Can we learn about gliders and then make them out of household materials?(Mason and Mathew)

K

We know how aerodynamics work, we know how to make a paper airplane, we also knew that they have to have long wings and that they have to have the right amount of force and they have to have a certain part to them that helps them fly far.

L

We leaned that interfering with the airflow around the the wings can make it go farther, but if you use the balloon as an engine it barley works.

W

We want to know how to make a glider and we want to learn about gliders, but most of all we want to make a successful glider from different materials besides paper.

A

We first learned about gliders then we started testing the gliders and making all sorts of combinations, then we experimented with a lot of materials.  We made a lot of videos and we watched how other people made gliders.

H

We will learn it by researching about gliders, and by researching how to make good gliders and make our own and doing multiple tests and making multiple gliders and choosing the best one to improve.

Q

We still want to experiment with more materials and make the wings longer and I also want to use maniacal stuff like engines and try to use the right materials.
Matthew:
I thought that the project was really fun because it took a lot of creativity to make the gliders and come up with the design.  It was also fun putting those ideas to the test, there was a lot of trial and error but there were a lot of good ideas to like we made a balloon an engine, we also used them as a parachute, and the best idea that we had was using straws to tamper with the airflow over the wings.  I also learned a lot about gliders like they have to fly through a certain air flow and they can go as high as the stratosphere, and they get their power from a plane that takes them up into the air.  Overall I think we made a lot of good gliders the best one being the one with the straws on it but I definitely learned that regular paper airplanes work the best unless you add a machine to one.
Mason:
I thought the project was fun, but I wish we had gotten more done though.  Most of the gliders didn't fly very well.  The original glider had for wings and the center was a paper towel roll, we called it the dragon fly.  It flew one to two feet, the next glider was a paper air plane that had a balloon taped to the back of it.  It flew terribly the balloon only slowed it down.  The next one was ballon propeled...  Still flew terribly.  I feel that our project wasn't as good as past ones I've done.  But I had a good time.

Can I Teach Others Different Types of Origami Folds and 3-D Figures? By Regan and Shreya

What Do We Know

We know that there are lots of different origami folds, objects, and animals. and we can cut paper in a way that can help us with origami. We both have a good experience with doing types of origami and paper folding.

What Do We Learn

We learned mostly from each other lots of different origami skills that will allow us to teach others, and we gained some video making skills along the way. We also learned new ways to fold certain things we already knew.

What Do We Want to Know

We want to know if we can teach others about about different origami skills. Are question is, can I teach others different types of origami folds and 3D figures.

What Action Did We Take

We created a series of videos that teach others how to fold different types of 3-D paper figures, and how to fold certain origami folds.

How Will We Learn This Information

We will follow the steps on our Trello card and we will make a bunch of videos that will teach people how to make origami. We will also create a website that will hold our information.

What Questions Do We Still Have

We are still trying to find newer ways to fold certain things, and we are trying to come up with new things to fold as well. We are also trying to find how our product changes when the kind of paper varies in shape and texture.

Regan Reflection:

I enjoyed doing this passion time project because it is based on something I have experience with, and it was neat to learn new things about it. I hope my videos will teach other people how to do some of the things I demonstrated in them, and maybe give them a better way to do it if they already knew. I think that Shreya and I got along well throughout the whole project, and had no disagreements over anything. We had a bit of troubleI really had fun doing this, and learned a lot of new techniques.

Shreya Reflection:

I really liked this topic and I am glad I did it. I really like origami, and I learned a lot. I wish that we could have done more tutorial videos, but I guess that nine is enough. I liked the fact that we learned from each other so we did not have to look up how to make different origami figures. I think that me and Regan got along well together. I think that we do well on the videos. I also think that it was really cool making a website. It was kind of hard creating the procedure on our website because we had put all our steps on there. I really wish that we could have added more to our website because It only had two main things to see. really liked this passion time project.

Can I Write A Fantasy Story With Aspects Of Fantasy Writing That My Peers Enjoy?  Giuliana

What Do I Know?

I know that fantasy stories have elements that are fake.  Some examples of fiction writing are the Harry Potter books, the Percy Jackson books, and most Roald Dali books.  Most fantasy books have some sort of mystery or action in the plot.  Most of the fake elements are of the author's creation, like different worlds, spells, etc.  I also know from 2 passion time projects about writing that time management is key.

What Did I Learn?

I found out that my time management skills aren't great.  I struggled to progress much at school and ended up doing most of it at home.  I now know to not challenge myself to the extreme, but to the next level.  I also learned that creating suspense in writing pieces makes a great addition.  Another technique I used in my writing was making names and spells in Sundanese, a language spoken by very little people.  It brought a mysterious element to the story.

What Do I Want To Know?

I want to know what my peers like about fantasy stories.  I also wonder if it is easy to come up with a vocabulary for fantastical elements.  Another thing I will surely find out during this project is how to give different characters personality

What Action Did I Take?

I wrote a fiction story using elements of fiction stories my peers enjoy and make a video reading it.

How Will I Find Out?

By making a fictional story using aspects of fiction stories my peers enjoy and make a video reading it.  I will also use my knowledge of fiction stories and plots.

What Questions Do I Still Have?

I wonder if I could have modified my project to make it less complex for me.  Also, I wonder if any of my classmates would like my story.

Reflection

I don't know why I keep on doing projects way to ambitious for the time I have.  I always end up thinking about writing a long story.  I now know that before starting a project I need to think: Can I do this in 10 hours?  Other than that, this project did push my creativity to the extreme.  I loved coming up with spells and what they do.  It was also fun to choose names for different things and turn them into incomprehensible Sundanese words.  I want to give my story a more official ending over the summer, which will give me something to do for a few weeks!

What Will The Future Of Technology Look Like? By: Russell and Addy

What Do We KNOW?

We know that the future of tech will be very advanced. We also know that most of the tech in  years will be super thin and light. We also know that hover boards have the possibility to explode so we will see if they will make new and improved ones.

What Did We LEARN?

We learned about what the future of mobile phones would be like, which was very interesting because today lots of us rely on a little box of technology to talk to people. We also learned what the technology would be like in one year and five year. It was cool because we got to look at what might come our way in the future! We learned that ATMs, the things that people used to rely on to get money, would be replaced by phones! This project was so cool and we definatly learned  a lot!

What Do We WANT To Know?

We want to know What the future of mobile phones, computers, tablets, and what technology will be like in 1 year and 5 years. We also want to learn more about futuristic cars because we have seen them in movies but really want to know if they were to be! We are excited to learn and make a super cool website.

What ACTION Did We Take?

We made a website all about the future of technology and we researched tons of different topics and what they would be like in the future! We also took lots of time to make sure that our facts were solid and we worked really hard to find lots of information! We also make a hard effort to make our video on point! On our video we explained so much and we went in a lot of detail.

HOW Will We Learn The Information?

We will learn the information by researching looking at some pictures and asking some people what they think future tech will look like.

What QUESTIONS Do We Still Have?

Some of the questions that we still have are what will the world look like with all the new tech? What features be on the next Apple computer? Will Samsung become more of a big thing in the U.S.A? Will there be a tablet that will sell over 1,000,000 of them?

Refections:

Russell's Refection: My experience with round fours passion time project was one of the most fun projects I have very done. This project was a great learning experience because I got to look into the future. I learned that there is going to be a lot tech that will have disappeared. When we first started this project I thought it would take the entire 10 periods to finish. But here I am typing this refection with 3 more periods left in passion time. I think working with partner is much better than working by myself because we get more done and I seem more focused. All in all this was a great project and I am very happy of what we have done.
Addy's Refection:
This project was so much fun! I got to look at what the future would be like, and I learned so much about my partner and myself! I never knew that I like technology so much! It was so cool to research and see futuristic things that we didn’t put on our website! I also liked how amazing my partner was! He challenged me but also encouraged me! I also liked that I went back to a researching project because my last one was really long and didn’t include any researching! But this project still had challenges! It was so hard to find enough facts for the mobile phones page on our website! It was hard to find a phone that would interest others and give them some new facts that they had never seen before! Luckily, my partner helped me and it worked out! Something I want to do next time is try harder and find more facts! I really liked this project and hope to do something like this in the future!

What do we know?

They have changed the design and model. The logo has changed too like Lego. Nerf has changed from a sort ball to other sport balls.

What did we learn?

how toys improved over time and how the design, model, ect. And how other parts of toys have changed.

What do we want to know?

How has the design and model changed over time. What has changed about them.

What action did we take?

I made a google slide and made a video on what facts i had about how toys improved over time and got a lot done on the google slide.

How will we learn the information?

I will find it on google and study in books and ask for help from my fellow peers.

What questions do we still have?

How have other things have changed of toys changed over time and how they can make toys better in the future.
Reflection:
It was easy to get all the facts Because I had a lot of resources like my class mates and websites and stuff like that. It was hard to find what toy has changed over time and how it changed because some websites gave me a hard time by not giving me information. But in the end I think i did really well on making this and my video because I put a lot of effort  and information in the video. My favorite part was gathering all the information about new and old toys. My least favorite was the websites that just had picture and like 3 words.
