Today, we learned that the hatfield family had been sick. there was an argument about it and how we should fix it. Mr. McCoy suggested that we should leave them behind, but John smith said that he can't make the decisions but only himself. Our four wagons said we could send them back to fort kearney for resting and then they could go on the trail and continue with another train, but John Smith said he didn't want to do Mr. McCoy's decision. he said he wanted to do a good decision, but just not Mr. McCoy's. We got confused because that was the only good solution, but someone stood up and said, "We could leave them behind about half a mile so we don't get sick." We agreed and went on with our day. The only problem with that solution was where would they sleep? I thought but didn't say that out loud. The next day, we had another problem with another sickness. Someone up ahead said that another family was sick, and we needed another solution. We all were bummed out because there was already 2 families that were sick, and we weren't even half way on the trail (not even close). We sent out doctors and they confirmed that they were in fact, sick and we needed to stay away and have stable sanitary bodies. That night, when I went to bed I looked outside my tent and saw something, it as the McCoys! I was confused and turned on my laptop to see it was 3:00 in the morning. They were laughing and saying something about a family, but I didn't want to drop in on the conversation because that would be very rude! The next morning, I had some bacon and hardtack that I didn't eat from about a week ago. There was 10 more families sick, and this was getting weird. The wagon train was very nervous about the sicknesses and we decided we could only send them back to fort kearney. We did just that, and I thought that was that, and nothing else but the same day, everyone got horrible sicknesses. At dinner, the food tasted bad because of my apdetite being almost invinsible. At the end of the day, everyone had to go back and instead of going to Oregon, we went back east and there we had proper care and we had been recovered. After that, some people decided to go back west but I stayed because of the things that happened when we weren't even halfway there! |
