Reflection Questions:

  1. How did the temperatures of the water in the two red Solo cups compare at the beginning?
  2. What happened to the temperature of the cold water over time?
  3. What happened to the temperature of the warm water over time?
  4. How did your graph show what happened? Explain carefully!
  5. After 15 minutes, what did you notice about the lines on your graph?
  6. What happened to make the temperature of the cold water get warmer?
  7. What happened to make the temperature of the warm water get colder?
  8. Use your line graph to predict when the two lines would merge. Describe. Why did you choose this timeframe?
  9. Which direction did the heat energy move?
Picture

Answers:

  1. They both had water in them. They also had some energy as well as  being in the same type of cup.
  2. The cold water got warmer and had more energy. This was because the water was below room temperature so the temperature of the room warmed up the water.
  3. The water cooled down over time because it was hotter then room temperature. It also lost energy.
  4. My graph shows the cold water rising and the warm water decreasing in temperature.
  5. They went in different directions. The warm water went down and the cold water went up in temperature.
  6. The room temperature was higher then the temperature of the water.
  7. The room temperature was colder then the water.
  8. I think it would take one hour forty five minutes. Because the lines aren't going together as fast as they were.
  9. The heat energy moved up.

Reflection & Synthesis Questions:

  • Where is energy found?
  • What forms of energy are easiest to notice? Which ones are hardest to notice?
  • Do some items possess more than one form of energy? If so, which ones?
  • Why is energy important?
  • Describe how your group worked together.  What collaboration happened?  Were there any challenges?

Answers:

  • Everywhere but all energy starts from the sun
  • Motion energy is the easiest to find and the hardest is chemical energy in my opinion
  • Yes swings have gravitational and motion energy
  • Energy is important because if energy wasn't here we wouldn't be here because we have energy
  • My group worked together by having one person write down one take the pictures and the rest look for energy

First river

Reflection/Synthesis Questions:

  1. What were you trying to create in today's lab?
  2. What improvements did we make to the model from trial to trial? After you list each improvement, explain why we made that change and explain if it helped or not.
  3. What did the final model demonstrate for us? Was there anything that didn't work out? If so, what were we not able to demonstrate?
  4. What would have been challenging for you if you were asked to do this entire lesson on your own?

Second river

Picture

Answers:

1. A natural flowing river that showed meanders and erosion.

2. We took away one of the books so it wasn't as steep and it would hopefully make more meanders then it being as steep.

3.The final product was able to show meanders, deposition, and erosion but we couldn't make big meanders

4. it would have bean hard for me to come up with having a lot of rocks by the hole and coming up with the idea of the pan with the hole.
