The American colonists sent King George a letter saying that they wanted to break free from Britain and their acts because they were tired of how they were treated. They said “No taxation without representation!” because of Britain’s tax laws. The colonists tar and feathered tax collectors who came to take taxes from the colonists.
The first Continental Congress in the early American Revolution was to discuss the intolerable acts. They all were discussing what they should do at the meeting, and decided that they will boycott British goods. They asked King George to repeal the intolerable acts, and obviously said no.
The Second Continental Congress was a meeting with lots of people who represented their states. Each colony sent some people to the second Continental Congress meeting. This congress kind of became the government.
Before this, the British were marching to Lexington, the Americans sneak attacked the British. This was the battle of Lexington and Concord which was the start of the Revolutionary War.
By early 1776, the amount of patriots had grown substantially. Thomas Paine said that anyone who doesn’t want to be free from England was an idiot. The Declaration of Independence said why the colonies should be free from England and why they should want independence.
The Second Continental Congress had 3 tasks. They were to organize, train, and reunite the colonies for war, to decide a general or leader of the army (George Washington), and the third and hardest task was to decide whether to declare independence from England. There were 2-6 representatives coming from each state. The British do not know about the congress meeting going on. Most colonists agreed that the worst of the intolerable acts was the law that no ships could enter or leave the Boston Harbor for trading.

1. We decided that we would declare independence from England. We sent the Declaration of Independence to King George.
2. I think everyone should know about the three things the congress had to cover. This helps me understand how and why they did what they did.
3. I think more teachers should skype with other classrooms because it is a fun way to learn about it and is more understandable than reading from a textbook. People will be more interested than reading from a book or a website.
