Imagination Club is a time on Tuesdays from 11:05 to 12:05 that kids get to do work and work on what they want. For instance, Drawing, or building with building blocks or legos! Sometimes we have a fun assignment like we had to think about what a constitution on mars would be like. You can find it here: http://paulsolarz.weebly.com/student-creations-round-.  It is very fun. I did a project on having kids vote on what there favorite Olympic Sport is. The favorite was Track and Field.

Google Hangouts to Share Passion Projects - Lucas V.

6/2/2015

When we do Passion Time Projects we sometimes use Google Hangouts with other classes who do it too.  We would take turns and share each others' projects and talk about them.  We would compliment them ad ask questions about it if we had any.  I think it is a very important lesson because it is nice to share projects with each other, get compliments, and questions.  It could also even help improve yours in the future.

Images

We share our Passion Time Projects and listen to other class' projects too.  We collaborate and ask questions.

End of The Year Interviews

6/2/2015

To set up the end of the year interviews Mr. Solarz has a spreadsheet and you sign up for a day that is good for you to do your interview. Then when it is your day you go to the green screen room and you sit in a chair and Mr. Solarz asks you simple questions about why you liked his learning way and what you learned. Then you are done! It is pretty simple!

If the World were a Village-Ryan

6/2/2015

In this story, a person narrows down the world to a villiage, of 100 people, and tells you what goes on in the villiage. For instance, 21 of the people would speak Chinese. 61 of the people would be from Asia. That means that there is more people in Asia then then rest of the world combined.

When we went to Brookfield Zoo, it was very fun and educational. It was interesting and we got to see animals that we wouldn't be able to see by our houses. We had to do 5 videos about the Animals telling about the animal and some facts about its life. It was very fun to eat lunch there and get to see all the animals living there life up close.
These are some pictures of Last years class because we didn't have any this year.  We would do little newscasts on them and learn about the animals. We also had lunch there and we got to see all the animals.

Hands On Algebra - Kaela

I love hands on algebra because our classmates are willing to help each other and not just that but because Mr. Solarz teaches algebra in a fun way by not doing lectures but using little examples and we give it names and instead of looking one balancer and not understanding it we al have our own and see the visual loud and clear. And I love that because Mr. Solarz wants us to learn and make sure t understand and he believes in making it dun but you can still learn! But what I love is that my friends are helping me in a nice and fun way!

Images

These images show you that all of our classmates are willing to help each other as you cans see and others may be learning while they're at it while being taught and they could truly connect with another kid so it's easier to talk to them and help them!

21st Century report Cards - Emily

21st Century report cards is when we all sit down in a classroom meeting and Mr. Solarz gives us a little talk then he says don't be sad about your grades. He gives us our report cards and we look at them and we look at grades and comments. Then he gives us a packet and we kind of ask ourselves how we have done with leadership and doing first things first and getting everything done.
This is a picture of someone getting there report card. And seeing what my grades are.

Energy Labs are fun ways of learning different things for example you can learn about boring stuff ind cool ways. This works by getting instructions and doing the activity. Then at the end of the lesson you will usually be assigned a blog that is fun.

E-portfolio Blogs- Stacy

Thank you Mr. Solarz for E-portfolio Blogs. Instead of worksheets, tests, packets, etc, we do blogs! When we do something important at school, we make a blog and we include pictures, videos, and reflection questions. We have 1 week to do each blog that is assigned. We have to finish ever blog that is assigned by the end of each trimester. The blogs will go against our grade. Much better than the hard stuff!

This lesson taught us that the leaves were different year round. To do the lesson we got some different leaves and when we looked it up we found the answers and why they did. I personally thought that this lesson was really valuable, and that Mr. Solarz taught it well to learn this lesson.

The PARCC tests are a new standardized test that is taken on paper, the tests are timed and they are not that long but it is a hard test to take. The PARCC tests are timed and they are taken twice in the year. They got moved in in place of the ISAT tests. I like the PARCC tests a little bit.
This is a slide show of some PARCC test pictures.

We read a book called "Wonder." It was about a boy named Auggie with Craniofacial differences. He was going to a new school and had a hard time with other kids. It was a fun book that we enjoyed as a class, and learned a bit about. It really made us think differently. It is really valuable to read because it teaches us a lesson about friendship.

Here are some pictures of us while reading wonder, and analyzing characters from wonder.

During the first couple weeks of school we played grammar games. We had to practice our grammar in  the beginning of the year so playing grammar games is very important and valuable. Also, by playing grammar games, we would get something because we would be learning various different strategies.

These are some of our Revolutionary war hero projects. We got to choose someone that was part of the revolutionary war. We researched about our person and got to learn lots of interesting facts. Then we made letters, a backpack, a travel brochure, a medal, a summary, a poem, and a picture. Then we put them on a poster and did a video about it.

Thing-link is a website that we learned to use during the year. Thinglink is a website that you can insert a picture in it and then you put a tag on it and then the tag is linked to a certain thing like maybe a video or a website. In my own opinion thinglink was a great way for the kids to put many different things into one, Mr. Solarz introduced it to us in the beginning of the year and it was a very good was to use it for a lot of different things.

Voki is a great way to learn because you can create a person and you can talk and have it sound like you or you can type and it can sound like a voki! You can use it for simulations or for fun.

Literature Circles Discussions - Kaela

6/1/2015

Literature circles discussions is when you discuss on a topic and that you have to share your ideas and find evidence to support your answer so it is sort of like a debate and that you have to find your proof and I really like this because I feel lie it's improving our ability to find our proof and how to politely disagree with others and have a real conversation and finding out what's correct. And I think the main point is to make sure to find your proof before you speak. And I really enjoy debating and finding about other people's thoughts and opinion's.

Images

These are the images that shows the discussions and I love it because it shows the two sides of the discussion.

It was very fun to go to the Historical Reenactment, we learned about a lot of the professions in the revolutionary war. We learned a lot about trappers, land agents, frontiers men, and much more. I learned some very interesting facts about the patriots because some of them actually ran hotels and things that the British Soldiers lived in. At the beginning there were a line of people with muskets that were not loaded with musket balls. it was very loud and the muskets took about one minute to reload.
Here are some pictures of the Historical Reenactment. It was very fun to go there and we learned a lot about the old times.

Each student gets there own kindergarten buddy. Our jobs are to boost there confidence and make them feel like a superhero. I really like kindergarten buddy's because they become your friend and you become there friend. You get to play with them and I love doing that because it puts a smile on there face. I like knowing that they look up to me. The kindergarteners are great friends to have because they always put a smile on your face.
