking pictures the whole time so you have to type in a question before you take pictures. (At least this is what I did and it worked.)   The pictures have to be good and high quality not quantity. (You would rather have 12 good pictures than 30 bad ones.) You also don't want to take pictures of the screen because it is always blurry and Mr. Solarz said not to. You want to be taking pictures of something not just the room maybe a over the shoulder shot, or a picture of the questioners talking to the camera, things like that.
If the photographer is not done well you do have back-up because there is multiple photographers but that doesn't mean you shouldn't do it. The pictures are important because it goes to the daily photo journal on paulsolarz.weebly.com. So if they aren't three of them there we know the one of the photographers didn't do their job. This job has to be done well because if the pictures you select and take are blurry, they won't look good on the web especially on Mr. Solarz's page.

Closer and Thanker - JJ

For my mystery Skype job, I am the closer and thanker. At the end of the Skype, the closers will come up to the camera and share facts about our school and city, like one time, I told them we had seven hundred kids in our school, and the other class thought it was cool. So you keep doing that for a little and then you say thank you and wave goodbye. This job is very important because if there is nobody to thank the end of the mystery Skype doesn't really go that smooth.
This job can't not be done. It is very very very important and if this job is yours, if it isn't done, (as I said in the first paragraph) it is not a complete mystery Skype, it doesn't flow right. Just imagine if we ended by us guessing there city and the Skype would end just like that. It wouldn't sound right.
A little tip I would say is tell really cool facts at the beginning, then after that you can share how we do passion time, lit circles, etc. Then about our city and then stuuff like that

Questioner - Charlotte

Questioner

The questioner's job is actually quite simple; you ask the questions.  But for this job you have to be prepared to have background knowledge.  For example; one of the questions asks if we live on the north side of the Equator.  This should be an obvious one but I know that we need to have proof.  So first, when you have this job you have to kind of know some geography.  Like where the Mason Dixon Line is, or if we live near the Mississippi River.  So this job might seem a little hard and scary but it really is quite simple.  You have to make sure that you are on our mystery skype spreadsheet before we call them (the people we are skyping with).  You want to make sure that you checkover all the questions before you and the other questioners discuss and choose a question.  Make sure you always choose the best question on the whole list.  You are very lucky when you are the questioners because you, the other questioners, and Mr. Solarz are the only ones who can talk to the other people.  When you are asking the question you are going to need to speak loud so that they won't ask you to repeat the question.  This is actually a really fun job because you get to talk to other people around the world.
This job is important to each mystery skype session because if it wasn't done well, or at all, things would go very wrong.  Things would go wrong because since no one else is allowed to talk to the skypers then no one in our class would be talking to the computer, and that (once again), would be very bad.  If this job wasn't done well then we probably wouldn't even ever guess their country!

Questioner's assistant - by: Andrew

What you do for questioner's assistant is that you say that people can go show their proof to the questioners or not.
This is important because if you didn't do it would chaos. No one would be able to show their proof! This would be bad because then we wouldn't be able to do mystery skype!
