Why is there still homelessness when we have possible solutions?         By: Charlotte

What do we Know?

I know that there is only PADS during when it it cold out.  I also know that homeless people in the big cities beg for money, and a lot of times people ignore them.  I try to give them change as often as I can.  I know that in summer they sleep on the streets.  I have seen them lined up sleeping against a building later at night when I went to New York.  I also  two years ago went to a church in Chicago on Christmas day to help serve food to those who were homeless, and to be truthful it was really fun so I would love to do it again.

What do we Want to Know?

I want to know why not tons of people go out of there way to help them and make sure they have enough money to get a simple meal at night for dinner?  Why does nobody care?  Why doesn't many people try and help them?  I am sure that anyone can spare 1 penny.

How will I Learn the Information?

To learn information I will research and find information on different websites on how kids can help with this cause.  I might see at my church if I can donate any food to food pantries to help give to homeless people.

What did we Learn?

What Action did we take?

What Question do we still have?

I learned that there are too many ways to help a homeless person to NOT help them and pass them by.  These are civilized people we are talking about!  Just because they don't have an address and look a little different doesn't mean you should glare or laugh at them, they are probably going through a very tough time.  It doesn't help to laugh at them.
The action that I took is that I made a website to make people aware of what others might be going through.  My website showed that to help everyone is hard but we should at least try.  Think about it, would you like to be ignored and laughed at every day?  As you are sitting on the ground begging for a teeny bit of change to get you a simple and cheap meal from McDonald's?  Life would be very hard, as we have it easy.
Some questions that I still have are why can't homeless people get back on their feet when they fall down?  Do you think that they have a voice in their head saying that there is hope?  Or does it say that they will never sleep in a bed for the rest of their lives?  Are they always afraid?  Are they brave to sleep on the streets at night or do they have no choice?  Are they always afraid?
Reflection:
The most fun part of this passion time project was making the video of my website.  It was my favorite part because it was like I could say anything that I didn't tell on my website and I put it in my video.  I could say things that I meant to say on my website but forgot so then I still got the chance to put these ideas on my website.  The most difficult part was researching about what the cause was of homelessness.  It especially didn't just tell me what the cause was so I has to use background information and a bit of what I researched.  It came out to be that there were a ton of different things that caused this tragedy.  For example, you possibly weren't paying the rent and you got kicked out of your house.  Or you didn't have enough money to pay for where you lived.  Some advice I would give to a person that wanted to do a project like this would be is visit as many websites as you can, they honestly give you a lot of information.  They also give you a ton of ideas for your personal life like when you go downtown Chicago and see a homeless person and what you should do for them.  Overall this was a super fun project considering I was helping a homeless person in some way, and it made me feel like I was doing something super good for this world.

Hey Charlotte! Your website is amazing! I too wonder about how people become homeless and why we don't help them. Hopefully more people will see your site and get encouraged to help. Nice job!

Hi Charlotte!!
I think it was very nice of you to talk about the homeless. Your website is AMAZING and it made me feel very bad for the homeless! It made me want to do something for the homeless. I hope that soon there are more shelters for them and that it stops. Do you know why homelessness is happening and Why people don't go to the shelters?

There actually could be a lot of answers on why homelessness is happening. Like a person didn't want to pay their bill or the government kicked them out of their house. It is even possible that a person went to jail (and lived by themselves) and got out of jail and they couldn't pay for their house anymore. And for your second question I don't know why someone wouldn't want to go to a homeless shelter if they were homeless. They might be embarrassed. But anyway thanks for looking at my website! Bye!!!!

Dear Charlotte,
I really love how you listed websites where you can buy things to help the homeless. I also like how you took your time on this topic because a lot of people don't think about homeless people. Why do you think people don't help the homeless when they see them on the streets?

They might not help a homeless person on the streets because they might be too busy or something. But I personally don't think that is fair because these homeless people are real people and they just need a bit of change to help them get back on their feet. But thanks for looking at my website Piper! Bye!!!

Hi Charlotte,
I really loved your website! I really hope that's on there will be more homeless shelters around like in Chicago. I wonder why that there are so many homeless people? And I also wonder why the homeless people can't find the shelters?

You're right, there does seem to be a lot of homeless people. I don't know why there are so many. But I do know why homeless people can't find the shelters is because the majority of homeless people don't have a phone so that means they don't necessarily have a map to guide them all the way there. Also they might be a bit embarrassed to go and see all these people giving them food for free. But thanks for visiting my website1 Bye!!!

Dear Charlotte,
You are very thoughtful to care about the homeless. I also think that more people should help and not just pass by the homeless. I think that it is very good of you to even make a website for the homeless. Is there other ways to help the homeless than giving them money?

There are many ways to help them other than giving them money. For instance you could just wave at them or even smile, just to make them feel like they are worth something, Which they are! I remember that a few times before I just smile at them and THEY compliment ME instead of the other way around. Like a few times before they have told me I have a beautiful smile or something like that. Anyhoo thanks for visiting my website! Bye!!!

It is nice that someone cares about people who don't have enough money to live a normal life. Since you wrote that piece, do you help the homeless?

Yes I do since I always feel super bad when I walk past them and don't give them a little change from my pocket. But I of course don't have enough money to give change to every homeless person. And I don't have a job since I am only 10!

What if we had like an old school like a big one and re decorated and that's where they could stay you could make the beds and breakfasts until they get back on there feet. That would help.

Ilike how you put a number to call so when you see a ill person you can call the number .Although instead of little words add big words make your vocabulary hard .I like how you put everything together for example, the subheadings/titles they really go with it very good job
