This is one of the spacesuits that can we use on Mars.

Inside spacesuits they have to be very thick but still very protective. The spacesuits will keep us warm by having something called Silica Aerogel inside it.

Problems

Solutions

  • If a dust storm were to happen, we wouldn't know what to do.
  • People could get very bored and not want to stay inside.
  • What if people are outside during the dust storms?
  • If we used solar panels, they wouldn't work during dust storms.
  • Natalia will train people what to do when the storms come and happen and when there starting.
  • There is going to be a space suit that can protect people from the storms(Look Above)
  • We will have a walkie talkie signal to alert people about the bad storm and needs some help.
  • When on lockdown, we will all do something that corresponds with our job (e.g Luis Gomez will study rock samples from Mars, Chloé Laurent and Simon Müller will repair spacesuits, ect.)
  • People on missions will have to stay in shelter (Tents).

Electrical fires can be very dangerous, watch this video to see how they can expand quickly.

Here are some ways we can prevent electrical fires on mars.

  • Avoid overloading electrical circuits. WHY? You will use less energy and you will have less of a chance of having an electrical.
  • Replace any old wiring WHY? Back in the old in days, they did not use energy as much. Today we use electricity a ton more. Older wiring will not be able to withstand how much electricity we use today. On mars, we need to make sure ALL our wiring is newer and can withstand how much energy we are going to use on mars.
  • On mars we also need to make sure all of our electrical units are UL - listed. WHY? UL listed is globally recognized electrical safety standards organization. If our electricity is not UL listed, it will make our electricity more dangerous

Should use both energy sources both Solar and Wind.  Solar to charge the batteries for safe use. Then the wind turbine if there is no sun out that day. We can also power it using gasoline because Mars is very cold we would like to pollute it to make it warmer.

Life on Mars?

Scientists found evidence of small roundish objects that could be bacteria. Plus some minerals and organic molecules that might have been made by bacteria. There is also some evidence that there used to be water on mars a long time ago. 

Some things we have to deal with:

The problem is we don't know if there will be any life on mars so we have to make sure we are sanitary so we don't spread Earth germs around or with mars germs. We also don't want to spread Earth viruses

Things that could happen

Solutions to those problems

  • We could starve to death/die of thirst. We need the water to mix together the astronaut food that NASA gave us.
  • We could run out of water on Mars! So we need to make our own or find a reliable source.
  • All of our plants could die, which means that we wouldn't have a reliable source of food.
  • The plants that cure diseases could die and we wouldn't have medicine to cure some types sicknesses!
  • Our idea to grow plants won't work, and we won't be prepared for when we run out of astronaut food! We won't have any fruits or vegetables to eat!
  • Bring enough food to last us for about sol 100.
  • Find some way to make water on Mars.
  • Have a back-up plan in case our plants die.
  • We could have another back-up plan for the medicine plants, or bring a bunch of medicine and make sure to use it wisely.
  • We will bring as may back-up plans as possible, meaning that if the first idea doesn't work then we go onto the next, if one of our back-up doesn't work we go onto another and so on.
  • We should be prepared in case the worst happens.
This video shows an example of a person actually making water they way we will on Mars!

Flowers That Can Cure Diseases:

Lady Ferns: The juices released will quickly ease stinging nettle burns and can also ease minor cuts, stings and burns

California Poppy: The plant is an effective nervine (anxiety reliever) and is safe for use on agitated children. Can be made into  a tea for quick relief of nervousness and tension. A stronger decoction will offer pain relief.

Blood Flower: it's also historically favored as a heart stimulant and worm expellant.

Korean Mint: Mint is famous for soothing headaches, fighting nausea, calming the stomach and reducing nervousness and fatigue.

Alfalfa: It can heal kidney stones, kidney pain and urinary discomfort

Catnip: It's useful in breaking a fever as it promotes sweating. Catnip also helps stop excessive bleeding and swelling when applied rather than ingested.

Sage:
It is anti-flammatory, anti-oxidant, and antifungal.

Blackberry:
The leaves and root can be used as an effective treatment against dysentery and diarrhea as well as serving usefulness as an anti-inflammatory and astringent. Ideal for treating cuts and inflammation in the mouth.

Wild Quinine:
is used as an antiperiodic, emmenagogue, kidney, lithontriptic, poultice. It has traditionally been used in alternative medicine to treat debility, fatigue, respiratory infection, gastrointestinal infection, and venereal disease.

We will be landing in the upper right corner.  It is near where the Pheonix lander landed in 2008. It is about 500 miles away from the ice cap which is a source of water.
