Here is my explanation of the electoral college: When all of the votes get in they count them up. If republicans get the majorities of the votes then they get all of the electoral votes for that state. And then whoever gets 270 electoral votes win! Some states are called swing states, and they vary every election. It is important for the candidates to win these swing states because it gives them extra electoral votes. But most states are either a red state, or a blue state. These states the candidates can count on to get there electoral votes!
Here is my explanation of why most of the states are red, but how Hillary Clinton won the popular vote: Even though Hillary Clinton got more popular votes, but Donald Trump won the electoral votes! That is because Trump won more states! Hillary might of got a big majority in some states, but Trump won more states than her. So the states gave him more electoral votes!
Illinois has traditionally been a Democratic state when it comes to Presidential Elections. Explain why. It is because Illinois has a big city in Chicago. Typically, the big cities side with the democrat candidate. That has been the case with Illinois for the past election! That concept is kind of weird to me. The rural areas usually republican. So states like Texas usually side with the republicans.
Whether you're happy or not, what are some things you hope that President Trump will be able to do for our country over the next four years. If you're not sure, Google it and research what his plans are. I hope that president Trump will be a good president. I hope he helps gun wrights, improve security, and improve education. The biggest thing for me is getting the country out of debt. Part of that is making good trade choices. I hope he protects our country and becomes a good president.
Red States = Electoral votes go to republicans.
Blue States = Electoral votes go to democrats
Teal States = There are partial results
