  1. Name your Control Variables (What will stay the same for each of the three cups)?
  2. Name the Independent Variable (What is it that is different for each of the three cups)?
  3. Name your Dependent Variable (What is it that you are testing & recording data on?)
  4. What data are you collecting to serve as Evidence to show how plants grow in organic material versus inorganic planting material?
  5. Why is everyone starting with the same three cups? Why do we need to test so many plants?
  6. What sprouts first in a seed: the stem or the root?
  7. How do you know? How do the pictures below help explain your answer for #6?
  8. Why do you think it goes in that order?

Independent Variable Plant seeds in different kinds of soil (e.g. potting soil, perlite, sand, etc.)

Dependent Variables Measure the height of each plant at certain checkpoints.

Evidence We can record our data using measurements (in cm).

KinderPals

  1. What is the KinderPals Program?
  2. In what ways do you think the program benefits the kindergartners? Try to explain several with support.
  3. Why is the KinderPals program beneficial to 5th graders? Believe it or not, you should be getting something out of the program as well!
  4. What challenges did you experience in KinderPals this year?
  5. What improvements could be made to the program for next year?
  6. Do you think the kindergartners enjoyed the stories from Peekapak? Why do you think that? Do you have any evidence to support your answer?
  1. It is a great program for little kids to learn important virtues like this time we are teaching are buddies about Honesty. It reminds me of Skills 21 which is a practically older kid version of peekapack which is really fun. I think that peekapack is a great way for kids to learn important things in fun ways.
  2. I think is helps them get ready for situations when they need to use these virtues in their life and how to use them. It really fun to also teach them about these important vocabulary that they need to learn but do not know about yet. This is in my opinion the best way to teach little kids important things in life in the most fun way possible.
  3. It is beneficial for me because it reminds myself of certain skills that I mostly forgot about. It also teaches me some virtues I still need to work on and how I am able to use them better
  4. With my partner was not a very vocal speaker but I got to know him and made him more and more comfortable with me. I finally was able to make him a more talkative person and he became a great friend.
  5. I think that maybe they could make it a little more realistic. I think that they could make the situations more realistic and the characters. I also think that the books at the end could have a quote that showed what they learned. Or put a summary at the ended to clarify what happened for the kindergarteners.
  6. I think they liked it but some of the books were kinda childish that I read and they didn't really enjoy as much as the more grown up book. In my opinion the kids like to feel more mature about what they are reading than childish. I do think they really like the program even though sometimes things are childish. My evidence is that my buddy had a lot of fun doing the act it outs and just really enjoyed it. But when it came to the childish part my buddy didn't have as much fun then when we did the more mature and fun things.

Plants as Producers

5/3/2018

  1. Plants need energy and matter to grow. Where do plants get their ENERGY?
  2. Where do plants get their MATTER?
  3. Where do plants get their FOOD (be careful - this is a trick question)?
  4. Why are plants called Producers?
  5. What would happen if plants didn't have a way to get energy?
  6. What would happen to animals if there were no plants to eat?
  7. What are some of the LIVING components of a plant "system"? (A plant "system" is everything that a plant needs to survive and everything it produces.)
  8. What are some of the NON-LIVING components of a plant "system"?
  9. In what ways do the components of the system interact?
  10. What matter is transported in and out of the plant system?
  1. The plant gets matter from the sun which they use for energy and growth.
  2. They get it from water, soil, and The sun. The plants also take in carbon dioxide and give out oxygen for us to breath.
  3. The food that plants eat is sun and they eat it through their leaves. They are able to also take in carbon dioxide and turn it into oxygen through the same place.
  4. Plants are called producers because they are at the bottom of the food chain and they produce the energy and matter for other animals that eat them.
  5. If plants could not get not get energy that would mean all animals would die. This would happen because plants are the producers of energy for animals so that would means animals could not live from no energy.
  6. The food chain would all slowly die out because they would not be able to to move without the energy provided by plants.
  7. In a plant system their are bugs that live in them and also pollinate them.
  8. There is Water, soil, and the sun which are all things that are not living but help a plant big time.
  9. Well the plant goes through the cycle of photosynthesis and the plant interacts with all these things in different ways. One way that it interact is the sun gets used in a plant for energy.
  10. Carbon Dioxide comes through the leaves and out as Oxygen for us to breath.

Players in an Ecosystem

  1. Choose one of your Food Chains that you created and explain how it works.
  2. Can a Food Web be considered a "system"? Why or why not?
  3. What happens if a plant or animal all of a sudden disappears from the food web?
  4. Using this food chain, "sunlight to apple to worm to bird to cat," How do organisms in this food chain get the matter they need for body repair and growth?
  5. Using the same food chain in #4, How do organisms in that food chain get the energy they need for body warmth and motion?
  6. What do you think happens to the matter that is NOT used by the organisms in a food chain or food web? Is it wasted or does something else happen?

  1. My food chain of six animals worked because it started form a plant. In my food chain is went from the biggest predator which was Hawks to the least which was dead leaves. I also made sure that each Animal ate the other thing in front of it to make it a legit food chain.
  2. Yes because the animals are interacting with living things and non-living things. They are also eating other animals and objects.
  3. If an animal in a food chain went instinct  it would mess up the whole food chain. It would cause one  of the other animals to die of because they can't eat that animal that disappeared. It would make the whole system crash
  4. When an animal gets matter from another animal or plant some of that goes to helping the animal grow and repair itself. With the left over matter the animal didn't use is store for other animal  to have for energy.
  5. Plant get energy from the starter in the food chain. Most of the time a plant is the first in the chain and it has some energy which is eaten by something else for energy. After that the cycle keeps going until that animal dies and nothing else eats it.
  6. After the animal uses the matter for energy and other things it stores it inside it's body. That is how other animals get their own energy in the food chain. The matter goes from the start of the food chain to the end. When each animal eats it the matter gets lower and lower until there is none.

What is a Ecosystem?

Lake Ecosystem Interactions

within a living thing

  • ducks are eating bugs and grass
  • ducks eat fish (most of them)
  • Ducks also eat insects
  • Ducks will also eat other smaller animals

between living & non-living things

  • ducks are breathing oxygen
  • ducks swim in water
  • ducks drink and clean themselves
  • plants eat the soil and drink the water

Picture

Lake Ecosystem Interactions

  • The fishes eat the works and bugs around them
  • The fishes eat allergy in their area
  • Some fish live in plants or other living things
  • The fishes will eat animals that are smaller than them
  • The fishes swims in the water
  • They also breath in the water and make bubbles
  • Fish live and sleep in water
  • The fishes have to live away from bad bacteria
  1. What kinds of living things (organisms) do you see in both pictures?
  2. What other living things might be here, even if you can't see them in the photos?
  3. Why might living things in these photos interact with each other?
  4. Read the BIG IDEA below. How do these pictures depict an ecosystem?
1. There are a lot of living things in the pictures. In the first one their was ducks, grass, and other living bugs in the water. their was also in the background trees and plants. In the second picture there is fish, plants, and it looks like something is growing on the bottom of the water.

2. In the pictures there is probably a lot of other animals under the water. Probably bugs and more animals. Maybe some other things growing on the lake. There are lots of animals and you can probably go on and on about how much are in the lake.

3. Sometimes they need to eat these things and drink something. They also need them sometimes to grow and stay strong in health. Sometimes they also just want to play around in it or clean itself.

4. They show how living things interact with other living things and what happens in a ecosystem. It also shows how living things interact with non-living things which is the main part of a ecosystem. It also showed what type of ecosystem the certain animals were in. In the picture the Environment was a lake/body of water.

Click for the Preamble

  1. What was the hardest part of writing your preamble? Explain how you overcame that challenge.
  2. What is your favorite part of your preamble? Why is that part powerful and important?
  3. What is the purpose of a preamble in a constitution? What does it do?
  1. The biggest problem I faced was finding a place to put my sentences/words in the right spots. For example when I was writing my Bill of Rights I needed to make sure that what I was writing would fit in the category it was in. How I fixed this problem was reading through each sentence I and seeing which spot best fit the words. After I sorted these out I didn't have any trouble with this problem anymore.
  2. My favorite part of the preamble was when I talked about what we our able to do. I like this part because it shows the important things that we are aloud to do in are country. To me this really stood out to me as a powerful and great massage.
  3. The purpose of a preamble is to show the liberty and justice we have in are country. It shows people what we are and aren't able to do in our county and what is illegal and not illegal. It really shows are rights and are way of life in our country, Dustania.
