Kaela's Reflection:
This passion time round was amazing and here's why. I learned that there is this therapy called exposure therapy where lets say that a person who has a fear of dirt like for people with OCD. They would surround them with dirt or make them hold the dirt and they might make then do gardening. Another new fact that I learned was that there is pills that you can take for you to feel more happy when the patient takes it. The most fun was to look at the colorful videos and to learn about it. It was also fun researching and talking about this with my partner about what we learned. What was difficult was trying to understand the big words and also to put them into my own words. It was also hard trying to find different ways for cures because there were the same cures and that there weren't a lot. It was easy summarizing what it meant because I did a lot of researching on each of them so it was easy. It was also easy doing the format and putting them into my own words because I was really interested in this topic. Next time I will try to use good an big words and not to ramble on with my text. I will also try to put in more pictures to make it more interesting and not so depressed. If I would have to give advice I would have to say to be prepared for anything inappropriate and try not to be to immature about it and also if it starts to scare you like it did with us because we were a little uncomfortable about some topics so we compromised and Kendall did this and did that and if you can't handle it you might have to switch topics. This was really fun and interesting and I learned a lot and I always wanted to learn about the brain!
Kendall's Reflection:
This was the most interesting passion time project I've ever done this year, mostly because I learned so much about mental diseases! I learned all about the diseases and what they do. I was surprised to learn that people with bipolar disorder have some times where they are incredibly happy, and also times when they have depression. I liked having a partner for this round because some of the information was sad and hard to understand, but Kaela helped me understand it and we worked together. I also liked watching Ted Ed talks because they helped me understand my topic more and more. I would tell other people to be ready to learn a lot, because there was so much information on each website. They also need to be prepared, because a lot of mental diseases are sad to learn about. Kaela and I had a hard time learning about some diseases, but we collaborated and decided on which ones we would want to learn about. I want to learn more about these diseases when I'm older, because then I will be able to understand them more. I will also be able to help cure them. Some of the cures I learned about were therapy, where people could talk about their feelings and what happens with their disease. Since I would like to be a doctor when I grow up, I want to help people who have a disease get through it and hopefully get cured. One thing that shocked me was that people can see things that aren't really there if they have schizophrenia. I am interested in learning more about schizophrenia and how to cure the hallucinations. I want to learn more about this topic because I learned so much and had a really good time!
