These four videos represent my best explanation of energy transfers:

ENERGY BALL - chemical to sound

DANCING WATER SPEAKER - electrical to sound

MESSAGE FAN - Electrical to motion and light.
Sound is a byproduct

1. What was your favorite station? Why?

2. Which object was most difficult to figure out? Why was it so hard to figure out the energy transfers in this object?

3. Which three stations do you feel very confident that you figured out correctly? Describe one and explain what made it so obvious.

4. Was it always possible to know for sure what kinds of energy transfers occurred?

LOVE THERMOMETER - heat to motion to gravitational

Answers:

My favorite station was the energy ball because Mr. Solarz taught me how the electric current goes through our bodies to make the ball buzzing. This was surprising to me because I thought it would make noise if any finger touched it and that wasn't true. The people had to be touching as well!
The Galileo Thermometer was the hardest for me to figure out because I didn't really know how it worked. The orbs inside seemed to be floating, but some were sinking! When I learned that the temperature caused the orbs to sink and float, I was surprised. My warm hands made the top orbs rise, and the fan blowing on the thermometer made the orbs sink.
My three stations that I feel most confident about are the Dancing Water Speaker, the Message Fan, and the Love Thermometer. I feel most confident about the Message Fan because it was obvious that electricity powered it, making it spin and light up, and that sound was a byproduct.
Unfortunately, no. I wish it made it obvious, but there was a lot of interpretation to be done. Mr. Solarz said we just had to try to make sense of it all and explain it the best way we could. I think we found most of the energy transfers, but I'm sure there are a few we missed.

We created a natural/realistic river model.
On the second try we added more rocks and clay/play doh to try to make the water flow more naturally.
The final model demonstrated a river. There wasn't anything that didn't work out and the river carving into the stuff.
