Dear Journal, Just as we were about to make it to Mars, Mr. Gagne thought it might be fun to push some buttons on the spaceship, causing our ship to began hurtling towards earth at the speed of light. We landed in Independence, Missouri. Not too bad, right? But instead of landing in 2017 again, we landed in 1843! At least we proved the theory of relativity. The local people of Independence were pretty shocked. The newspaper thought that we were a UFO or an alien spacecraft. We actually squashed a man under our spaceship. Sorry... At least he was holding a big bag of gold. Since we didn't know where we are before we got out of the spaceship, we had a couple of our crew members go out and try to figure out where we were. Our friends were greeted by a man who said his name was James McVee. He was a farmer from South Carolina who had come to Missouri. He He also sells wagons and horses. Mr. McVee eyed the bag of gold and asked the crew member who went out if he would like to buy a horse. The crew member was not satisfied with the horses he introduced, Lightning, Perfectly Able, and Spanish-Speaking Horse. Mr. McVee said if nobody is buying, then they aren't allowed in the store, so we sent another person out. This time, Mr. Mcvee told us where we were and what year it was. We were surprised to learn how far we went in the past. He questioned the bag of gold, and asked why we were here. He also asked if we were going west too. The current crew member said that we were headed west for the following reasons: cheap land, gold, the east was to crowded, and manifest destiny. |
