Reflection/Synthesis Questions:

  1. If you could make more changes to your poster board, what would you do? Why?
  2. What aspect of your poster board are you most proud of? Why?
  3. How did your speech improve once you had given it several times?
  4. In your opinion, why did it improve?
  5. What do you hope people learned from your poster board and presentation?
  6. What did you do to try to ensure that they learned those things?
  7. What things were surprisingly easy for you today that you thought might have been harder?
  8. What things were difficult today. Why were they hard for you?
  9. What comments were people telling you about your message? What did they say that was meaningful?

  1. I would not have used cool design scissors because it doesn't look that great. I also would have taken the titles on one of the sides and put them on the same piece of paper.
  2. I am most proud of our title because there is a ribbon on it which makes it pop out and there is also a great picture that looks very nice on there.
  3. I stuttered a lot less because I knew what I had to talk about and what to do.
  4. In my opinion it got better because I knew what I was talking about and what to do better.
  5. I hope they learned how leadership works not just in our classroom, but in our school. I also hope they learned how we show student leadership.
  6. I tried to focus on those the most. I did that so they would really understand.
  7. Looking people in the eye was what I thought would be harder and was pretty easy.
  8. I think that it was the hardest to remember what to talk about at first because it was new to me talking in front of people.

Global School Play Day 2018

2/7/2018

Reflection/Synthesis Questions:

  1. Why does Peter Gray feel that children need more experience playing games without adult interference? (Remember: All answers need follow-up sentences! Your answer is always better by the 2nd and 3rd sentences!)
  2. How did you improve your creativity, improvisation, teamwork, and initiative skills today? If you don't know what some of these skills are, please ask me!
  3. Why should other teachers do Global School Play Day in their classrooms?
  1. He feels that way because not many kids know what to do during their free time. They usually ask their parent what to do instead of playing with their creativity. If they don't ask a parent what to  do they just most likely play on electronics but, a long time ago kids didn't have electronics so they were more creative and, would play made up games and now kids don't usually use there creativity they just ask someone what to do or play on electronics.
  2. I just kind of made up rules that were kind of different and, I wouldn't have thought about  making them before to make the game more fun. I improved my teamwork by taking everyone's ideas in to account and adding onto them or improving them sometimes to make them better.
  3. They should have it in their classrooms because it can teach their kids to be more creative and even help them to improve their creativity and teamwork. They should also do it to teach them that electronics are not life or they could because it is fun.

  1. What did you learn about air in this session (that took a couple periods)? Hopefully, you learned at least three BIG IDEAS!
  2. What evidence do you have to explain the phenomenon that air takes up space (we didn't prove this in our video, but learned it in the first days of the lesson)?
  3. What evidence do you have to explain the phenomenon that air has weight?
  4. When Mr. Solarz watches your video, will he be able to find problems with your "proof" that air has weight? Remember when we watched videos together as a class he mentioned a few ways teachers could trick their students - make sure you didn't use any trickery!
  1. I learned that air has weight. I also learned that air takes up space, and that has everywhere not just down.
  2. Well, we did this expirement that proved air takes up space, where we put a cup with paper on the bottom face down  into a bucket of water and the paper stayed dry because there was no more room in cup.
  3. There is another expirement where we put balloons on a stick and popped one and the side with the full balloon rose up higher than the other.
  4. Maybe because it looked kind of like 1 of us pushed it up or down.

Something that surprised me was that in 2150 the world will not have enough room for us and we will have to occupy another planet! Something else that was surprising was that 60% of our population is from Asia. But it was upsetting that 17% of our population is under nourished. Something I wish were different is that I wish money was spread out more evenly. I thought this needed some improving because it is unfair that some people make less than $5 a day. I could help by, raising a chairity to give money to the poor and that could improve the problem.

Liquids

  • particles in liquids flow and fill the space they're in, following the rules of gravity
  • liquids can always be seen except for those that are to small  or transparent, or soaked into a solid
  • Assuming good health conditions, that you are trying to feel it, that we can always feel liquids
  • Has a definite volume

Gases

  • particles in gases flow and fill the space they're in, ignoring the rules of gravity
  • we can rarely see gases except for when the particles are big enough like steam or our breath in the winter
  • Has a indefinite shape and volume

Solid: book

  • hard
  • not malleable
  • light in weight
  • colorful
  • pages are bendable
  • pages are able to rip

Liquid: water

  • transparent
  • indefinite shape
  • reflective

 Gas: air

  • transparent
  • warm
  1. What unique properties can be used to identify a material as a solid?
  2. What unique properties can be used to identify a material as a liquid?
  3. What unique properties can be used to identify a material as a gas?
  4. Do you think most solids we can see such as wood, rice, and flour could be divided into smaller and smaller pieces?
  5. Based on this information, what do you think solid matter is made up of?
  6. What do you think liquids and gases are made up of?
  1. One unique property of a solid is having a definite shape. Another unique property is that all of  the particles in a solid don't move around.
  2. Liquids have the unique property of that they are fluid. It can also turn into a solid or a gas.
  3. One Unique property is that gases ignore the rules of gravity and they also are rarely seen.
  4. Yes, because if you smashed all of those tings with a hammer they would turn into smaller pieces.
  5. I think they are made up of molecules and atoms they are firmly and tightly packed together to make up a solid.
  6. More atoms and molecules that move and sway around.

  1. What is YOUR definition of matter?
  2. Explain how you came up with that definition.
  3. Scientists define matter as...
  1. My definition of matter is that Matter is a bunch of tiny particals put together. Matter makes up everything including YOU!
  2.  How I came up with this definition: I thought about what we learned and made my definition from there.
  3. Scientists define matter as: "physical substance in general, as distinct from mind and spirit; (in physics) that which occupies space and possesses rest mass, especially as distinct from energy."
